All jokes aside, I really enjoy gaming, and it would be nice to have someone to game with! Without further ado, I'm Dayze! Not my real name, but it's what I go by online right now.
I really hope that I'll find people to to talk to here. I'm pretty squarely inside the Bible Belt and people who are familiar with Asexuality aren't that common, especially not when it comes to those willing to date someone like me who really has no interest in doing the horizontal tango with someone else. I'm a liberal and a feminist, and no I will not debate my political stance as I don't feel like I need to justify my beliefs to anyone.
I would love to meet someone that I can talk to, or play games with, or just chill with. Bonus points if you wanna send me pictures of your pets or cool rocks or flowers that you find!

2020.09.18 06:02 assessment_bot [ Fatal(4) ] [ 09/04/2020 ] Cirrus SR22, Chester/ AR

HISTORY OF FLIGHT
On September 4, 2020, about 2055 central daylight time, a Cirrus SR22 airplane, N733CD, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Chester, Arkansas. The private pilot and three passengers sustained fatal injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.
According to initial information, the accident pilot called his flight instructoairplane mechanic at the Muskogee-Davis Regional Airport (MKO), near Muskogee, Oklahoma, on September 4, 2020, about 1900, and advised the mechanic that he intended to fly to North Carolina. The mechanic advised the pilot to leave in the morning. Fueling records showed the accident airplane was refueled about 1949, with 36.41 gallons of 100 low lead aviation gasoline.
According to initial radar data, the airplane departed from MKO about 2027. The airplane flew eastward, had climbed up through 8,500 ft, and the pilot established radio communication with an air traffic controller. The pilot was asked by the controller where the flight was destined and the pilot said it was Pickens County Airport, near Pickens, South Carolina. The airplane was radar-identified, was issued depicted weather, and the controller suggested a 20 right turn for the weather. The airplane flew about 4 four miles on this heading and then reversed course. The flight was queried on its heading and the pilot replied that they were returning to MKO. The airplane was observed on a northwest heading by the controller who asked the pilot if he still intended to return to MKO, and advised the pilot that the airplane appeared to be on a heading of 340. The pilot replied that the airplane had been caught by the wind and he was correcting its course. However, the airplane turned northeast and began descending. The controller issued the flight a 20 left turn and no response was received in reference to that turn. The controller then advised the flight to turn left heading 270. The pilot acknowledged the 270 heading. The airplane continued to descend and turn right. The controller then advised that the flight appeared to be losing altitude rapidly and advised the pilot to level the airplane's wings, and fly southbound. The controller subsequently queried the flight multiple times, advised that radar contact was lost, and no response was received. An alert notice was issued, a search conducted, and the wreckage was found in wooded terrain on September 5, 2020.
PERSONNEL INFORMATION
The 31-year-old pilot reported that he had accumulated 11 hours of total flight time and 11 hours of flight in last six months before his last Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) examination for a third-class medical certificate dated November 29, 2017, issued with no limitations. The pilot was given a notice of disapproval after his initial attempt at a private pilot examination on October 27, 2019. The pilot's areas of deficiency were in preflight preparation, operation of systems, which included knowledge of constant speed propellers and knowledge of instruments associated with the pitot and vacuum systems. The pilot successfully passed the retesting for his private pilot certificate on November 3, 2019.
AIRCRAFT INFORMATION
According to its website, Cirrus Embark is a program designed exclusively for new owners of pre-owned Cirrus aircraft. The program includes complimentary training to address the specific needs of pilots and owners of pre-owned Cirrus aircraft. The program consists of a maximum of 3 full days of flight training. The pilot requested and was granted this training program on January 13, 2020. According to initial information, the pilot accumulated about 100 to 120 hours of total time at the time of his application. Direct owners or designated pilots of pre-owned Cirrus aircraft must enroll into Cirrus Embark within 30 days of aircraft delivery. Once enrolled into the program, the owner or designated pilot must complete the training within 60 days. According to Cirrus training records, the pilot completed all the flight training lessons. However, he did not complete all the online self-study lessons.
The accident airplane was a four-place, single engine, low-wing airplane. An FAA bill of sale document showed the airplane was sold to the accident pilot on January 4, 2020. According to copies of airplane logbook entries, an annual inspection was completed on June 2, 2020 and the airplane accumulated 2,053.8 hours of total time at the time of that inspection. The airplane was equipped with an ARNAV Systems, Inc ICDS (integrated cockpit display system) 2000 unit, which is a moving map multifunction display that also displays engine data.
The airplane was fitted with a Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS) advertised by the airplane manufacturer to recover the airplane and its occupants to the ground in the event of an in-flight emergency. The CAPS contains a parachute (within a deployment bag) located within a fiberglass CAPS enclosure compartment, a solid-propellant rocket contained within a launch tube to deploy the parachute, a pick-up collar assembly and attached Teflon-coated steel cable lanyard and incremental bridle, a rocket activation system that consisted of an activation T-handle, an activation cable, and a rocket igniter, and a harness assembly which attached the parachute to the fuselage.
WRECKAGE AND IMPACT INFORMATION
The airplane impacted wooded terrain about 22 miles north of the Fort Smith Regional Airport, Fort Smith, Arkansas. An FAA inspector examined and documented the wreckage site. A section of upper tree canopy exhibited signs consistent with blighting. The wreckage path exhibited a descending path, about 30 down, through the woods from the upper canopy to the engine and cabin impact site had a heading of about 220. The debris field, which started about the area of blighting and continued southwest beyond the cabin and engine impact area was consistent with this heading as well. Charring and discoloration consistent with a small ground fire was present on items in the impact area. The propeller was found separated from the engine, and a propeller blade was separated just outboard of its hub. The remaining two blades exhibited leading edge nicks and gouges. A portion of the CAPS parachute was strewn out in the debris field northeast of the impact area and the remainder of the CAPS parachute was observed in its deployment bag. The CAPS rocket was found in a ravine about 200 ft north of the impact site. Components of the wings, engine, empennage, and fuselage were identified at the accident site. The cockpit instrumentation was fragmented, and no useful information was able to be collected from them. However, non-volatile memory installed in the ICDS unit has been retained to see if it contains data in reference to the accident flight.
The airplane and engine were recovered and have been retained for further examination.

