Mobil partner sim

Free at last, impeccable timing

2020.10.21 09:22 shitstylewoogie Free at last, impeccable timing

After 15 months we are making the call to finally be free of latency and time outs. We got hughesnet in July 2019 when we moved to a rural area and were told Frontier DSL stopped a mile down the road so satellite was our only choice.
I have a big interest in networking so I knew we could get LTE to work. I was on metro for cell service and usually had 3/5 bars inside and full outside. I saw the Google Fi offer for 5 data Sim cards for devices with a 22 gigabyte cap on high speed. I also saw the offer that calyx has for unlimited data with no throttling.
I now have a Sprint mifi 8000 from the calyx institute and it has changed our lives. There is a Sprint tower in the small reservation town next to us. We signed up for their quarterly offer because who knows when T-mobile will shut down that tower or take it over.
I blew out my knee skateboarding two weeks after we got the mifi and being able to stream disney+ and Netflix has been a blessing. We get 3/5 bars in the center of out double wide and the hotspot covers the whole house pretty well. The hotspot has hit 100mbps which blew my expectations out of the water.
I kinda lost the point because I am high on pain killers for the knee and dabs for the soul. Paying the early cancelation will be a bitch but we paid I think 160 or something for 3 months of the calyx hotspot and having our internet bill be cut in more than half is amazing.
Oh yeah, I am going to be using the Google fi sims in an iPad 2, some old moto E phones, and probably hook one up to my lab server to have dual WAN. They work great so far, the moto E's will become emergency phones for the winter as my partner and her mom both have no cell coverage around here. Pretty neat. All in all I'm just happy to be living in the 21st century again and shedding the $110 monthly charge for internet that constantly failed me.
I hope all of you can whip up an LTE solution or T-mobile and starlink will choose you.

Hi, all Paralives fans!
I see that a lot of people are taking some inspiration from the Sims for what we could see in the base game or future updates. However, I think another great source of inspiration is BitLife. Here are some of their major free updates and how Paralives could implement them.
Just to clarify, BitLife is a text-based mobile game, so obviously there would be some more work for a computer game that needs to animate everything.

2020.10.18 20:07 cinti4050 Verizon phone won't activate on a Verizon-powered MVNO

Hello Verizon community! I don't usually post to online forums but I'm really confused by this one.
I had bought a new Samsung Galaxy A01 back in July for the Verizon network. I kept it on my parents' Verizon plan for 60 days until it was automatically unlocked by Verizon. After that time, I wanted to put it on my own phone plan, but I couldn't afford the Verizon price myself. I decided to try out US Mobile, which supports both Verizon and T-Mobile as an MVNO. I tried to activate it using their Verizon network SIM. It seemed to activate, and they ported my number over from Verizon. Once "active", though, my service didn't work. It showed I had very good service in my signal meter, but any call I tried to place would immediately disconnect, and all of my texts were forever held in "pending" state. In the end, we popped in the T-Mobile SIM, and it worked fine.
I still wanted to use Verizon's network since they had the best coverage. I have Charter Spectrum for my home internet, so I decided to try their Spectrum Mobile, also a Verizon MVNO. Online, I entered my IMEI, and it directly told me my phone wasn't compatible with their network. They couldn't tell me why, even though they sold the Galaxy A01 directly for new customers.
I decided to go for Tracfone next. Online, it said my phone was compatible when I entered my IMEI. I bought a SIM earlier today, and tried to put it on their Verizon network. It activated, and what do you know! I got the same exact issues as I had with US Mobile's Verizon network. I'm going to have to go back to their T-Mobile network now just to use my phone.
Does Verizon block it's own phones from being activated on it's MVNO partner networks? Or might it be a problem with my particular device? It's a relatively new device model, so I'm not able to find much information about others with similar problems, but I haven't seen anything about Verizon preventing me from activating my phone on one of its MVNOs.

2020.10.14 15:33 D1andOnlyOmen The saga continues.... Porting fun AT&T to Google Fi - Part 3

For anyone who happens to have followed my other threads on this topic, I've been trying to get our family plan switch since Friday.
Several calls with AT&T on this and they've assured me that there is no special PIN specifically for porting, the only info that should be getting verified/asked for to port are the account# and security PIN.....info that when attempting to enter in the Fi app I'm told the info doesn't match. I've lost track of how many times I've attempted this now.
On Monday, the "specialist" that is apparently now handling this indicated that they had "cleared" the request on their end and that I needed to wait 6hrs to attempt again, which I did....same result. "Info doesn't match"
What makes this story even MORE ludicrous now....... We have 4 lines on our plan, both with AT&T and thar were all moving to Google Fi. Last night, just for shits and giggles (and because my son was getting impatient, and he's in a different state), he wanted to try and see if things went any differently with his phone/line. Again, all part of the same account, all the same information to be entered. I tried to insist that it was like banging your head against a wall and that the result would be exactly the same.
His line ported without any trouble at all.
So now I'm like, 'well wait, WTF is the deal here, surely this was a fluke'. So I have my wife try her phone. Surely she'll run into the same issue I did.... we're even in the same house with the same shitty network reception, that's probably part of the issue and hers will fall.
Her line ports without any issues either.
Now I'm BEYOND livid, because I've been dealing with this since Friday, still haven't heard anything further from Fi support since Monday despite a couple of emails to them because part of their suggestion was to do a 3-way call to AT&T, which I had attired to do yesterday afternoon by calling AT&T who in turn called the Google Fi support # they had available...... only to be immediately disconnected after a messaged played saying they had reduced "COVID staffing hours".
So basically TWO of our lines have now SUCCESSFULLY ported over with ZERO issues when they attempted....... USING THE EXACT SAVE INFORMATION I'VE BEEN ENTERING THE ENTIRE TIME!!!
So I try this again myself I wipe the eSIM on my phone, disable the Fi app, clear the cache from there (these are steps they've had my try in troubleshooting) and give it another go.
I still can't get my number to port, can't use Fi on my phone (still have AT&T SIM in) and wife and son's lines are now gone from our AT&T plan as expected. When I attempted to contact Fi support again last night after these successful ports, they basically still couldn't tell me anything and because this issue has already been "escalated" with a "specialist" assigned to it, they more or less told me to wait to hear back from that individual. Which they said could still be 48-72 more hrs. Because apparently the "specialist" has to work with Google's partner T-Mobile to then work with AT&T to figure out what the issue is.
I now have a couple of sneaking suspicions myself about what the hangups could be, which are items NOT called it anywhere in steps to do this AND was assured by AT&T once at least that it didn't matter but......
1) the two lines that have successfully ported, neither happened to have "balances" on then, because of course they are Pixel phones purchased from the Google Store. My line has a balance even though I also have a Pixel 2XL myself fun the Google Store because we used a previous upgrade from my line for a Samsung that my wife had to get at one point which turned out to be a POS after about a year, just past warranty of course. I was assured during a call with AT&T previously on this particular topic that the balance didn't matter and weed just be billed it for that as part of our final bill which I fully expect. But that it shouldn't hold up the transfer. 4th line happens to be an iPhone with a small balance left also, haven't tried that port yet.
2) my line that I've been trying to port first is the primary (assumed this would likely be the proper order) but now wondering if there's some reason that the PRIMARY can't be ported while there are still other lines on the account.
Nether of these two suspicions on my part are mentioned by either party (Google Fi nor AT&T) as being "blocks" to a successful port attempt. But my money is on at least one of these items being part of the issue which NOBODY gives you any indication about.

2020.10.14 13:56 rngeez Apple Music not loading on iPhone with Circles.life eSim?

Just switched to circles.life eSim. Everything works as normal except Apple Music. Just doesn’t load. Once in a while it says I’m offline or airplane mode. I’ve enabled mobile data for Apple Music app. So it’s not that. I’m not offline either because I’m still using the internet as normal. Apple Music works on WiFi. My partner is using physical sim, same phone and plan and she has no problems. I’ve also tried restarting my phone. So I’m quite sure it’s due to the eSim.
Do you use circles eSim with your iPhone? Can you use Apple Music?
UPDATE
Nothing wrong with the eSim. Turns out I had an outdated iOS 14 beta. After updating to the latest Apple Music works again.

2020.10.14 10:38 theRedTieGuy Advice for a new resident

Hey all,
Recently moved to Norway (Drammen to be specific) and would like to ask some additional advice on a few things. Long story short, I'm living with my partner (not married, yet) and already have a residence permit - should be getting my residence card very soon.
Additionally, I'm also studying and working (money is being put into my partners account at this moment) but would like to get tips on other things.
Firstly, a bank account. I've seen many point to Bank Norwegian as well as DinBank but is there a specific one that would be recommended with good interest rate, additional benefits and one that I'd be easily able to open a savings account on top of my regular debit and credit account?
Mobile network - the most are pointing to Telenor but I don't want a contract at the moment. Just a sim card and a network that is good value for data. Maybe down the line I'd take out a contract but not at this point.
Health Care - I've seen a few conflicting articles and where I come from, Medical Aid was fairly straightforward. You chose one with the benefits that suit you and then you take out medical aid. How does it differ for a foreign resident?
I'm obviously also discussing all of this with my partner, as she is Norwegian, but just thought I'd ask on here as well to get as much information on this as possible.
On a side note, I still have some savings in my home country and do wish to transfer it to my Norwegian bank account once that is sorted. Which method would be the best way to do so?

Nem partners with Propine

Cryptocurrency NEM (XEM) announced that it will partner with securities service company Propine in a new chain "Symbol" scheduled to launch in December. This will give Symbol users access to all the services Propine offers, including security token management.