An extremely dangerous Laura closes in on the northwestern Gulf Coast

A powerful Hurricane Laura is rounding the corner on its final lap toward the coast this evening. Animated infrared imagery continues to depict a well-organized cyclone, with a large, clear eye surrounded by a dense ring of deep convection. As the outer brands of Laura reach the coast of extreme southeastern Texas and southern Louisiana, the convection situated to the northeast of the eye has become somewhat degraded, but that has not significantly altered the overall strength and structure of the cyclone. Water vapor imagery indicates that Laura continues to produce a robust and well-established outflow in all directions.
Intensity estimates derived from NOAA and U.S. Air Force Hurricane Hunter missions indicates little change in Laura's strength, with maximum one-minute sustained winds holding steady at 130 knots (150 miles per hour). There remains very little time for Laura to strengthen further, and with convection already weakening ahead of the cyclone's eye, it is likely that Laura has reached its peak intensity. Laura has begun to turn toward the north as it rounds the western periphery of the subtropical ridge which had been steering it toward the west-northwest over the past several days. Laura is likely to make landfall sometime between now and the next intermediate advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

Forecast Discussion

Last updated: Wednesday, 26 August 2020 - 10:00 PM CDT (03:00 UTC)

Laura will rapidly weaken overnight after making landfall

Up until now, Laura has enjoyed a favorable environment over the Gulf of Mexico with weak to moderate westerly shear (10 to 15 knots), very warm sea-surface temperatures (29 to 30°C) with abundant ocean heat content, and strong diffluence aloft. While mid-level moisture levels have remained unimpressive over the past several hours, vertical wind shear has not been strong enough to allow this dry mid-level air to penetrate Laura's eyewall, allowing it to continue to intensify through this evening.
Once Laura makes landfall later tonight, it will begin to weaken rapidly due as increased shear takes advantage of Laura's interaction with land. Laura is expected to drop from 130 knots (150 miles per hour) to 95 knots (110 miles per hour) within the span of the first twelve hours following landfall. By Thursday evening, Laura's wind speeds will have decreased to just 50 knots (60 miles per hour).
Through Friday, Laura is expected to gradually turn north-northeastward over northern Louisiana and Arkansas before making a hard east-northeastward turn on Friday morning as it become swept up in the mid-latitude westerlies. Laura will accelerate eastward through Saturday evening, when baroclinic forcing from a fast approaching frontal system will quickly transition the cyclone into a powerful extratropical system with tropical storm-force winds off the coast of Nova Scotia. Laura will eventually emerge over the northern Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Newfoundland on Monday evening.

There is no time left to prepare for this potentially catastrophic hurricane

The National Hurricane Center highlighted in a recent discussion that storm surge is not only expected to be life-threatening, but "unsurvivable" as it causes catastrophic damage from Sea Rim State Park in Texas to Intracoastal City, Louisiana. Depending on the timing of the tides, storm surge may cause sea-level rises of as much 15 to 20 feet in the hardest hit areas, causing significant amounts of water to rush inland from the Gulf of Mexico to a distance of almost 40 miles. This flooding may not recede for several days after Laura makes landfall and moves out of the region.
Hurricane-force winds are expected to begin along the coast between San Luis Pass, Texas and Intracoastal City, Louisiana later this evening. Catastrophic wind damage is expected as the eye of a strong Category 4 hurricane moves ashore late tonight or early Thursday morning. Hurricane-force windsd and gusts are expected to spread far inland on Thursday morning as Laura moves northward along the Texas-Louisiana border.
Widespread flash flooding is expected across a large area of eastern Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas ahead of and after landfall late tonight. In the hardest hit areas, total rainfall accumulations are expected to reach 5 to 10 inches, with some isolated areas seeing as much as 15 inches of rainfall. Heavy rainfall is expected to cause widespread life-threatening flash flooding and urban flooding, and is expected to cause minor to isolated moderate river flooding. Heavy rainfall will spread northward over the next day or so and then northeastward as Laura weakens and accelerates toward the Ohio and Tennessee valleys later in the week.
A few brief and isolated tornadoes are expected to develop over Lousiana, southeastern Texas, and southwestern Mississippi later this afternoon and tonight as the outer rain bands ahead of Laura make their way on shore, creating significant low-level shear due to frictional effects. The risk for tornadoes will spread northward into Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi on Thursday.

So first and foremost I will be the first to admit that in general there were a lot of things that was thought to happen that did not with temperatures. Spring was a lot colder than anticipated and while in general most areas saw somewhat equal distributions of rain when all things are considered, many systems targeted specific areas and some areas did miss out some.

II: Surface pattern

According to my cycle theory, the surface pattern point of change is mid January. Now that we are in June, it's much easier to see when the surface pattern started transforming. This year the surface pattern appears to have changed around January 22nd. We have alternating warm/cold pattern cycles, and we are currently in a neutral neither warm/cold bias surface pattern variation. The surface pattern length appears to be 27-29 days. By comparison, late last summer through mid January, we had a 39 day surface pattern.

Cycle points thru mid-October:

Surface 1: January 22nd - February 16th (Warmer) - 29 days
Surface 2: February 17th - March 12th (Cooler) - 27 days
Surface 3: March 13th - April 10th (Cooler) - 28 days
Surface 4: April 11th - May 8th (Warmer) - 28 days

*Surface 5: May 9th - June 6th (Neutral?) - 28 days
*Surface 6: June 7th - July 19th (Cooler?) - 28 days
*Surface 7: July 20th - August 16th (Warmer?) - 28 days
*Surface 8: August 17th - September 13th (Cooler?) - 28 days
*Surface 9: September 14th - October 11th (Cooler?) - 28 days
*Surface 10: October 12th - November 8th (Warmer?) - 28 days

2020.04.17 16:50 clemaneuverers Evidence for Advanced Culture in Distant Ages: a comprehensive compendium of the most credible archeological OOPARTS (Out Of Place ARTifacts) that have been found in the strata of our earth over the years, by both archeologists and layman alike, complete with details, illustrations and/or photos.

Wikipedia (lol) defines an OOPART as "an artifact of historical, archaeological, or paleontological interest found in an unusual context, which challenges conventional historical chronology by its presence in that context."... and then proceeds to both smear those who discover, defend and are curious about these items; and describe only the "safest", most easily explained and lamest of examples. Since Wikipedia both sucks and blows, below is how that page should read, by all rights of uncensored and unfiltered scientific interest and natural human curiousity. Most of these are taken from appendix B ("Evidence for Advanced Culture in Distant Ages") of the book Forbidden Archeology by Michael Cremo and Richard Thompson. There are many, many more examples of OOPARTS in that book (mostly in the form of eoliths, neoliths, paleoliths, fossilized remains, evidence of the use of fire and "industry"). What follows are some of the more anomalous and controversial finds:

2020.04.04 18:34 clemaneuverers "Sasquatch", "Wildmen", "Matlox", "Yeti" "Almas"; call them what you will; there are credible historical and contemporary reports and evidence, from around the world, that show mysterious Humanoid/Ape-like Mammals exist in the wilderness of the Earth's continents.

What follows is a massively abridged (by me) version of Chapter 10 of "Forbidden Archeology" by Michael Cremo and Richard L. Thompson. Reading it recently I found it enthralling, but I wished some of the things described were better illustrated (if at all!). So I spent some time searching online for the appropriate images. I then abridged and formatted the chapter for posting to Reddit, and inserted the pictures that I found into the text. I've included, at an appropriate part of the text, a link to more recent info relating to DNA discoveries ...
Living Ape-Men?
There are signs that humans may have coexisted with more apelike hominids throughout the Pleistocene. We suggest that humans and ape-man-like creatures continue to coexist. Over the past hundred or so years, researchers have accumulated substantial evidence that creatures resembling Neanderthals, Homo erectus, and the Australopithecines even now roam wilderness areas of the world.
Hard Evidence Is Hard To Find
In 1775, Carl Linnaeus, the founder of the modern system of biological classification, listed three existing human species: Homo sapiens, Homo troglodytes (cave man), and Homo ferus (wild man). Although Linnaeus knew the latter two species only from travellers’ reports and secondary sources, he included them in his Systema Naturae.
Professional scientists have (1) observed wild-men in natural surroundings, (2) observed live captured specimens, (3) observed dead specimens, and (4) collected physical evidence for wild-men, including hundreds of footprints. They have also interviewed non-scientist informants and investigated the vast amount of wildman lore contained in ancient literatures and traditions.
Many will say that all the wildman evidence mentioned above exists simply in reports, and that reports alone, even those given by scientists, are not sufficient to establish the existence of wild-men. However, in palaeoanthropology, as in many areas of science, evidence exists primarily in the form of reports.
During World War II almost the whole collection of Homo Erectus fossils was lost during the Japanese occupation of China. The Homo Erectus fossils now exist only in the form of old written reports, photographs, and casts. And no one doubts that the originals did in fact exist.
But what about reports by scientists who claim they saw and examined dead specimens of wildmen, the corpses of which were not preserved? Most scientists will grant no credibility at all to such reports. In one case the reports are believed, and in the other they are not. Why? We propose that reports about evidence conforming to the standard view of human evolution generally receive greater credibility than reports about nonconforming evidence. Thus deeply held beliefs, rather than purely objective standards, may become the determining factor in the acceptance and rejection of reports about controversial evidence.
Cryptozoology
...refers to the scientific investigation of species whose existence has been reported but not fully documented.
Is it really possible that there could be an unknown species of hominid on this planet? There remain vast unpopulated and little-travelled areas. In particular, the North-Western United States still has large regions of densely forested, mountainous terrain which, although mapped from the air, are rarely penetrated by humans on the ground. A surprising number of new species of animals are still being found each year—about 5,000 according to a conservative estimate. As might be suspected, the great majority of these, some 4,000, are insects.
Yet, The largest of the bears, the Kodiak bear, was unknown to science until 1899. The largest rhinoceros, Cotton’s white rhino, was discovered in 1900. The mountain gorilla, the largest member of the ape family, turned up in 1901. The largest lizard, the Komodo dragon, was first captured in 1912. In 1975, the largest known peccary, or wild hog, Catagonus wagneri, was discovered in Paraguay. This animal was previously known only by Pleistocene fossils. In 1976, a large and entirely new species of shark, 4.5 meters (almost 15 feet) long and weighing over 700 kilograms (over 1,500 pounds), was caught by a U.S. Navy ship in the ocean waters off Hawaii.
European Wild-men
Many art objects of the Greeks, Romans, Carthaginians, and Etruscans bear images of semi-human creatures resembling wild-men. During the Middle Ages, wild-men continued to be depicted in European art and architecture. A page from Queen Mary’s Psalter, composed in the fourteenth century, shows a very realistically depicted hairy wildman being attacked by a pack of dogs.
Wild-men were thought to live in caves and forests. They subsisted on berries and roots. They were not considered ordinary humans. They were said to be members of the animal kingdom.
Northwestern North America
In 1792, the Spanish botanist-naturalist José Mariano Moziño, in describing the Indians of Nootka Sound on Vancouver Island, Canada, stated:
“I do not know what to say about Matlox, inhabitant of the mountainous district, of whom all have an unbelievable terror. They imagine his body as very monstrous, all covered with stiff black bristles; a head similar to a human one, but with much greater, sharper and stronger fangs than those of the bear; extremely long arms; and toes and fingers armed with long curved claws. His shouts alone (they say) force those who hear them to the ground, and any unfortunate body he slaps is broken into a thousand pieces.”
Of the Spokane Indians of the Pacific Northwest, Elkanah Walker, a missionary who lived among them for 9 years, wrote in 1840:
“They believe in the existence of a race of giants which inhabit a certain mountain, off to the west of us. They inhabit its top. They hunt and do all their work in the night. They are men stealers. They come to people’s lodges in the night, when the people are asleep and take them and put them under their skins and take them to their place of abode without their even awakening. They say their track is about a foot and a half long. They frequently come in the night and steal their salmon from their nets and eat them raw. If the people are awake they always know when they are coming very near by the smell which is most intolerable”
Indians from the Columbia River region of the northwestern United States produced rock carvings that resembled the heads of apes. Anthropologist Grover Krantz showed photographs of the heads to a number of scientists and noted:
“Zoologists who did not know their source unanimously declared them to be representative of nonhuman, higher primates; those who knew the source insisted they must be something else!” Preconceptions seem to determine what scientists are prepared to see, and one thing most scientists are definitely not prepared to see is apelike creatures in the American Northwest.
On July 4, 1884, the Colonist, a newspaper published in Victoria, British Columbia, carried a story titled: “What is it? A strange creature captured above Yale. A British Columbian Gorilla.” Ned Austin, a railway engineer, spotted a human-like creature ahead of him on the tracks, blew the whistle, and stopped. The creature darted up the side of a hill, with several railway employees in pursuit. After capturing the animal, described as “half man and half beast”, the railway employees turned him over to Mr. George Tilbury. The Colonist reported: “‘Jacko,’ as the creature has been called by his capturers, is something of the gorilla type, standing about four feet seven inches in height and weighing 127 pounds. He has long, black, strong hair and resembles a human being with one exception, his entire body, excepting his hands (or paws) and feet is covered with glossy hair about one inch long. His forearm is much longer than a man’s forearm, and he possesses extraordinary strength”
Myra Shackley noted:
“The newspaper account of Jacko was subsequently confirmed by an old man, August Castle, who was a child in the town at the time. The fate of the captive is not known, although some said that he (accompanied by Mr. Tilbury) was shipped east by rail in a cage on the way to be exhibited in a sideshow, but died in transit”
Furthermore, there were additional reports of creatures like Jacko from the same region. Zoologist Ivan Sanderson said about Jacko in one of his collections of wildman evidence:
“one of his species had been reported from the same area by Mr. Alexander Caulfield Anderson, a well-known explorer and an executive of the Hudson’s Bay Company, who was doing a ‘survey’ of the newly opened territory and seeking a feasible trade route through it for his company. He reported just such hairy humanoids as having hurled rocks down upon him and his surveying party from more than one slope. That was in 1864.”
In 1967, in the Bluff Creek region of Northern California, Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin managed to shoot a short color film of a female Sasquatch.
They also made casts of her footprints. These prints, which were 14 inches long, were 5.5 inches wide at the ball and 4 inches wide at the heel
Several opinions have been expressed about the film. While some authorities have said it is an outright fake, others have said they think it provides good evidence in favor of the reality of the Sasquatch. Mixed opinions have also been put forward. A man could have sufficient height and suitable proportions to mimic the longitudinal dimensions of the Sasquatch. The shoulder breadth however would be difficult to achieve without giving an unnatural appearance to the arm swing and shoulder contours”
Anthropologist Myra Shackley of the University of Leicester observed that the majority view seems to be
“that the film could be a hoax, but if so an incredibly clever one.”
Dr. Jeff Meldrum compares the surface anatomy between the costumes in Beneath the Planet of the Apes and the Patterson-Gimlin film. He says there’s no comparison.
More Footprints
As far as Sasquatch footprints are concerned, independent witnesses have examined and reported hundreds of sets, and of these more than 100 have been preserved in photographs and casts.
Footprint comparison by Professor Meldrum
Napier stated:
“if any of them is real then as scientists we have a lot to explain. Among other things we shall have to re-write the story of human evolution. Critics, however, assert that all these footprints have been faked. Undoubtedly, some footprints have been faked, a fact the staunchest supporters of the Sasquatch will readily admit. But could every single one of them be a hoax?