Services available in partnership with Propine

The partnership with Propine, which offers a variety of services such as custody and digital securities issuance, will allow Symbol users to issue, manage and customize security tokens on Symbol. Propine provides one-stop securities related services. For example, Propine's investor dashboard gives security token holders access to reporting and reporting capabilities.
In addition, users can use Propine's legally compliant custody services to manage and send tokens in a secure manner. In addition, the pre-trade check and post-trade processing in Symbol will be facilitated, and the entire trade will be carried out efficiently and safely.

What is Propine

Propine is a company that aims to meet the needs of corporate clients and build from the basics of digital securities. Experienced bankers, cybersecurity specialists, compliance attorneys, and blockchain engineers are the main players on the team. Propine offers a wide range of services tailored to the latest financial markets and regulatory trends, including custody, global digital securities issuance, wealth management, trade facilitation, and investment and regulatory reports.
Founded in 2018, Propine has been certified as a "Regulatory Sandbox" by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) since 2019. The regulatory sandbox is a deregulation measure set by the government to promote the development of innovative technologies and services. The current law is temporarily exempted from the target organizations, and experiments can be conducted in a safe environment under government supervision. Propine is the first independent digital asset custodian among MAS's regulatory sandbox organizations to be licensed for the Capital Market Service (CMS).
It is also the only digital asset custodian in the world that complies with ISO 27001, the international standard for information security management.

Comments from representatives of both companies

Dave Hodgeson, chief investment officer of NEM Group Ltd. (NGL) and executive director of NEM-related VC organization Nem Ventures, said of the alliance:
With the approaching launch of Symbol, we were looking for a partner who could provide an efficient asset management solution while complying with regulations. (Omitted) Propine has a large presence in the regulated environment in Singapore, and its scope is expanding to the world. Thanks to working with other Propine chains, NEM is already in good working relationships with stakeholders within other ecosystems and can move towards the prospect of promoting the digital asset ecosystem.

Propine founder and CEO Tuhina Singh commented:

Propine seeks to democratize access to capital markets by tokenizing products in the capital markets and the means by which they are accessed. The partnership with NEM is based on the same vision. Symbol was built for security tokens, and governance and regulatory requirements are paramount. Together with NEM, we want to provide our clients with innovative digital securities issuance and custody solutions to make the digital securities ecosystem more robust.

Nem partnership

In addition to Propine, NEM has partnered with various companies to launch Symbol.

Bimtrazer

Bimtrazer, a multinational company based in Chile and Argentina, has signed a MOU with a Qatar construction company to use Symbol in a construction project for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022. Was announced in February.
Bimtrazer is applying the Symbol blockchain to develop a platform called BIM (Building Infromation Modeling) that combines a management system in construction and artificial intelligence. Bimtrazer chose the Symbol blockchain because of its unique features, such as Symbol's aggregate transactions, as well as the high degree of scalability and security that Symbol offers as a hybrid blockchain.

FIX Network

In March, FIX Network announced that it would partner with NEM to provide a solution that protects the private keys and transactions of mobile device users on SIM cards. With this alliance, FIX Network has begun offering a security solution to prevent SIM swap attacks utilizing the Symbol blockchain.
At the core of FIX Network's solution is security policy. Security policies consist of a highly flexible and adjustable set of provisions. This allows users to set usage characteristics for digital assets and identities, such as how digital assets are stored, accessed, processed and restored. Assets can also be set to move only under certain circumstances, which enhances user security.

2020.10.13 03:03 taylorisnotacat An Essay You Didn't Ask For: The Battle for Control of MC in LITG

INTRO: The tension between player and writer in video games

There are two poles on the axis of character control in games. One end gives control to the writer, and the other gives control to the game player.
On one end is the scripted main character. This character is fully controlled by the writers; the player only has basic mechanical control over the character, like where they walk or who they have dialogue with or how good they are at solving puzzles. They're a character entirely unto themself, separate from the player. They have their own thoughts and preferences and motives, the player is just along for the ride. Examples of scripted characters include Final Fantasy MCs (like Lightning) and the central protagonists in film spin-offs like Harry Potter / Lord of the Rings / Star Wars video games.
On the opposite pole is the blank slate main character. This character is entirely controlled by the player, usually a true self-insert. The player gets to choose (or imagine) what this MC looks like, thinks, likes, how this MC behaves, and so on. There may be mechanical limitations in the game, but those constraints don't reflect on the makeup of the central character. Examples of blank slate characters include the player character from Skyrim/Elder Scrolls, sims in The Sims, and most MMO player characters.
It's possible and even relatively common, though, for a game to land somewhere in the middle of this spectrum rather than cleanly on one end or another. When done well, it can create magical results that walk the line between narrative depth and player immersion. But this can be a very difficult tight-rope to walk. When done ineffectively*,* it can create tension between the player and the writer that makes the game more frustrating and less immersive to play. I think we see that fight at work in LITG, and it's a recurring source of frustration for players who find themselves dissatisfied as they play through each season's events.

HOW THIS TENSION APPEARS IN LITG

LITG presents itself as though it is a true blank-slate narrative roleplaying game. You get to dictate many aspects of the main character including appearance, name, back story, preferences, and personality. MC says the exact words you choose for her to say, she goes where you tell her to go, she likes whoever you say she likes. The game's text even talks to you as though the events of the game are your, The Player's, summer experience. The game's language and mechanics give the player every reason to expect full control of a blank slate.
Yet, MC was designed to follow a specific story that the writers are trying to tell. In telling that narrative, the writers sometimes take back some control over MC to suit the story.
In Season 1, the narrative the writers create is strong, but they accomplish it by occasionally taking power over MC away from the player. They force MC to fight with Miles/Jasper even if the player doesn't mind him, they force her to be upset about Cherrygate, they force her to get upset with Levi/Mason about his comments in the Beach House, they force her to act nervous about her partner's ex. These are good plot points; they create narrative tension that's personal to MC and they're often revealing of the strengths or flaws in the characters around MC. However, forcing this behavior against the player's will conflicts with the expectation of control that the game has otherwise trained the player to expect. MC is treated as an extension of the player, so it can feel invasive and frustrating when the writers cross that boundary.
In Season 2, they gave MC a lot more pathways to follow and surrounded her with powerful personalities. They also cast her as a specific archetype. Characters all see MC as outgoing, extra, and high-maintenance, but also generally sweet and people-pleasing. This perception, and MC's tendency to play peacemaker rather than make feisty snap-backs at her antagonists, frustrated players who sought to roleplay a MC who was mellow and bookish or strong-willed and unapologetic (respectively). Making S2 MC "over the top" and "people-pleasing" by design is a smart narrative choice by the writers. Those traits make sense for a character destined to win audience favor on a reality show. They also explain why she was always involved in other characters' business even when it didn't involve her, why she so rarely (as y'all like to say) "had backbone," and why so many characters are charmed by MC. That's who S2's MC is; that's her canon personality. But, again, when the player is made to expect full autonomy over MC, those traits conflict with the expectation of control.
In Season 3, the writing gives the player near-complete control over MC, but in doing so they crippled their ability to tell a story. The player could consistently choose from a range of different personality paths and the writing never forced MC into conflicts that the player didn't endorse. Players had freedom to insert whatever character their hearts desired, but MC's personality became more inconsequential than ever. Characters never cared what MC did, the storyline never changed, and the stakes were non-existent. The players have all the control they want and the writers make no presumptions about who she is or how she might react to any issue. But all that freedom came at the cost of the writer's ability to create an engaging narrative. Without conflict, the characters never had any reason to showcase their different values or opinions; without consequences, none of the player's choices mattered for more than a few minutes. Players weren't fighting the writers for control of MC, but they were also pretty bored.
In the S3 Boat Party, we see some of the same tension from S1 coming back. Players feel deprived of control over MC. They have no say over the fight with MC's LI. MC can't attempt to communicate with that LI like an adult even if the player wants to because the game doesn't give her the option. MC can't call out her LI when they act shady. She goes on a romantic walk and professes budding feelings to someone else whether the player feels like it or not. These things make for emotionally engaing drama and create a far stronger overall plot than what we saw in S3, but they cause frustration and tension with the player's expectation of control.

ADDRESSING THE ISSUE OF TENSION

So... what could Fusebox possibly do about this recurring problem?
The first, most obvious answer is to make a more complicated and detailed game. Solve the tension by giving the players every option they (reasonably) want and tailor the story to evolve with those options. Program different possible personalities and reputations for the Islanders to remember and react to. Expand the possible range of dialogue across the board, inserting more options and covering a more broad range of possible reactions MC can have in each scenario. Program dramatic conflicts in a way that's responsive to MC's choices; build conflicts that set MC up to be in the center, but program contingency plans where NPCs step up to fan the flames or be the bad guy if MC doesn't engage, changing the dynamic of those conflicts from one playthrough to the next. Give MC the option to abandon (skip) drama and write in consequences when she does (or doesn't). Give her more opportunities to have one-on-one discussions, both with her LI and with antagonists, and change relationships accordingly. Make NPCs remember MC's choices from day one through the finale and use those variables for or against her.
But... it's not that easy. I just described a really complicated game. These things don't just develop themselves.
I think the original intent for LITG was for MC to be a truly blank slate character on journey of player wish-fulfillment and invigorating reality-show-esque conflict. I think, if they could, Fusebox would love to give us an immaculately-programmed, complicated game with everything I just described, and more. If I had to guess, I'd guess that the reason they haven't done this is because the resources and skills they have to develop this game are limited. They live and work within the limitations of reality; they're making constrained gameplay because it's what they're able to make. It's not romantic, but it is what it is.
The second answer, once you consider their limitations, is to continue trying new approaches and listening to consumer feedback while they gradually inch closer to the least-worst version of their current model. Hopefully, over time, their company and their resources grow. The game gets better and better by little degrees. It's not dramatic, but it's works well enough. In the best case scenario, one day Season 15 fuckin' flies because Season 2 crawled. In the worst case scenario, they totally misjudge their audience and it eventually loses so much of its following that they just abandon the project altogether. Realistically, it's probably neither; they'll get better little by little and spend the lifespan of LITG making a fun, passable free mobile game. It's not a glamorous solution, but it's safe and understandable. This is more or less the path I think they're on now.
Those aren't the only options, though. Creativity loves restriction. In other words, with open minds on their team, challenges like this can inspire innovative solutions that break new ground in otherwise-predictable game genres.
For example, what happens if Fusebox makes a season where they don't treat MC like a truly blank slate PC? The player gets to guide and experience her journey through Love Island, gets to make choices for her and develop a reputation with NPCs, but it's clear to the player from the jump that MC has her own given personality and mind within which the player must operate? What kind of changes would that mean in practice? How would the language in the game change? How few changes could be made to the current format to adjust the player's relationship with MC? If done well, it could hypothetically set the writers up with far more freedom to tell a compelling and high-stakes story, leave the player with far fewer feelings of frustration about the game's mechanics, and still allow the player to roleplay through wish-fulfillment scenarios fighting sassy NPC antagonists for the pixel hottie of MC's dreams. Depending on what they do exactly, thinking like this may even set the game apart in its genre.

CLOSING NOTES

A lot of credit for my thinking about this goes to the YouTube video essay The Shared Ownership of Commander Shepard. It's about this tension between player and writer in RPGs with a focus on analyzing the ways Bioware solved this problem in the Mass Effect trilogy.
https://youtu.be/bm0S4cn_rfw
It's pretty long (nearly a full hour), but if you find this stuff interesting and don't have anything else going on (or if you like Mass Effect), I recommend listening.

2020.10.12 01:58 bytelucas Pixel doesn't ring but answers?

My partner has been having phone issues with their Pixel so we tested it out by ringing from my iPhone, and the results creeped me out a bit. All happened with ringevibrate on full, DND off, strong signal.
Call 1 - went through fine
Call 2 - got a "call could not be connected" automated carrier message. This is a UK SIM provider (EE) but we're in spain right now, and the carrier message is in Spanish so it's coming from the local carrier which was unexpected. Nothing on the pixel. Pixel got an automatic text from EE a few seconds saying missed call from me. Overall a little odd but understandable, maybe weak signal or something.
Call 3 - got "a "User Busy" response on my iPhone. Again, absolutely no sign of life on the Pixel until the automated text a few seconds later. This is where things felt a bit weird for me - there's surely no way a lack of connection could cause an engaged line? Why is it engaged when the pixel has full strength but is unused? Thoughts appreciated.
Call 4 - it started ringing, but nothing showed up on the Pixel again. But this time, the call was *picked up*. This was the "what the fuck" moment. I was staring at a pixel on it's home screen totally uninteracted, whilst on my iphone somehow connected to it? The call was just silence and I hung up after 30 seconds. No missed call text on the Pixel this time.
By process of elimination, either it's my iphone/SIM (unlikely as others have had similar issues when trying to speak to them), the UK / Local (ES) carriers, the Pixel, or its SIM. I have no idea which. I'm a software engineer so not alien to this, went down the standard troubleshooting but got nowhere.
I don't know how mobile networks operate, so was hoping someome with knowledge might be able to shed some light on what glitches or issues might have led to these series of events.
Thanks :)

2020.10.11 07:14 kdramalover87 FMIL the abuser claims I brainwashed DF and my young BILs

Hi please no copying/ reposting my post no permission given.
On mobile please forgive bad format
Trigger warning: sexual assault, child abuse, substance abuse ect
TLDR: FMIL cuts us off due to me helping BIL deal with her abuse and gets FM to rain BS all over us. What should we do now?
Backstory history:
So my FMIL is the mother of 11 children, oldest in late thirties to youngest 14. The two oldest(OBIL and OSIL) are in another country have little to no contact with the American family, so we really only count my DF (Dear fiancé) who is 33 as oldest of the children here in the US. She was married against her will in her home country and escaped her country only to meet my DF’s bio dad, get pregnant with DF in the US and then be lured back to home country by abusive family members and end up giving birth in home country. Then she brought DF back to the US which led him to be an undocumented alien in this country because she never fixed his or her paper under Regan. This mean while all his other siblings here have US citizenship but DF.
FMIL had two other kids BIL1 (31) and BIL2(29) with DF’s dad. They were okay until DF’s dad was killed when he was six. She then got with the father of all her other kids SIL1(26), BIL3(25), SIL2(24) SIL3(23) and BIL4(16)and BIL5 (14). SD (step dad) who was a drug addict, and abuser of all kinds. She did not stand up to her spouse and allowed him to do and use DF and his blood siblings how he pleased as well as abuse her as well. It was a bad situation that cause all types of harm to DF the rest of the family.
When the last two kids were born, BIL4 and BIL5, SD was on the way out and was no help. None of the other siblings helped with the kids either. Basically FMIL and DF partnered to raise The kids. DF was basically Cinderella and Father to his two youngest brothers. His other siblings acted out either by going on the street, substance abuse, a teen pregnancy and dropping out of school. DF due to not having papers primary focus was maintaining the house and childcare (DF also cared for nephews 1 and 2) and worked under the table jobs to pay his way through community college, with no help from anyone. He never did the stuff his siblings did and was limited on his prospects until DACA came into play. Since then he has held down a successful job and at one point paid half the family’s rent and bills on his own. None the less, they still treated him badly.
FFW to 2020. We are engaged and due to be wed in 2021. DF and I have spent a lot of time with BIL4 and BIL5, as they are teens and they see DF as their dad. During lockdown in our area BIL4 stayed with us for six weeks until FMIL made him come home. BIL4 is bumping heads with FMIL and they are constantly fighting. There are many reasons for this such as they don’t speak the same language, she doesn’t have a connection to him and the fact that her filthy 1bed room apartment home is constantly filled with his grown siblings, his niece and nephews and other people. There is a lot of contention here and since DF is not there anymore BIL3 and SIL2 are trying to “reparent” BILs from what DF raised them. BIL4 is no angel and can get mouthy but if you know how deal with teen emo/angst he is okay. He is a honor student with goals of traveling and being a film maker. But according to BIL3 he is stupid and should aspire to work fast food all his life and SIL2 tells him to just shut his mouth and “deal with it”.
BIL4 after staying with us during lockdown and seeing that he has a better bond with DF and I than his mom wants to move in with us. I’m okay with this arrangement and so is DF, but we know FMIL would never agree. DF tries to talk to FMIL about it and says to her that if she needs a break from the drama BIL4 and BIL5 are always welcome to stay with us as long as they need to or as option we can have him permeant. FMIL lost her mind at this thinks we are trying to take her kids and won’t listen to DF saying to her that we are just trying to help. DF also explains to her that she is stressed and tired and if they are not getting along it because BIL4 is a teen and tbh he isn’t not acting nearly as bad as his other siblings at that age. She brushes it off and we leave it alone. We explain to BILs that we are here for them if needed but they just need to tough it out until they turn 18 and try to get along if they can. BIL5 is a very sharp kid and knows how to play the game by drawing the least amount of attention to himself as possible but BIL4 is the nail the rest of the family tried to nail.
Progressively the family has been targeting BIL4 like they used to target DF. From passive insults and names to full on hitting they let it all out on him. I was shocked as this seems crazy while DF expects this as his younger half siblings have been primed by SD since they were little that DF is trash and they can do or say anything they want to him and since BIL4 is very attached to DF they decided he is prefect to pour out all their crap. Quick comparison for you:
DF: gainfully full-time employed, has his own place and getting married. Good clean record and doing well. Not finically reliant on FMIL.
BIL1: married with three step daughters, moved back home due to job loss due to covid. But still trying to make up for a rocky past. At BIL4 age was gang member and on the street.
BIL2: struggles keeping a job and deals with substance abuse and depression. Got his GED and lives with FMIL.
BIL3: lost his lease and moved back home with FMIL. Heavy drinker, fast food worker and spitting image of SD. Called cops on FMIL due to her abuse at age 16. Says he is gonna parent BILs like SD did him as he turned out fine.
SIL1: former teen mom with three kids. Suffers from substance abuse and severe depression. In and out if FMiL house and her kids are left with FMIL as she can’t take care of them in her state right now. Moving in with SIL2.
SIL2: working at her college degree and lives outside the house. Smart when she is on her own but easily led down bad paths by her family.
SIL3: has a violent temper and has dated many older men to have her escape the realities of FMILs home. Has hit her mom when she was 16 and had been removed from the home by cops when she was high and tried to hit BIL4 with a folding chair. Has her dream job of working in a MJ dispensary.
All in all FMIL has a poor track record of successful children. As things escalate during this year DF starts getting calls from FMIL about how bad BIL4 is and to “give her side of the story”. Sometimes she tells us she hits BIL4 before he can even say so. BIL4 mental state is getting worse and worse until he spins into a depression. It’s getting ugly
FFW This week: I get texts from BIL4 saying he can’t stand it anymore. The house is crowded and the family is fighting with him. They took away his phone and gave him a new one without a SIM card so he can’t comunícate unless he is on wifi or using my spare laptop. He is spending his days in a hot dusty walk in closet with the door closed and then crawling into his bunk bed at night to sleep. He says he does this so they can’t blame him for anything but she keeps finding excuses. He says he can’t hold back anymore and has started to talk back. I know BIL4 is not an angel because he talks back but he is telling me she is been hitting him a lot. He wants to live with DF and I. DF and i explain that FMIL will never let him go willingly. We tell him to look into options like telling his teachers (distance learning), the police, getting a job so he isn’t in the house a lot or learning how to navigate the house by playing along all of which are not great but we understand he is stuck. We said to him that his older siblings dealt with FMIL in ways like hitting her back or acting bad, but he could try to be emancipated legally. We ended the convo saying to research ways other kids dealt with this situation but it’s all in him to make his choices. BIL4 says he wants to be emancipated and shows me the research, but in the mean time is going to tell his teacher.
Teacher reports this abuse to the cops. FMIL goes bananas when the cops show up at his door. Tells him he will never leave the house. The next day BIL4 texts me to say FMIL wants us to take him for a week as she needs a break. DF okays this and we go about our day when the plan is I will pick up DF from work then get BIL4.
Then the shitstorm hits. SIL2 takes BIL4 phone and reads his texts then shares the with the rest of the family. FMIL, SIL2 and BIL3 rain on DF via phone and texts that op broke the law by telling him things and they are gonna call the cops. That I brainwashed DF, how dare he do that to his poor mother and all of the like. DF ignores BIL3, but talks to SIL2 and she says he needs to “take control of op” or she will tell the cops DF molested her as a child. DF tells her good luck with that and go ahead as he will be waiting. She starts more shit talk then hangs up.
Then FMIL calls. She calls me every name in the book. Tells DF he has changed and is not the same. Berates DF because he wouldn’t co-sign for BIL1’s apartment. Then tells DF I only want BIL4 there to have sex with him (?!) or for DF and I to both have sex with us (?!). Says she won’t call the cops out of “respect” for DF. DF tells her to go ahead and call the cops. Says we have done nothing wrong and if she done nothing wrong she don’t have a thing to worry about. She refuses and says she hits BIL4 because he deserves it and DF and I are dead to her and she had other children so he is easily replaced. FMIL wants “her” money back, which DF ( DF controles her finances and did her bill pay but the money cane from DF’s tax returns where he claimed BILs as he did pay for over 51% of there expenses) sends to SIL2 then blocks her. We proceeded to block all their numbers and Facebooks. This morning they text through BIL5”s phone we owe them more money so we block the number. In response SIL2 shuts down his phone service. We got it back in less than an hour and actually are spending less. The thing is they shot themselves in the foot as none of them know any of their logins for any of FMILs bills or SIL2s FASFA. Play bitch game get bitch prizes :).
I’m feeling bad this happened but at the same time free. I don’t know what to do if anyone asks. DF is adamant that he is going to let FMIL cave and crawl back, but asked me what my conditions were for him and FMIL to come back into our lives. I know a full sincere apology is required, but what else should I request? That SIL2 and BIL3 give me an apology too? What do you all suggest. Ty for reading and sticking this out.