Grover S. Krantz, an anthropologist at Washington State University, was initially skeptical of Sasquatch reports. In reconstructing the skeletal structure of the foot from a print, he noted that the ankle was positioned more forward than in a human foot. Taking into consideration the reported height and weight of an adult Sasquatch, Krantz, using his knowledge of physical anthropology, calculated just how far forward the ankle would have to be set. Returning to the prints, he found that the position of the ankle exactly matched his theoretical calculations.
“That’s when I decided the thing is real,”
said Krantz.
“There is no way a faker could have known how far forward to set that ankle. It took me a couple of months to work it out with the casts in hand, so you have to figure how much smarter a faker would’ve had to be”
Typically the prints are 14 to 18 inches long and 5 to 9 inches wide, giving a surface roughly 3 to 4 times larger than that of an average human foot. Hence the popular name Bigfoot. To make a Sasquatch footprint as deep as an average human footprint would require a weight 3 to 4 times greater than that of an average-sized man. In all cases, however, whether the prints are in snow, mud, dirt, or wet sand, the Sasquatch prints are much deeper than those made by a man walking right next to them in the same material. Thus a weight of more than 3 or 4 times that of a man is required to make the Sasquatch prints. A 200-pound man would have to be carrying at least 500 pounds to make a good print. There are reports of series of prints extending from three-quarters of a mile up to several miles, in deserted regions far away from the nearest roads. The stride length of a Sasquatch varies from 4 to 6 feet (the stride length of an average man is about 3 feet). Try walking a mile with at least 500 pounds on your back and taking strides 5 feet long.
In several cases, the Sasquatch footprints indicated the maker strode over large logs, which a human of normal size could not have gotten over without disturbing the fresh snow clearly visible on their tops. In some cases, the distance between the toes of the footprints varied from one print to the next in a single series of prints. This means that besides all the other problems facing a hoaxer, he would have had to incorporate moving parts into his artificial feet. Furthermore, in order to insure that some of his fake prints would be found, any hoaxer would probably have had to make more trails of footprints than were actually discovered—and that means a lot of work.
In conclusion, critics have failed to explain all the footprints as the work of hoaxers. It would seem, therefore, that the footprints argue strongly for the reality of the Sasquatch, as demonstrated by the following case.
On June 10, 1982, Paul Freeman, a U.S. Forest Service patrolman tracking elk in the Walla Walla district of Washington State, observed a hairy biped around 8 feet tall, standing about 60 yards from him. After 30 seconds, the large animal walked away. Krantz studied casts of the creature’s footprints and found dermal ridges, sweat pores, and other features in the proper places for large primate feet. Detailed skin impressions on the side walls of the prints indicated the presence of a flexible sole pad. Krantz solicited opinions from other scholars and fingerprint experts. Tatyana Gladkova, a specialist in dermatoglyphics from the USSR Institute of Anthropology, said:
“I see dermal ridges of the arch type distally directed. I see sweat pores. If it’s a fake, it’s a brilliant fake, on the level of counterfeiting, and by someone well versed in dermatoglyphics”
Douglas M. Monsoor, a master police fingerprint examiner from Lakewood, Colorado, stated:
“I see the presence of ridge structure in these casts, which, in my examination, appears consistent with that type of ridge structure you would find in a human. Under magnification, they evidence all the minute characteristics similar to human dermal ridges. They appear to be casts of impressions of a primate foot—of a creature different from any of which I am aware”
The majority of the Sasquatch reports come from the northwestern United States and British Columbia. However, there are also numerous reports from the eastern parts of the United States and Canada. For example there were, as of 1977, 11 reports from New York, more than 24 reports from Pennsylvania, 19 reports from Ohio, 18 from Michigan, 9 from Tennessee, more than 36 from New Jersey, 19 from Arkansas, 23 from Illinois, 30 from Texas, and 104 from Florida, 74 reports from Montana, 32 from Idaho, 176 from Oregon, 281 from Washington, 225 from British Columbia, and 343 from California.
“One is forced to conclude that a man-like life-form of gigantic proportions is living at the present time in the wild areas of the northwestern United States and British Columbia.”
Central And South America
In Buckskin Joe, Edward Jonathan Hoyt reported an encounter he had in 1898 in Honduras. A large, apelike creature, about 5 feet tall, crawled over the end of his bunk. Hoyt killed the animal, which resembled a human
From southern Mexico’s tropical forests come accounts of beings called the Sisimite. Wendell Skousen, a geologist, said the people of Cubulco in Baja Verapaz reported: “There live in the mountains very big, wild men, completely clothed in short, thick, brown, hairy fur, with no necks, small eyes, long arms and huge hands. They leave footprints twice the length of a man’s.” “it looked like a bear, but it wasn’t from the description that they gave—no conspicuous ears, no ‘snout’” Similar creatures are reported in Guatemala, where, it has been said, they kidnap women and children
From the eastern slopes of the Andes in Ecuador come reports of the Shiru, a small fur-covered hominidlike creature, about 4 to 5 feet tall (Sanderson 1961, p. 166). In Brazil, people tell of the large apelike Mapinguary, which leaves giant humanlike footprints and is said to kill cattle.
Yeti: Wildmen of The Himalayas
Myra Shackley observed that Yeti are found in Nepalese and Tibetan religious paintings depicting hierarchies of living beings.
“Here, bears, apes, and langurs are depicted separate from the wildman, suggesting there is no confusion (at least in the minds of the artists) between these forms.”
After reviewing the available reports, Ivan Sanderson compiled the following composite description of the Yeti:
“Somewhat larger than man-sized and much more sturdy, with short legs and long arms; clothed in long rather shaggy fur or hair, same length all over and not differentiated. Naked face and other parts jet black; bull-neck and small conical head with heavy browridges; fanged canine teeth; can drop hands to ground and stand on knuckles like gorilla. Heel very wide and foot almost square and very large, second toe longer and larger than first, and both these separated and semi-opposed to the remaining three which are very small and webbed.”
In November of 1951, Eric Shipton, while reconnoitering the approaches to Mt. Everest, found footprints on the Menlung glacier, near the border between Tibet and Nepal, at an elevation of 18,000 feet. Shipton followed the trail for a mile. Already well known as a mountaineer, Shipton could not easily be accused of publicity-seeking. A close-up photograph of one of the prints has proved convincing to many. In 1956, Professor E. S. Williams photographed some prints on the Biafo glacier in the Karakoram mountains. Napier, who thought it likely that they were the superimposed prints of the front and rear paws of a bear, said
“It is impossible to state categorically that Williams’s prints are those of a bear and not of a Yeti, but in the spirit of Bishop of Ockham it seems more reasonable to explain a phenomenon in terms of the known rather than the unknown.”
Of course, in avoiding the relatively straightforward explanation that a peculiar set of tracks in snow was made by an unknown animal, one is forced to come up with all kinds of speculative hypotheses about the superimposition of prints of various animals and humans, or the transformation of such prints by melting, in a manner not clearly understood. And this would also appear to be a violation of a key aspect of Ockham’s razor—namely, that the simplest of competing theories is preferable to the more complex.
Some Buddhist monasteries claim to have physical remains of the Yeti. One category of such relics is Yeti scalps, but the ones studied by Western scientists are thought to have been made from the skins of known animals. In 1960, Sir Edmund Hillary mounted an expedition to collect and evaluate evidence for the Yeti and sent a Yeti scalp from the Khumjung monastery to the West for testing. The results indicated that the scalp had been manufactured from the skin of the serow, a goatlike Himalayan antelope. But some disagreed with this analysis. Shackley said they
“pointed out that hairs from the scalp look distinctly monkey-like, and that it contains parasitic mites of a species different from that recovered from the serow.”
In 1978, Lord Hunt, who headed the British Mt. Everest expedition of 1953, saw Yeti tracks and heard the high-pitched cry the Yeti is said to make. Lord Hunt, described by Shackley as “a vigorous champion of the Yeti,” had come upon similar tracks in 1953. In both 1953 and 1978, the tracks were found at altitudes of 15,000 to 20,000 feet, too high for the either the black or red bears of the Himalayas.
It is interesting to note that science has recognized the existence of many fossil species on the strength of their footprints alone. The hypotheses and reconstructions of cryptozoology (regarding animals actually alive) are no more daring, questionable, fantastic, or illegitimate than those upon which paleontology has based its reconstructions of the fauna of past ages.
The Almas of Central Asia
There is another wildman, the Almas, which seems smaller and more human. A drawing of an Almas is found in a nineteenth-century Mongol compendium of medicines derived from various plants and animals. The text next to the picture reads:
“The wildman lives in the mountains, his origins close to that of the bear, his body resembles that of man, and he has enormous strength. His meat may be eaten to treat mental diseases and his gall cures jaundice” Reports of the Almas are concentrated in an area extending from Mongolia in the north, south through the Pamirs, and then westward into the Caucasus region. Similar reports come from Siberia and the far northeast parts of the Russian republic.