2020.10.08 21:03 HolubZnosA Passed CCNA 200-301 895/1000!

So, guys, this is it! After 3 months I reached the first checkpoint on the path to become Security professional.
Today, I passed CCNA 200-301 exam with score 895/100. Not so excellent, but not so bad either. I would like to share with you how I did it. Maybe it will bring some new ideas for some of you:-)
Resources and tools:
  1. David Bombal Udemy course - this was my core material for preparation. Many was already written here about this course. So I just want to say thank you, David. It was really helpful
  2. OCG books - the second main resource of information. Did not read it whole, used it after most of the videos by David when I wanted to go deeper in some topic.
  3. 31 Days Before your CCNA Exam: A Day-By-Day Review Guide for the CCNA 200-301 Certification Exam - after I completed Videos and OCGs I went through this book day by day for recapitulation. It briefly repeats all the main topics
  4. Keith Barker's youtube channel - CCNA playlist and especially his Sunday livestreams with Kahoot quizzes. Those quizzes are amazing. Thank you, Keith, for that!
  5. Anki - Did not use so much. I started too late before my exam. I should started with Anki from beginning.
  6. Packet tracer - I used half of the free labs from Neil Anderson (thank you, Neil!) and labs from David (they are included in Udemy course).
  7. GNS3 - for some more advanced exercising
  8. Cisco Modeling Lab on DevNet Sandbox - Another tool for advanced labs and I consider this as a great option. You can borrow some resources (VM) from Cisco, connect to it through VPN and play with IOSv images for free. The limitation is that you can reserve it just for 4 hours. But if 4 hours is not enough, you can save your lab and do a reservation for another 4 hours. Search "cisco cml" in your favourite google to get more info.
  9. Pearson practice exams - 4 practice tests. In my opinion quite similar to the real exam. Really useful
  10. Boson ExSim - 3 practice tests. Little bit more difficult than the real exam. Really useful too.
  11. My self-made timeline spreadsheet - This was really really useful for me. At the beginning, I checked all the topics in the video course, in OCGs, in the "31 day" book, all practice exams, labs and rest tools and I gave the specific date to every single thing I planned to use. So for every single day in the week from the start of my preparation till the exam day, I knew what I will do next. It gave me some picture if I'm going fast or slow and when I will be ready for the exam. In this schedule, I also included holidays, days with my family and "buffer days" (Saturdays for studying/practising for whatever I did not have time in the past week) and so on.
  12. and Reddit - of course, subreddits are also very valuable resources. Big thanks belong to you too!

And my background:
I get my Bachelors degree back in 2014 in Mobile Technologies. During my studies, I attended Cisco networking academy (3 semesters of CCNA and 1 semester of CCNP routing). After that I started working in retail as store operation manager (no IT). It took me 4 years to do the decision to return to IT field and I accepted new job as IT technician - my role was mainly to do support for end users - preparing new PCs, creating accounts (AD, email, etc.) and resetting users passwords (I never thought that average user forgets password at least once per month!). And finally, three months ago I accepted a new job offer - (security) System engineer at local Cisco gold partner. Started one month ago..

So this is my story. Hopefully it was at least a little bit readable (I know my English is simple, sorry for that) and maybe even helpful.
Best luck to all of you on every path you are undergoing and thank you!

2020.10.01 15:30 Mose_O Mint Mobile Customer Service Nightmare

Eleven days I've been trying to get a refund from Mint Mobile. Bought a phone (1st mistake) and two SIM cards from Mint Mobile. 2-3 day shipping was actually 9. Live chat rep basically shrugged when I contacted Mint after 5 days of not receiving my order.
Order received! Yay!. But the phone that MINT MOBILE SOLD TO ME is not compatible with the Mint Mobile Network. Aww! Well, that's weird.
Called customer service, who checked the IMEI and confirmed, yeah, Mint Mobile is selling phones that are not compatible with their own network. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," the guy says, "you'll receive a refund email within 24 hours." Great! Inconvenient and kinda fishy that Mint is selling phones that aren't compatible, but hey, we all make mistakes. Email received states, " Return Declined. The device is 100% compatible with Mint Mobile. Activate the Mint SIM for use with it."
Wait, what? But I can't activate the SIM card. It is literally impossible. And besides, the customer service rep confirmed that the phone is not compatible. How can it be declined?
Second call to customer service. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Let me submit a return request explaining the situation. You'll receive an email within 24 hours." No email.
Third call to customer service. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I will call you, personally, in 48 - 72 hours." No phone call after 72 hours.
Fourth call to customer service. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. We don't call people back, so I'll make sure you get an email within 24 hours." The email I received, "Return Declined. The buyer's remorse return period for refund is 7 days from receipt." Are you kidding me?
Fifth call to customer service. Spoke to a supervisor this time. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. This is a communication problem between the customer service reps and the returns department. I'm sending you a copy of my email to the returns department [an unreadable screen shot]. You'll receive an email within 24 hours." Can you guess which email I received? "Return Declined. The device is 100% compatible with Mint Mobile service. You would activate the SIM card here..."
Sixth call to customer service. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, etc." Learned that there is no way for customer service to actually talk to the returns department to explain the situation. They can only "communicate" by email. The supervisor has already told me that their communication skills are basically nonexistent. THIS rep promised to call me back within a few hours. But didn't the fourth rep say they don't call people back? Waiting for a return call.
Love, love, love the amount of time (eleven days) I have spent trying to get a simple refund for, wait for it, $134.00. Love, love love the anxiety that accompanies this, my very first, experience with Mint Mobile. If my partner hadn't been laid off, I might be less upset about Mint Mobile ripping me off for $134.00. (No I wouldn't). Not a good look, Minty.
I think there was a Bohemian author who used to write stories about this sort of thing. Started with a K...?

2020.10.01 15:24 razzadazza777 No mobile signal at new address. Trying to cancel contract without paying exit fees.

Location: England Hello,
I’ve been a customer with this mobile company for about 8 years or more now. I recently bought a sim only contract from them for me and my partner. I have never had any issue with their services before and for the first 2 months things were fine. Then I moved into my new flat. I moved in a month ago and found out that we have 0 signal (at most we get one tiny bar if we stick our hands out the window).
We have found out that it is not just inside the house but also outside the house. I would say a 2 minute walk radius around our house received a maximum of 1 bar. Not enough to use the internet but enough to make a terrible phone call.
Before anyway says that we should have inspected our flat thoroughly and checked these things first, we rented our place as soon as we could because we were homeless. Mobile signals didnt cross our minds and we didn’t think this would ever happen.
So now I am in talks with this company and they ran a diagnostic on my phone and confirmed that there is no signal in my area. I was told that I would get a phone call within 72 hours to discuss cancelling my contract. I haven’t received a phone call yet so today I went on live chat with them again. Now they are acting like they have no clue what I’m talking about. And now I am being told I would have to pay for the contract if I wanted to cancel it.
Side note: my brother is a law graduate and told me that under the consumer rights act, if the services I am paying for are not being provided I am entitled to a refund/termination without fees etc. But he didn’t go into detail. Anyone else know about this?

2020.09.30 20:09 gropacas Would a mobile Wi-Fi router (MiFi) work with any SIM Card that has endless plan data?

Moving properties soon (UK) and looking into setting up a super-fast new internet connection as both me and my partner need it for WFH.
I have heard great reviews about the EE Smart Wi-Fi , which is basically a wi-fi router which you use with a SIM Card provided by EE and you get an unlimited 4G hotspot. However, it has an 18month commitment for the time and since times are so crazy, I do not wish to commit for that long.
I looked into the VOXI Endless Data SIM card, which is pay-as-you go and was considering of buying one of those mobile wi-fi routers from amazon and setting those up together . VOXI customer services can not guarantee that this is will work as it is intended just for mobile use, but I do not see why it wouldn't work.
Has anyone tried it and if so is it worth it?
Other suggestions for HomeNetworking ideas are also welcome for broadband or Wi-Fi connections.

2020.09.20 04:15 wrecxy Jio - How to leave competitors suffocated and stuck

Jio - How to leave competitors suffocated and stuck

When companies like Airtel, Idea! & Vodafone were having a full-blown price war on voice calls, Jio was playing the quiet game.

When the aforementioned companies were charging low fees for calls, they gave lesser thought to mobile data.
Jio went all-in with new technologies and almost forced its competitors out of business. Jio understood that, in an already saturated market, the most growth for the market was: DATA.
There is never an equal amount of growth in various segments of businesses.
Jio did not need to invest in the costs of 3G’s and 2G’s as Jio was a late entry, through fiber optic cabling.
Through the addition of the new technology, Jio’s mobile data speed was at least 10-15 times faster than Jio’s competitors.
Jio entered the market providing free calls, free SMS, and free-roaming while charging surprisingly less for data as well.
Jio kept a very aggressive strategy from the start.
When there was a high cost of capital, expensive technology, strong government regulations, there was a very strong exit barrier created by Jio when it entered the telecom industry.

Through a strategy known as loss leading, Jio captured a large position of the market share while adding an entry barrier as well.
  • What happened was Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea!, when they needed to compete with Jio, it was tough for them to exit the current state of things and upgrade their technology.

But even if they did not come out, they had to sell their products at an even lower price than Jio, forming an entry barrier.

Thus, Jio’s competition could neither exit their current market nor enter a new market. They were suffocated and stuck.

It was a huge win for consumers of the telecom industry.
Through another strategy called the razor & blade pricing strategy, they dumped 4G sims from Jio for free with an aadhar card.

Jio charged zero cash for the sim while charging for the high use of a complementary product: Data.

Through continuous improvement, Jio is consistently sharping their axe to consistently suffer striking blows to their competitors.

Recently, Jio’s future prospects look bright. Google is acquiring a 7.7% stake in Jio. Additionally, 5G solutions are being put forth.

Jio has partnered up with Whatsapp and other social platforms and is looking to dominate India’s eCommerce market.

2020.09.17 14:08 drslow4 [PAID/RevShare] Veteran game dev looking for long term art partner

[PAID/RevShare] Veteran game developer looking for studio partner
Hey everyone! I've posted here a few times with varying success but wanted to give this another shot. I'm an experienced game developer currently working in the industry who has shipped titles on mobile, console (PS4, Xbox, Switch) and desktop both professionally and personally. Prior to that, I've worked in both the cryptocurrency and AVR spaces. I'm looking for the following in a partner:
- An equally experienced artist with the motivation, passion and dedication to ship indie titles - Strong experience with the Unity3D engine - Confidence in driving the creative direction of the project (characters, environment, animations, UI, vfx etc)
I understand that there are multiple verticals within the creative side of game dev, so it's not expected that you can create every asset for the game - just as long as you're confident that we can find the people with the appropriate skills. I've gone through the logistics of setting up my own studio and am happy to bring someone aboard. For the right person and to show I'm serious, I can offer payment to begin with but expect that you will grow into a hybrid/revshare model and become 50/50 partners as I won't be able to sustain payment until we secure funding or ship.
I have a few ideas floating in my head in terms of a project (some farther along than others) but am happy to kick off something new. One genre I’ve been thinking about is the sim/management genre but I’m not married to it. The aesthetics that I lean towards are low-poly, voxels or highly stylized with vibrant colors (think cyberpunk-esk) but I am ultimately open to any style. Can't wait to hear from you!

How much does this lifestyle cost you on average? Obviously it will vary by location Since the most asked question will be probably this one, I decided to break it down mathematically so, hopefully, it would be more transparent for everybody.
I don't think I could summarize with an average how much I spent per month, since the delta from month to month was absolutely unpredictable. But somehow everybody seems to love maths so... There you go.
A couple of things first: 1) different countries have different cost for food, accommodation, fuel and spare parts so to make an average, it s actually quite hard. For instance, a country like Peru cannot be compared in terms of costs with a country like the Netherlands in all terms. 2) when I travel, I am not on vacation. Just because I visit places and don't work, doesn't mean I can afford things like people that go on vacation for 2 weeks. People on holidays usually maintain the same level of comfort they have at home, or even improve it, righteously spoiling themselves, for the few days they have off in a year. I do the exact opposite. I spoil myself by not having to go to work.
Hence, there are 3 major costs in travelling on a motorcycles are: 1) fuel and bike parts (tyres, oil, filters, etc) 2) accommodation 3) food
These are also in order of importance. Fuel and bike maintenance guarantees the continuity of the journey so, those have the absolute priority. Where I sleep or what I eat, do not matter much. I will survive whatever I eat and wherever I sleep. It's incredible what our body can do end endure.
After a year of travelling I found out that, because my life and routine changed completely, I didn't need 3 meals a day anymore. Removing 1 meal a day allowed me to save a lot of money in the long run. It is a sacrifice but it is doable and It is super practical. I also found fasting good for the mind.
Sleeping arrangements could also affect greatly on your expenditures so, depending on countries and weather conditions, I usually opt to sleep in my tent or in hostels. Sometimes I do couchsurfing or stay at other motorcyclists houses, friends, friends of friends, etc. I ve also slept at complete strangers houses that i met on the road and that were reaching out simply to help. It s unbelievable how many people, just want to give you a hand. It s impossible to explain it. You have to see it yourself to believe it.
The cheap hostel in Peru would cost $5-6 a night, while in the USA $25.
In this sense, I estimated an average of 10 USD a night for accommodation for and average of 20 days per month. Again, It is a rough estimate. Let s say the other 10 days I sleep at people's houses, or in my tent or couchsurfing (so at no cost). Foodwise I usually drink a coffee (I carry my own little Italian coffee machine) in the am, with a piece of bread or instant oatmeal. Then I ride the whole day and reach my destination at 4-5 pm. I then eat. I mostly eat vegetarian but i occasionally have meat. I mostly shop at cheap supermarkets or local markets. Vegetables are cheap and nutritious and available all over the world. And so is pasta and rice. This whole thing costs me let s say 10 USD a day.
So for Food and Accommodation I roughly spend 500 USD. Then there's fuel. Fuel costs can vary from country to country but, for the sake of it, let s put fuel price at 1.2 USD a liter (4.5 USD a gallon). My bike in standard riding conditions does 20km per liter of fuel. In 5 years I rode 180000 km. That's 36000 a year. That s 3000 a month. So 3000/20 = 150 liters. 150 x 1.2 = 180 USD
The grand total is 500+180= 680USD per month Let s put 100 USD in for extras and whatever. It's 780 USD a month, if you will. But trust me when I say that I think I spend less than that.
There you go.

What is your coffee maker? Moka pot i'm guessing? I have a little Bialetti coffee machine, yes. :)
the below is a reply to the above
Yeah, that confirms you are really Italian. So is my SO, and when we are traveling, she will start complaining about the bad coffee by the time we get to the airport 😄 I am Italian...but I'm also passed that point of complaining about food all the time! I learned to enjoy my meal...regardless. :)
another coffee reply
Any tips for the Bialetti? A neighbor gave me one and I used it with Café Bustelo and it was crazy stong, albeit not too bad. Use less coffee ground! 😅