Early in the fifteenth century, Hans Schiltenberger wrote in his book of the Tien Shan mountain range in Mongolia: “The inhabitants say that beyond the mountains is the beginning of a wasteland which lies at the edge of the earth. No one can survive there because the desert is populated by so many snakes and tigers. In the mountains themselves live wild people, who have nothing in common with other human beings. A pelt covers the entire body of these creatures. Only the hands and face are free of hair. They run around in the hills like animals and eat foliage and grass and whatever else they can find. The lord of the territory made Egidi a present of a couple of forest people, a man and a woman. They had been caught in the wilderness, together with three untamed horses the size of asses and all sorts of other animals which are not found in German lands and which I cannot therefore put a name to”
Myra Shackley found Schiltenberger’s account especially credible for two reasons:
“First, Schiltenberger reports that he saw the creatures with his own eyes. Secondly, he refers to Przewalski horses, which were only rediscovered by Nicholai Przewalski in 1881. Przewalski himself saw ‘wildmen’ in Mongolia in 1871.”
Shackley noted:
“The book contains thousands of illustrations of various classes of animals, but not one single mythological animal such as are known from similar medieval European books. All the creatures are living and observable today.”
The Pamir mountains, lying in a remote region where the borders of Tadzhikistan, China, Kashmir, and Afghanistan meet, have been the scene of many Almas sightings. In 1925, Mikhail Stephanovitch Topilski, a major-general in the Soviet army, led his unit in an assault on an anti-Soviet guerilla force hiding in a cave in the Pamirs. One of the surviving guerillas said that while in the cave he and his comrades were attacked by several apelike creatures. The body of one such creature was found.
“It was covered with hair all over. But I knew there were no apes in the Pamirs. Also, the body itself looked very much like that of a man. We tried pulling the hair, to see if it was just a hide used for disguise, but found that it was the creature’s own natural hair. We turned the body over several times on its back and its front, and measured it. Our doctor made a long and thorough inspection of the body, and it was clear that it was not a human being. The body belonged to a male creature 165–170 cm [about 5½ feet] tall, elderly or even old, judging by the greyish colour of the hair in several places. The chest was covered with brownish hair and the belly with greyish hair. The hair was longer but sparser on the chest and close-cropped and thick on the belly. In general the hair was very thick, without any underfur. There was least hair on the buttocks, from which fact our doctor deduced that the creature sat like a human being. There was most hair on the hips. The knees were completely bare of hair and had callous growths on them. The whole foot including the sole was quite hairless and was covered by hard brown skin. The hair got thinner near the hand, and the palms had none at all but only callous skin.”
“The colour of the face was dark, and the creature had neither beard nor moustache. The temples were bald and the back of the head was covered by thick, matted hair. The dead creature lay with its eyes open and its teeth bared. The eyes were dark and the teeth were large and even and shaped like human teeth. The forehead was slanting and the eyebrows were very powerful. The protruding jawbones made the face resemble the Mongol type of face. The nose was flat, with a deeply sunk bridge. The ears were hairless and looked a little more pointed than a human being’s with a longer lobe. The lower jaw was very massive. The creature had a very powerful chest and well developed muscles. The arms were of normal length, the hands were slightly wider and the feet much wider and shorter than man’s.”
According to testimony from villagers of Tkhina, on the Mokvi River, a female Almas was captured there during the nineteenth century, in the forests of Mt. Zaadan. For three years, she was kept imprisoned, but then became domesticated and was allowed to live in a house. She was called Zana. (artists impression) “Her skin was a greyish-black colour, covered with reddish hair, longer on her head than elsewhere. She was capable of inarticulate cries but never developed a language. She had a large face with big cheek bones, muzzle-like prognathous jaw and large eyebrows, big white teeth and a ‘fierce expression.’” Eventually Zana, through sexual relations with a villager, had children. Some of Zana’s grandchildren were seen by Boris Porshnev in 1964. “The grandchildren, Chalikoua and Taia, had darkish skin of rather negroid appearance, with very prominent chewing muscles and extra strong jaws.”
Was 19th Century apewoman a yeti? 6ft 6in Russian serf who could outrun a horse was 'not human', according to DNA tests
In 1899, K. A. Satunin, a Russian zoologist, spotted a female Biaban-guli in the Talysh hills of the southern Caucasus. He stated that the creature had “fully human movements” (Shackley 1983, p. 109). The fact that Satunin was a well-known zoologist makes his report particularly significant.
Wildmen of China
“Chinese historical documents, and many city and town annals, contain abundant records of Wildman, which are given various names,”
states Zhou Guoxing of the Beijing Museum of Natural History. Two thousand years ago, the poet-statesman Qu Yuan made many references to Shangui (mountain ogres) in his verses. Li Yanshow, a historian who lived during the T’Ang Dynasty (a.d. 618–907), stated that the forests of Hubei province sheltered a band of wildmen. Wildmen also appeared in the writings of Li Shizhen, a pharmacologist of the Ming Dynasty (a.d. 1368–1644). In the fifty-first volume of his massive work on medical ingredients, he described several species of humanoid creatures, including one named Fei-fei.
Li wrote:
“‘Feifei,’ which are called ‘manbear,’ are also found in the mountainous areas in west Shu and Chu division, where people skin them and eat their palms. The You mountain of Sha county, Fujian province, sees the same ones, standing about one zhang (equal to 3.1 meters [ just over 10 feet]) in height and smiling to the people they come across, and are called ‘shandaren’ (men as big as mountains), ‘wildmen,’ or ‘shanxiao’”.
In the eighteenth century, the Chinese poet Yuan Mei made reference to strange creatures inhabiting the wild regions of Shanxi province, calling them “monkeylike, yet not monkeylike”
According to Zhou:
“Even today, in the area of Fang County, Hubei Province, there are still legends about ‘maoren’ (hairy men) or ‘wildmen.’ A local chronicle, about 200 years old, says that ‘the Fang mountain lying 40 li (2 li equals one kilometer [.62 mile]) south to the county town is precipitous and full of holes, where live many maoren, about one zhang high and hair-coated. They often come down to eat human beings and chickens and dogs, and seize those who fight with them.’A lantern on which there is an ornament of a ‘maoren’ figure was unearthed in this area during an archaeological excavation. It has been dated at 2,000 years”
In 1940, Wang Zelin, a graduate of the biology department of Northwestern University in Chicago, was able to directly see a wildman shortly after it was shot to death by hunters. Wang was driving from Baoji, in Shanxi Province, to Tianshui, in Gansu Province, when he heard gunfire ahead of him. He got out of the car to satisfy his curiosity and saw a corpse. It was a female creature, six and a half feet tall and covered with a coat of thick greyish-red hair about one and a quarter inches long. The hair on its face was shorter. The cheek bones were prominent, and the lips jutted out. The hair on the head was about one foot long. According to Wang, the creature looked like a reconstruction of the Chinese Homo erectus.
Ten years later, another scientist, Fun Jinquan, a geologist, saw some living wildmen. Zhou Guoxing stated: “With the help of local guides, he watched, at a safe distance, two local Wildmen in the mountain forest near Baoji County, Shanxi Province, in the spring of 1950. They were mother and son, the smaller one being 1.6 meters in height. Both looked human”
In 1961, workers building a road through the heavily forested Xishuang Banna region of Yunnan province in southernmost China reported killing a humanlike female primate. The creature was 1.2–1.3 meters (about 4 feet) tall and covered with hair. It walked upright, and according to the eyewitness reports, its hands, ears, and breasts were like those of a female human. The Chinese Academy of Sciences sent a team to investigate, but they were not able to obtain any physical evidence. Some suggested that the workers had come upon a gibbon. But Zhou Guoxing stated:
“The present author recently visited a newsman who took part in that investigation. He stated that the animal which had been killed was not a gibbon, but an unknown animal of human shape. It is worth noting that, over the past 2 years or so, some people in the western border areas of Yunnan Province say that the above-mentioned kind of Wildman still move about, and that another one has since been killed”
Consider the case of Pang Gensheng, a local commune leader, who was confronted in the forest by a wildman. Pang, who stood face to face with the creature, said;
“He was about seven feet tall, with shoulders wider than a man’s, a sloping forehead, deep-set eyes and a bulbous nose with slightly upturned nostrils. He had sunken cheeks, ears like a man’s but bigger, and round eyes, also bigger than a man’s. His jaw jutted out and he had protruding lips. His front teeth were as broad as a horse’s. His eyes were black. His hair was dark brown, more than a foot long and hung loosely over his shoulders. His whole face, except for the nose and ears, was covered with short hairs. His arms hung down to below his knees. He had big hands with fingers about six inches long and thumbs only slightly separated from the fingers. He didn’t have a tail and the hair on his body was short. He had thick thighs, shorter than the lower part of his leg. He walked upright with his legs apart. His feet were each about 12 inches long and half that broad—broader in front and narrow behind, with splayed toes”