If you saved 40k, are you down to very little money now? I'm just thinking it's been 5 years, and I imagine you've had some unexpected expenses that would have your average end up being relatively accurate on aggregate, even if you typically spend less in a month. At $700 per month, you would be out of money. And even just the plane tickets from Australia to starting point and from somewhere to Greece where you say you were during Covid is a couple months of your budget I'd imagine. Yes, i had some unforeseen expenses. But luckily I also had a lot of help from people giving me shelter and food. In that sense I didn't spend all my money in food and accommodation but for the sake of average expenses I had to calculate it that way. In greece i found a job as volunteer in exchange of accommodation. That saved me 3 months of rent. Things like this cannot be included in average. I simply did the math to make people understand how much would it cost if life on the road would be without variables. There are too many to be considered.
the below is another reply to the original answer
Even if it's only 600 at month, you have been riding around for how long? It seems hard to think you saved so much and you are still using the money you saved. Is anyone helping you financially? I swear...i am using my money. 😅👍 It s hard to imagine how cheap it is to live frugally...if you renounce to most comforts we have in life. But I wouldn't mind now to have a benefactor(s) and sleep in a comfy bed or have a nice meal for a change.
Does it not worry you how you might have exhausted your financial resources by the time you want to return? What do you think life after this would be like? I hope I don't sound rude; just trying to understand how you are managing your life. What you are doing is absolutely amazing; I'd love to travel too but I am not rich either, and the thought of ending up penniless by the time I am 30 terrifies me. Hey, it's a completely plausible question and I am happy to answer that. Quitting your job, your financial stability, selling everything you have, saying goodbye to everybody and ride off...it is a "liberating" experience. In this sense, all the fears you mentioned are gone or somehow abandoned, the moment you decide to go for it! I have no fear of what lies in front of me because the mental step that I took years ago, required me to go beyond exactly this mental gap of "jumping into the unknown". Financially speaking, yeah, i don't like to have no money aside...but also, I know that I will do something about it (like finding a new stimulating gig) when the time comes. When I found myself locked in Greece during the pandemic, I couldn't really foresee what would have happened in the next months. Surely paying rent for months and being confined in an apartment wasn't ideal so I looked for volunteering jobs. Found one that allowed me to stay in an apartment for free in exchange of 3 hours of work per day. My point is that, adaptation is a key skill that I got to develop thanks to this experience on a motorcycle. I will take care of the my retirement plan, when time comes.
the below is a reply to the above
Thanks for the answer. That's a wonderful perspective. I guess your anxiety lessens once you realize how capable you are of adapting to different situations, which I'm sure you must have had to do a bunch of times since you started. You are amazing, thanks for the inspiration :) It's incredible how inclined we are to adapt, If we simply...TRY ! I never thought I would be able to do a lot of things I am doing today. I just gave it a try...failed...and tried again. I did learn, by simply trying. And I'm clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I feel like you cloud start vlogging your journeys, and form a Patreon to fund it. You've seen lots of fun things, and will see more. Yes. At the beginnings I started blogging but then I realized that it would have turned my trip into a job again...so i left the monetization of my journey aside. I just quit my job to travel and enjoy my life. Didn't want to think about money again! Patreon seem good but I haven't really found the guts to ask money to people...yet. When I ll be in need maybe i will!

In no way am I trying to attack you or diminish your extraordinary feat; just the fact that you had the courage to take the first step gives me crazy respect for you. BUT. There is so much privilege needed to get to where you have gotten. Not financial privilege mind you, you've worked your arse off to get here. But the fact that you could somehow travel to and stay in the US (for 3 years!) and then Australia without really thinking twice tells me your white skin and European passport has played a huge role in your mental safety net. As a coloured man with a shitty passport, just getting a visa to fly somewhere would be a huge fucking deal. Add to that the racism I'd face in plenty of places around the world, yeah not happening haha. You are absolutely right, my friend. I do understand that the fact that I am white and that I have an EU passport helped me A LOT. I am absolutely aware of this and I am not so naive to think that most of the times I got away with many things because of this. Coming from other countries or being a different colour could unfortunately still play a role, these days, when moving from country to country. Said this, I got denied my entrance to USA few times anyway. They are quite strict in that sense. But it always depends on the customs officer you find at the time of entry. Anyway. I get your point. Although, it's not a definite factor for your will to travel. You can still do it.

I love everything you're doing and have spent the last hour just reading your answers. I don't think you're answering anymore but... Do you have any plans of coming to India? I hope I get to meet you if you do come. Hey! Of course i have plans for India! Hopefully the covid will end soon! It all depends on that now

You can write blogs, and make YouTube videos to sustain your adventures! I am sure many of us would like to see your journey. I got few videos on youtube but i never really invested too much time (clearly) in that. Maybe I should
I always hear about people "giving up everything" and traveling the world. However, most people have worries about their economic status. Can you speak to yours at the point when you embarked? How much money had you saved, did you have any debt, what did you do with your belongings (Were there things you stored somewhere because you did want to sell or get rid of them? Did you pay for storage?), did you create a plan to generate additional income (e.g., plans for side jobs while traveling), and have you thought how to re-integrate into the "working world" when your traveling concludes (or are you hoping YouTube, etc. supports you)? Thanks! So, I started saving money when I moved to Australia. In 5 years I rounded up $40k more or less. I had no debts and, regardless the bank offering me "super interesting" offers about Credit Cards or Mortgages to buy properties, I didn't end up getting in debts with any banks. I also avoided kids and wives. I was renting an apartment and sharing it with a friend. When I decided to leave I sold all my furnitures on Gumtree (local Craigslist) and donated all my clothes to Salvation Army (Goodwill). I had no belongings left except what I piled on the bike when I left. And few months in I also realized that I didn't even need some stuff that I brought along. I did quit my job with no plans to work while travelling. I wanted, for the first time in my life, have a moment to simply ENJOY THE MOMENT without thinking about work and life as I knew it. I wanted to experience freedom, without the burden of thinking about my future constantly and what's going to happen next. I was raised with this mental construct too, so to break free from that was indeed liberating. I do not know how is going to be when this part of my life ends. If I have to go back to work, I will. But with a different heart and mind.
How did you manage it, physically? I find that my legs, back, bottom and body ache after just a few hours of riding (3+ hours), and this gets worse and worse over time (6+ hours, etc). Even on a comfortable touring motorcycle, I can’t imagine riding continuously for weeks or months at a time. Yes. Physically was challenging indeed. I had to replace my seat because the was no more foam inside. It was like sitting on a stool. Back and arse are the worst affected areas. I rode with a bit of a windscreen, so that helped to ease some of the neck pain. Luckily I had some physical conditioning to start with, but eventually I got out of shape. But, like everything in life, we eventually get used to it.
the below is a reply to the above
How many hours do you ride a day? It really depends. When I do ride, let's say that is a minimum of 1 and a half to 13 hours.
Could you maybe do a "what's in my bag"-post, show us the gear, tools and clothing you use and talk a bit about why you chose what? Ok.
Pannier 1 Camping Gear: - Sleeping bag - Air mattress - 3 people tent (I'm a tall guy) - $20 cooking pot set - propane gas tank - pocket knife - foldable chair - water bladder
Pannier 2 Electronics and knick knacks: - 11" laptop - 2 hard drives (backup!!!) - Chargers - portable tyre compressor - spare oil filter - spare front tube - cable ties - duct tape - bungee cords - first aid kit - spare bolts and screws
Tool bag - various moto tools
Duffle bag: - Clothes (various)
Tank Bag: - Drone - Toothbrush - Notepad - Small Lock - Pen
the below is a reply to the above
Did you have any problems with the drone? I remember you told me once on instagram that you planned on visiting Azerbaijan but couldn’t because Azerbaijan closed all the borders. Let me warn you that if you decide to come when borders reopen, know that drones are illegal here. Retarded law I know but you really cannot do anything about it because it is highly enforced. Probably you can give it up in customs and pick it up when you leave Nicaragua is the same. They don't allow drones in their country. I had to send it to costa rica via mail.
the below is another reply to the original answer
Traveling without a Leatherman. I can't believe it. It s listed. "Pocked knife" ;) You are right...i should have said Leatherman
the below is another reply to the original answer
What drone do you have? DJI mavic Air.
the below is another reply to the original answer
I have a CB600F I've fitted panniers to and can't fathom how you got all that camping stuff into one pannier, your packing skills must be sick I got some pretty roomy panniers too. Giant Loop is actually a company from Oregon, USA that makes these spectacular bags. Www.giantloopmoto.com I ve been riding with their products for years now.
Well nobody has asked it yet.. How did you self sustain yourself for so long? I understand everything is cheaper in South America but you also went through North America. In north America, specifically in USA, I had some friends that helped me finding accommodation along the way. I also wild camped a lot. Froze my arse up couple of nights too... But It's doable in Canada and USA since the land is so vast and you can always find a place to pitch your tent in safety.
the below is a reply to the above
See my trouble always begins when I pitch a tent I used to be the same, mate!
the below is another reply to the original answer
Maybe I'm just jaded but I don't know of anywhere you can just pitch a tent and sleep in the woods. Everywhere I've ever been camping there's an 80 dollar fee and you get a designated campground. Download iOverlander.
Hi, sorry if this is a personal question, but how often did you get laid? Do cultural differences play a role? Personal question, but interesting nonetheless. Thanks for asking "sensibly".
When travelling from town to town it's easy to meet people. The common Idea is that travellers get laid a lot. Unfortunately, in my case, I do not go out much when I travel, so my social encounters are limited to the location where I end up spending the night. I also typically stay not longer than a day or two, which is also usually not enough to create a connection with a potential partner (in my case). A lot of women are indeed attracted by the "solitary wolf" riding a motorcycle around the world, but they are not generally inclined to have a one night experience. Hence, the answer to your question, is that I rarely get laid. Cultural differences are what make mating interesting though. One trait that is standard for your part of the world, could be extremely exotic in another. Sometimes even the accent in which you speak a foreign language, could be a favourable factor.
But at the end, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
the below is a reply to the above
Dai ammettilo che l'accento italiano aiuta. Storia interessante la tua. Ti auguro il meglio! Sorry guys.. Italian things going on here ( shakes hands in the air ) Un pochino aiuta! ;) cheers!
How did you deal with language barriers? In all latin america the most spoken language is Spanish. I struggled at the beginning but after the first month, I had a decent basic level that allowed me to communicate quite easily with the locals. In Brazil was hard again, since portuguese was completely new for me. But again, after 1 month I got used to it and I was able to have basic conversations. If you give yourself enough time, you'll pick up any language.
In other situations I used my english or sometimes, like recently in Greece, Google Translate. Works beautifully!
Is it true that Italian and Spanish go hand in hand? I had some friends from Mexico who were confident that they could pick up Italian if they lived in Italy and were forced to use it every day for a month or 2. There are different and discordant opinions about this. I personally believe that Italian and Spanish are VEEEEERY similar. I think that any spanish speaker could easily pick on italian if spending some time in the country. And viceversa. But I also met people that thought otherwise. Not sure why. It wasn't too complex for me to pick up spanish. Definitely not perfect, but way better than a native english speaker.
What was the coolest thing you saw? Hard to pinpoint one single thing. Saw so many incredible things in 5 years! Nature always strucks me the most. Some places leave you speechless. Some encounters too. But the coolest experience for me was to swim with marine wildlife in Australia and Ecuador.
the below is a reply to the above
Hey I from Ecuador! Glad you enjoyed the wildlife. Can you elaborate on your experience there? Did you visit the Galapagos islands? Ecuador is hands down my favorite country...for its people, for nature, for food, roads...i mean, i had a fantastic time there. I also visited Galapagos and It was one of the highlights...of my life!! I mean...wow. simply incredible. If there was ever a place on earth close to Jurassic Park...
How does your license work? I mean if you have a drivers license in one country and you drive through multiple countries. What happens if you get pulled over? Having European or Australian driver license is sufficient to drive in most foreign countries. I do have an International Driver License, which is simply a piece of paper you can request from your local Automobile Club, that translates your license in many languages and which is helpful when finding an "scrutinous" policeman. At the borders they never check your driving license.
the below is a reply to the above
What about the motorbike's papers? Did you need a carnet de passage ? And could you tell us about the shipping of the bike, plane or boat, expense, level of organisation needed? For the americas, you don't need CdP. The shipping of bike could be done by cargo ship or plane. Both are not cheap but quite feasible. There are agencies that usually take care of the paperwork for you. A simple google search could help you pinpoint some good info. Unfortunately because rules and prices change from country to country, prices have to be requested to the company you choose. It is usually around $1500 + to ship a motorcycle indicatively...for both sea or air freight.
Can you speak on your base knowledge of bikes at the start of your travels? I'm interested in purchasing a bike to cruise around America in once (if) this pandemic blows over. Did you ever have to do any emergency DIY work when you couldnt make it to a garage for professuonal repairs? First of all: DO IT!! it's an amazing experience. I had basic/zero motorcycle mechanical skills when I started. I often used youtube as a source of "inspiration". Now I rather do the job myself than taking my bike into a shop. If you are going to cruise around the US, you wont need to carry much spares, since you can buy and have most parts shipped wherever you are. Somehow even breaking down, if happens, is a great part of the overall adventure.
[deleted] I am not sure. Yet. Definitely the more I go on with this adventure (and life) the more I become aware of myself and my surroundings. I am looking forward to have somehow a peaceful life in harmony with my surroundings. Stress has been out of my life for a while now and I want to keep it this way. Don't have a family. Never had kids or wives. I think it's going to stay this way...but you never know.
the below is a reply to the above
You've been doing this 5 years now. Do you feel the need to keep moving after you've been somewhere for a few days? How long is the longest you've been stationary since staring and did you ever feel like you wanted to get off the road for a longer time. Well...yes I always feel the need to see something more and explore. I get bored easily. But I have to say that during my Lockdown in Greece I was absolutely at peace. I really enjoyed my down time and i took advantage of it by taking care of many little things i left behind.
Did you tend to keep to yourself most of the time, or would you go out to meet people and socialize with the locals in the area? I am not really a "social beast" anymore. I socialize in hostels and when I look for food mostly...but I don't go out at night. That is quite personal, but I prefer a quiet night than pubs. This allowed me somehow to save a lot of money in the long run. I may have missed out in "social opportunities", but I prefer this way.
the below is a reply to the above
But you did meet a lot of people right? Im not social at all and it keeps me from traveling, im afraid that it would ruin the experience if I dont click with anyone haha. You gave me some confidence this will be a smaller problem than I think it is. I am an introvert and generally speaking, kind of a geek. So yeah...not really the outgoing kind of guy...but, when travelling alone, you don't have that social pressure anymore. You are by yourself and there's nothing to tell you what you have or not have to do. you are free. And yes...you will meet tons of people!!
Where do you stay at (camping, airbnb, rental, etc) ? Where you get money from? What do you usually carry with you? What is you most essential item? Have you made many friends? I mostly stay in Hostels (when is cheap enough). In latin America, you can pay from $5-$10 for a night in a shared dorm. When in remote areas, I camp. Best thing ever. Otherwise I use Couchsurfing. Occasionally I stay with friends and/or other bikers that got to know my story and want to help out. I live off my own savings. Most essential Item is "Common sense". AKA try not to do extremely stupid things. :)
the below is a reply to the above
How far do you usually have to plan ahead to find couchsurfing accommodations? The one thing that has deterred me from trying it out is that my motorcycle trips almost never stick to the schedule I have planned. Either due to unforeseen circumstances or maybe just deciding to ride around an area longer. Have you given people on CS a range of dates/times that you would arrive, or do you have to have your arrivals planned thoroughly? Yes, you usually have to investigate one or two weeks ahead to find accommodation with couchsurfing. Especially because I am a single guy. If i was a girl, i could find somewhere to sleep in few hours. Ahah. Oh well, women are less threatening i guess! ;) But yeah. You do need to check first and give a rough estimate of days of your permanence. Typically 2-3 days is the max. Then if both parties are ok, you can extend.
Have you ever done any housesitting for accommodation? I've done smaller trips like this, staying in hostels and campsites. I've heard of housesitting more recently and once I go again I'm thinking of trying it out. When looking at listings though it almost seems to good to be true. I just wonder if there is a catch to it I ve never done housesitting specifically. But I ve used HelpX, Workaway, woofing, etc to find occasional gigs that allowed me to get accommodation in return of small jobs. In Greece i stayed in a 9 apts complex on the beach by myself, in exchange of cleaning and painting! Great deal indeed
the below is another reply to the second answer
If you were a woman, there would also be far more risks to couch surfing alone. I'd definitely prefer planning over higher risk of sexual assault. Women have more chances of getting hosted because there are a lot of women hosts too. Or couples. They are definitely more willing to host a woman. But i get your point
the below is another reply to the original answer
Thanks, got another question. What is enough savings for a year in Latin America? well, it really depends of what kind of lifestyle you want. If you are ok sleeping in hostels every night and eating cheap market food...doesn't really take much! depending on which countries you want to visit too and how you want to move around! you can do it hitchhiking too if you want! and that won't cost you a thing! Just time!
How did you manage to not have your motorcycle stolen? Common sense. Mostly parked inside or in "safe areas" when possible. You can never be 100% sure but I never had issues of sort in my 5 years of travelling. Actually somebody stole my tool bag in Vancouver, Canada.
the below is a reply to the above
As a Canadian id like to say “sorry”. apologies accepted! ;)
the below is another reply to the original answer
As a Vancouverite, I'm not surprised. We have a large homeless population and they target anything they can find to steal and sell. It wasn't a homeless guy per se...was definitely a junkie. I went to Hastings street 3 days in a row to see if i could find my stuff...but it was gone. Bummer.
how were the first few months without the things that you were used to having? (sorry for the bad english, it isn't my main language) Your english is fine, mate! First month was HARD! 😅 I had never camped in my life and the longest moto trip I took by that time was only 350km. So yeah, in the beginnings the learning curve was steep! Basic things like "where to sleep at night every night" or "how to store food" were kind of abstract concepts for me. My first night camping was also my first night on the road. It was horrible. I paid so much money to camp in a so so campground, with noisy and drunk neighbors. It also rained at night. Haha An absolute fail! It got better and better with time. Also looking for food, packing and taking care of the bike. It was a full immersion in a brand new lifestyle for me. A great experience indeed
the below is a reply to the above
Paolo, your first night camping sounds ... well, it sounds really terrible! I'm curious how you would compare that first inexperienced night with say... an average night camping somewhere, anywhere, I don't know... say 2-4 years later after having done it for a while. In which ways did that first inexperienced night of camping come to differ from your more seasoned camping night to night later on? What kinds of routines did you end up falling into on those nights that you picked up from years of experience having done it? Well...let's just say that my love for camping escalated quickly as well. I started camping in the wild...not in confined facilities, and I simply loved it. Sitting quietly in front of the fire at night, after a long day riding, watching the stars appear slowly in the sky... The silence. I learned that camping in a busy campsite, with kids screaming and music playing is not the kind of camping I was looking for. Surely is great for families, because usually it is a safe environment for kids to play in, but for solo travellers looking for some quiet downtime...it is not. Better to hide somewhere behind a tree or some bushes and have a quiet night with some privacy. Free of charge.
How badly do you stink? Joking of course, good luck with your adventures. If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? ;)
Not to be nosey but what would qualify as enough money to "sustain yourself for a while"? And how long do you consider that "a while" to be? I had no Idea how much It would cost me to live, travel and not work, since I had never done it before. But I knew how much It costed me to live in Sydney for a year, without any extras (just food, accommodation, rent and bills). I assumed initially that my trip around the world would have lasted a maximum of 1 year and a half. Was I wrong! I pretty much had saved $40k in 5 years of work.
Thanks for doing this! How much do you talk to strangers? I can imagine either being very sociable, or taking the opportunity to be more solitary. Also, when you were traveling the world, how specifically did you keep in contact with friends and family back home? Was one service/approach more effective than another? I love to talk with Locals!! It's the best thing! I love to talk with older people especially. They can really give you a better perspective about the place and overall more interesting stories about their lives. Sometimes there's a language barrier but I try regardless. Hostels are also a great place to meet friends and people from all over the world. Aside from this, travelling solo on a motorcycle or bicycle naturally attracts curiosity, so I also met some good friends of mine at gas stations or random rest areas in the middle of nowhere.
To keep in touch with family and friends nowadays is quite easy. Mobile data networks are excellent worldwide and you can buy local sim cards to use local carriers data traffic. I use whatsapp and fb messenger the most.
What kind of income are you receiving to sustain this lifestyle long-term? Living off my life savings. I am self supported. Just worked for few years, saving as much as I could and then took off.
the below is a reply to the above
That sounds epic... Met a few guys like that, but never had the balls to do so myself. If you read this: how much of a mechanic are you? Do you do stuff yourself of do you bring your bike to the shop for maintenance/tires? At the beginning I wasn't really able to do much on my bike, except changing brake pads maybe. Then I tried and read forums online about troubleshooting...and of course youtube mate!! I tend to have a mechanic change my tyres, since it's a hell of a job and takes 4 minutes with proper machines. you can find tyre mechanics literally EVERYWHERE.
the below is another reply to the original answer
But, with the estimate you gave it would cost like 9k usd per year to maintain that lifestyle. You’ve been doing it for 5 years. I guess it’s hard for a lot of Americans to imagine saving up 45k+ in the few years that you worked. trust me, It's even harder for an italian to conceive to save up 40k in 5 years of work. Most italians will be able to save that amount maybe in 10-15 years. That's why I quit my job in italy and moved to Australia, where salaries are way higher. It's just sad that I had to leave my family, friends and country to be able to have a better life.