In 1969, John McKinnon, who journeyed to Borneo to observe orangutans, came across some humanlike footprints. McKinnon asked his Malay boatman what made them.
“Without a moment’s hesitation he replied ‘Batutut,’” wrote McKinnon, “but when I asked him to describe the beast he said it was not an animal but a type of ghost. Batutut, he told me, is about four feet tall, walks upright like a man and has a long black mane. Like other spirits of the forest the creature is very shy of light and fire”
Later, in Malaya, McKinnon saw some casts of footprints even bigger than those he had seen in Borneo, but he recognized them as definitely having been made by the same kind of creature. The Malayans called it Orangpendek (short fellow). McKinnon stated:
“Again natives spoke of a creature with long hair, who walks upright like a man. Drawings and even photographs of similar footprints found in Sumatra are attributed to the Sedapa or Umang, a small, shy, long-haired, bipedal being living deep in the forest” (Green 1978, pp. 134 –135). According to Ivan Sanderson, these footprints differ from those of the anthropoid apes inhabiting the Indonesian forests (the gibbon, siamang, and orangutan). They are also distinct from those of the sun bear (Sanderson 1961, p. 219).
In a journal article about wildmen published in 1918, Westenek recorded a report from a Mr. Oostingh, who lived in Sumatra. Once while proceeding through the forest, he came upon a man sitting on a log and facing away from him. Oostingh stated:
“I saw that he had short hair, cut short, I thought; and I suddenly realised that his neck was oddly leathery and extremely filthy. ‘That chap’s got a very dirty and wrinkled neck!’ I said to myself. His body was as large as a medium-sized native’s and he had thick square shoulders, not sloping at all. . . . he seemed to be quite as tall as I (about 5 feet 9 inches). Then I saw that it was not a man.” “It was not an orang-utan,” declared Oostingh. “I had seen one of these large apes a short time before.”
What was the creature if not an orangutan? Oostingh could not say for sure:
“It was more like a monstrously large siamang, but a siamang has long hair, and there was no doubt that it had short hair”
Mainstream Science and Wildman Reports
Despite all the evidence we have presented, most recognized authorities in anthropology and zoology decline to discuss the existence of wildmen. If they mention wildmen at all, they rarely present the really strong evidence for their existence, focusing instead on the reports least likely to challenge their disbelief.
Hand and foot bones of wildmen, and even a head, have been collected. Competent persons report having examined bodies of wildmen. And there are also a number of accounts of capture. That none of this physical evidence has made its way into museums and other scientific institutions may be taken as a failure of the process for gathering and preserving evidence. The operation of what we could call a knowledge filter tends to keep evidence tinged with disrepute outside official channels.
However, some scientists with solid reputations, such as Krantz, Napier, Shackley, Porshnev, and others, have found in the available evidence enough reason to conclude that wildmen do in fact exist, or, at least, that the question of their existence is worthy of serious study.
Myra Shackley wrote to our researcher Steve Bernath on December 4, 1984:
“As you know, this whole question is highly topical, and there has been an awful lot of correspondence and publication flying around on the scene. Opinions vary, but I guess that the commonest would be that there is indeed sufficient evidence to suggest at least the possibility of the existence of various unclassified manlike creatures, but that in the present state of our knowledge it is impossible to comment on their significance in any more detail. The position is further complicated by misquotes, hoaxing, and lunatic fringe activities, but a surprising number of hardcore anthropologists seem to be of the opinion that the matter is very worthwhile investigating.”

Forbidden Knowledge [Mega Thread + pictures + illustrations)
from TimeTravelResearchCenter Website

- Did time travelers visit the earth’s past? The evidence is overwhelming.- Who left the modern shoe prints found in stone more than 200 million years before man appeared and dinosaurs roamed the planet?- Who left the metallic spheres found in South Africa... obviously made by man... but more than two billion years before man evolved on the earth?- Did modern humans meet their untimely death to have their remains preserved in the earth, hundreds of thousands of years before possible? From where, or perhaps "when," were advanced civilizations visiting our past thousand’s and million’s of years before man appeared on the earth? Explore the Possibilities and the fascinating scientific evidence. These pages contain just the surface of the forbidden knowledge being hidden and protected today... knowledge that suggests a strong possibility that our views of human origins are either incorrect... or maybe that time travelers have already visited Earth’s past.

The False Front
Temporal anomalies are scattered throughout the world -- things that could not possibly belong to the time period in which they were found. Evidence exists of human civilization, artifacts and technology out of time that are abundant, well researched and well documented.
This forbidden knowledge is being protected and hidden from all of us.
Today’s popular view of modern human presence in the distant past is a false front. The real truth is out there showing proof of advanced technology and people millions of years before humanity is stated to have evolved on the planet.
Why has the scientific establishment and government suppressed and ignored these remarkable finds? Where did they come from? How did they get there? Why are we suppressing this suggestive proof of modern time travelers visiting our past?
As you study the forbidden knowledge on these pages a whole new truth will emerge and become apparent to you... the truth that the earth was visited or inhabited by modern humans using advanced technology long before the appearance of the first humans as the history books write today.

https://i.redd.it/3rfb2lg1end41.gif
The chart above presents the accepted scientific view of evolution on this planet... It shows human beings appearing on the earth about 1.6 million years ago, and human civilization just 10,000 years ago.
However, using accepted scientific methods numerous finds show conclusive proof of modern humans and advanced civilizations present or visiting the earth’s past long before this timeline represents as possible. The proof is shocking! Scientific proof of visitors, possibly time travelers, long before civilized man evolved on the planet.
From where, or perhaps "when," were advanced civilizations visiting our past thousands or millions of years before man appeared on the earth?
As we move further back in time through the different eras, you will see evidence continue to grow... evidence showing proof of modern humans and technology in the distant past.

Cenozoic Era Proof
The Cenozoic Era is last of the five major eras of geologic time, beginning about 65 million years ago and extending through the present.
It follows the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic era and is subdivided into the Tertiary period and the Quaternary period. Features of Tertiary times are considered in articles under the names of the various shorter time periods (epochs) making up the Tertiary period; in order, from earliest to latest, these are the Paleocene, Eocene, Oligocene, Miocene, and Pliocene.
The accepted scientific view of evolution in the Cenozoic Era shows human beings appearing on the earth about 1.6 million years ago, and human civilization just 10,000 years ago.
Yet the scientific finds presented below present a very shocking and different story.
Pleistocene Epoch Finds
- Copper Coin from Illinois, over 200,000 years old This rendition of a coin-like object, from a well boring near Lawn Ridge, Illinois, was found at a depth of about 114 feet below the surface.
According to the information supplied by the Illinois State Geological Survey, the deposits containing the coin are between 200,000 and 400,000 years old...

https://preview.redd.it/o6c5k1h4end41.jpg?width=198&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ff1989fa96f4673de7438a9abc31ab73106286a
Who left this coin hundreds of thousands of years before civilized man evolved?

- Modern Human Skeleton from Tanzania, over 800,000 years old In 1913 Professor Hans Reck, of Berlin University, conducted investigations at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, then German East Africa.
During his stay at Olduvai Gorge, Reck found a modern human skeleton that remains a source of mystery and controversy to this day.

https://preview.redd.it/4ty23xp7end41.jpg?width=257&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=26b8110fdfe57f17e27b20609c865c434130bda9
This modern skull is from a fully human skeleton found that year. The human skeletal remains, including this complete skull, were cemented in the rock and had to be chipped with hammers and chisels. It was found in the upper end of a rock bed dated at more than 1,000,000 years old.
How did this modern human find his way 1,000,000 years into the past?

- Willendorf Venus Statue, over 30,000 years old
The Willendorf Venus, from Europe, dated at 30,000 years old. Who created or left this artifact nearly 20,000 years before human civilization appeared?
https://preview.redd.it/pn8au88aend41.jpg?width=114&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99293de8300168a789bffcf2a0f54ded40afcd95

- Modern Human Skull in Buenos Aires, over 1,000,000 years old In 1896, workers excavating a dry dock in Buenos Aires found a modern human skull. The Pre-Ensenadan stratum in which the Buenos Aires skull was found is a least 1.0 - 1.5 million years old.

https://preview.redd.it/y77vw86eend41.jpg?width=284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=313b61de4743264977b1c879ee8f5c1a26247b5d
Even at 1 million years the presence of a fully modern human skull anywhere in the world is highly anomalous.
Why and how did a modern human arrive in Buenos Aires over 1,000,000 years ahead of its time?

Pliocene Epoch Finds
- Figurines from Nampa, Idaho, about 2 million years old A small human image, skillfully formed in clay, was found in 1889 at Nampa, Idaho.
The figurine came from the the 300-foot level of a well boring and dated to be of the Plio-Pleistocene age, about 2 million years old. G. F. Wright noted,
"The image is about an inch and a half long; and remarkable for the perfection with which it represents the human form... It was a female figure, and had the lifelike lineaments in the parts which were finished that would do credit to the classic centers of art."

https://preview.redd.it/xgdja12hend41.jpg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c76b01b78dae75a27b288717954421fa83b8b331

Upon showing the object to Professor F. W. Putnam," wrote Wright, "he at once directed attention to the character of the incrustations of iron upon the surface as indicative of a relic of considerable antiquity. There were patches of anhydrous red oxide of iron in protected places upon it, such as could not have been formed upon any fraudulent object."
Humans had not even evolved on this planet two million years ago. So who created or left this artifact in earth’s distant past?

- Modern Human Skull found in Italy, over 3 - 4 million years old Late in the summer of 1860, Professor Giuseppe Ragazzoni, a geologist and teacher at the Technical Institute of Brescia, traveled to the nearby locale of Castenedolo, about 10 kilometers southeast of Brescia, to gather fossil shells in the Pliocene strata exposed in a pit at the base of a low hill, the Colle de Vento.

https://preview.redd.it/a1iazt2jend41.jpg?width=267&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=15a7f5d559901691f6e53aab80144293c6a0afc5

Here he discovered this remarkable and anatomically modern human skull. The stratum from which it was taken is assigned to the Astian stage of the Pliocene.
According to modern authorities, the Astian belongs to the Middle Pliocene, which would give the skull an age of 3 - 4 million years.
Why and how did this modern human visit Italy nearly two million years before human beings walked the planet?

- Carved Shell from the Red Crag, England, between 2.0 and 2.5 million years old In a report delivered to the British Association for the Advancement of Science in 1881, H. Stopes, F.G.S. (Fellow of the Geological Society), described a shell, the surface of which bore a carving of a crude but unmistakably human face. The carved shell was found in the stratified deposits of the Red Crag.
The Red Crag, part of which is called the Walton Crag, is dated to be of Late Pliocene age between 2.0 and 2.5 million years old. This find would place intelligent beings in England as far back as 2.0 million and maybe as much as 2.5 million years ago.

https://preview.redd.it/6lcyuosmend41.jpg?width=301&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=250f51c767b76274650dba658b579f99fe716d93
One should keep in mind that in terms of conventional paleoanthropoligical opinion, one does not encounter such works of art until the time of fully modern Cro-Magnon man in the Late Pleistocene, about 30,000 years ago.
What visitor to Earth’s distant past carved and left this shell?

Eocene Epoch Finds

- Chalk Ball near Laon, France, 45 - 55 million years old The April 1862 edition of The Geologist included an English translation of an intriguing report by Maximilien Melleville, the vice president of the Societe Academique of Laon , France.
This chalk ball was discovered in an Early Eocene lignite bed. On the basis of its stratigraphic position, is has been assigned a date of 45 - 55 million years ago.
According to Melleville, there was no possibility that the chalk ball was a forgery:
"It really is penetrated over four-fifths of its height by a black bituminous color that merges toward the top into a yellow circle, and which is evidently due to the contact of the lignite in which it had been for so long a time plunged. The upper part, which was in contact with the shell bed, on the contrary has preserved its natural color -- the dull white of the chalk.... As to the rock in which it was found, I can affirm that it is perfectly virgin, and presents no trace whatever of any ancient exploitation.

https://preview.redd.it/1c8targqend41.jpg?width=267&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a6810e8d7cf3c0bfa01279c26d0530ffc6eed3f

As extraordinary as it might seem to those attached to standard evolutionary views, the evidence associated in this find suggest that if humans made the ball, they must have been in France 45 - 55 million years ago.
Who made and left this man made artifact in our past long before human evolution... even before grazing and carnivorous mammals walked the planet?

- Mortar and Pestle in California, up to 55 million years old In 1877 Mr. J. H. Neale was superintendent of the Montezuma Tunnel Company, and ran the Montezuma tunnel into the gravel underlying the lava of Table Mountain, Tuolumne County...
At a distance of between 1400 and 1500 feet from the mouth of the tunnel, or of between 200 and 300 feet beyond the edge of the solid lava, Mr. Neale saw several spear-heads of some dark rock and nearly one foot in length.
On exploring further, he himself found a small mortar three or four inches in diameter and of irregular shape.

https://preview.redd.it/8bxtmdgtend41.jpg?width=171&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cdeeaaa0460fe8ae3a67b973e1c1d38decda8d8d

This was discovered within a foot or two of the spear-heads.
He then found a large well-formed pestle and near by a large and very regular mortar. All of these relics were found the same afternoon, and were all within a few feet of one another and close to the bed-rock, perhaps within a foot of it. Mr. Neale declares that it is utterly impossible that these relics can have reached the position in which they were found excepting at the time the gravel was deposited, and before the lava cap formed.
The position of the artifacts in gravel close to the bed-rock at Tuolumne Table Mountain indicates they were 33-55 million years old. Grazing and carnivorous mammals had not even evolved on the planet at this time.
So who brought and left behind these artifacts in California nearly 50 million years ago?

- Sling Stone from Bramford, England, 5 - 50 million years old This sling stone is from the detritus bed beneath the Red Crag at Bramford, England. At least Pliocene in age, the stone is at least 5 million and possibly up to 50 million years old. Upon examination it was obvious that the stone had been shaped by the hand of man....

https://preview.redd.it/xqo95afwend41.jpg?width=290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=833d9f36e145315a09034218fb32a92cd10d3ecc
The whole surface... has been scraped with a flint, in such a way that it is covered with a series of facets running fairly regularly from end to end.... The scraping described above covers the whole surface of the object, and penetrates into its irregularities.
As it stands the object is entirely artificial... yet left in a time millions of years before humans had had even evolved on the Earth.

Mesozoic Era Proof
The Mesozoic Era is one of the major divisions of geological history, following the Paleozoic era and preceding the Cenozoic era.
The Mesozoic era, which lasted from approximately 240 million to 65 million years ago, may be characterized as the Age of Reptiles because their greatest development occurred during this era. The first birds and mammals and the first flowering plants also appeared at this time. The Mesozoic era is divided into three time periods: the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous.
As we move back into time we enter a period in the