Why dont you try to register for welfare in Australia, and get the welfare cheques deposited into your account? I thought about it while riding around Australia. But I didn't find it fair. I mean, I wasn't in need of cash to sustain my living and there were probably people who seriously did. Plus I think you have to show up for interviews and stuff...so I preferred to let go.
OP, you're doing what I've dreamed of doing since I was about 21... I'm 32 now. I've saved a bit of money, and have no debt, and am still considering it... but feel as though it would be irresponsible at this point? shrugs I have a few questions, Ever considered staying at a spot for a few weeks and doing some manual labor for extra scratch to help you along in your travels? Ever had any problem with weird parasites in some of your rougher spots (scabies, bedbugs, intestinal issues) such as cheap hostels and whatnot? Since you don't go to bars or anything like that, what's the easiest way for you to meet new people? Ever felt any "I'm about to get robbed" vibes while on the road? Did you make rules like not traveling too late, etc.. I'm considering doing this very thing, since I make a good living but am already a minimalist and don't really need anything... I don't care about owning a house, or having nice clothes or any of that nonsense. I suppose it'd just be a drag to hit a dead end, have to return to the workforce after a few years of traveling and finding myself unable to secure a decent gig again. Anyways, if you've read this, thanks for your time and thanks for doing this AMA! Good luck man, and stay safe. Mate, when I left for my first trip around Australia, I was 34yo...so I completely understand where you are coming from. It take a bit of time to prepare and commit to this. I highly recommend it though. I stopped occasionally and did some jobs, yes, but were more like small temporary gigs...that paid maybe for a new set of tyres than anything. Still! Once I pressured washed mine trucks for a week in South Australia. Haha i was covered in mudd but I was happy. I also cleaned few apartments in greece in exchange of accommodation....things like that. Things will come your way if you look hard enough.
Didn't have any problems with bugs or parasites no. Got lucky on this one i guess. But i do believe I built my immune system pretty well.
The easiest way to meet people is in hostels. Being in your 30s you are already on the "old side" for a hostel, but you are still ok. ;) haha
Sometimes yes i felt i was going to get robbed or mugged...but never happened. I never travel with cameras and other expensive items with me. When i am on the bike, there s always the "surprise effect", meaning that people are more shocked to see somebody travelling solo than tempted to rob him right away.
How has the pandemic altered any future travel plans? The pandemic changed things quite drastically. A lot of other travellers I know got stuck somewhere or had to cancel their plans until further notice. Still not sure what to do in the long terms. Covid definitely made everything more unpredictable.
What are the cheapest and best places you would suggest a young person go visit? Also, just out of curiosity, when do you think you’ll stop? Well, there are plenty of great places to go explore on a tight budget. Latin America and South East Asia are generally speaking quite cheap. I would recommend Bolivia or Peru, in SA...and Cambodia in SEA. As a start...
I Hope I will be able to go on for few more years...but so far I am pretty content with what I've done already.
How do you overcomevia issues? I believe you referred to "Visa issues"?!
Well, having an Italian passport is quite handy since you get visa on arrival (valid for 1-3 months) as a tourist in most of the countries in the world. I had to request and pay for my Russian and Mongolian visa though. You can request that 1-2 weeks before entry in any available Embassy.

And what about other practical stuff like insurance for the motorcycle(is it allowed to be abroad for such a long time ?) ? Maybe obligatory x-yearly technical vehicle inspections (so far not needed in a lot of european countries but about to change so you were lucky I guess) ? Official site of residence (or what is it called, it is really hard to be 'homeless' in some countries, probably depends on what your current 'home country' is ) ? Ok so, insurance for motorcycle is something you need to get every time you enter a new country. Some insurance companies will insure foreign vehicles, but it isn't always the case. My bike is australian so after a certain point you need to inspect the vehicle to renew the registration. There is a process through which you can go to an associated mechanic in the country where you are and have the vehicle inspected and the results sent to the Australian motorvehicle authority. Then you can renew your papers online and have the new registration sent to you overseas. My official country of residence is still Australia, because it is where I want to go back to.

Thanks for the response. I can imagine it is not the most interesting thing to talk about but I am planning on doing something similar with a van + motorcycle (that fits in the van) combo so I am super interested in hearing about the (boring) administrative side of someone who is actually doing it :D. I had no idea something was possible like the remote inspection, I hope something similar exists in my country too. So far I only read you have to go to inspection asap when returning to your country if you were abroad. But I can imagine that is not going to fly if you plan on being away for a very long time though :P. Also: did you happen to keep a list of insurance companies that were willing to do it ? In that sense things change rapidly and new and better companies may arise. Better check with locals or use iOverlander app to find these kind of info.

2020.08.31 21:46 CatharGames We're selling the technology behind Seas of Fortune, interested?

Greetings all,

We've debated long and hard about bringing this up on reddit, but given our history with this subreddit, I can think of no better place as it has played a key role in our existence so far.

Back in 2017, we started developing a project for one of our clients, that would later become known as 'Seas of Fortune', a game that was shortlisted among the top 5 'Best Upcoming' indie games on IndieDB (known then as "The Whaler").

Proof:

Flashforward to 2020, it has become clear that the game won't get released after all... Our client appears to have no intent in pushing the title further along as there appears to be a stalemate going on with a third party. Luckily, through contractual engagement, we own all of the tech behind the game and have no legal arrangement with said 3rd party.

While we can't further the game's case on our own, we figured someone might have an interest. I must insist that there's nothing ambiguous about where we stand legally speaking, and we'll encourage proper due diligence with interested & serious parties (we'll provide any written engagement and volunteer information that goes even beyond the scope of our involvement so that a clear picture can be established prior to taking a dive).

Cathar Games is a studio that firmly believes in transparency, so we'll do everything in our power to ensure that a partnership only happens when all parties involved know exactly what they're getting into (we've met our share of sharks over the years and respect a healthy dose of skepticism).

Furthermore, and even though this particular proposal has no ties with our original client, out of transparency, we do intend on using some part of our share of the profit (not yours) to help them: They took huge risks to make this game happen, and fell into some of this industry's worst pitfalls along the way. As such, it would be a huge consolation if they got to see at least a part of their money back, given the strain they've been put through. We've tried reasoning with the 3rd party on their behalf, to no avail, so we feel our only path forward is to make something out of what we own.

Full disclosure on what we own / don't own:

OWN:
- General game shell (systems and sub-systems)
- Water / Ship physics (a third-party plugin has been leveraged in part, but we, as the developer, have the commercial license to exploit it)
- Player controller (custom)
- Camera controller (custom)
- Inventory System (part of our proprietary tool set, which we're willing to license for free as part of an arrangement)
- Crafting system (part of our proprietary tool set, which we're willing to license for free as part of an arrangement)

DON'T OWN:
- Capital to fuel the production (which is one of the key reasons why we're looking for a partner)
- Intellectual Property for 'Seas of Fortune' and 'The Whaler' - the game needs to go by another name, however we're not under any non-compete with the 3rd party.
- Characters / Ships - All of the key visuals need to be re-skinned. However, we are very likely to be able to mobilize at least part of the original team and have access to talented artists.
- Clear game direction - Our original client contributed a vision of where the title could go, and a keen understanding of the market appeal. While we have seasoned designers on staff, we'd need someone to direct our efforts, and will only entertain a partnership with someone with a proven interest in the genre.

Re-skinning aside, the game is in a state where a crowdfunding campaign may be achievable reasonably soon and on limited means. Prior to the fallout between our clients and the 3rd party, we were gearing up for such a campaign and market research indicated we were likely to succeed. We did a first test campaign which we quickly canceled to get a sense of where we were, and did so without properly gearing up.

Original campaign

Bear in mind the campaign was canceled barely a few days in with next to no preparation, mostly as an attempt to gauge interest. To this day, we still meet individuals that know us from this campaign and mention they intended on pledging for the game before the campaign got canceled. It also drew a lot of attention from potential investors and publishers, but unfortunately, our client had already signed a deal long before then.

This is a very uncommon proposal, but I'm hoping there may be a potential fit.
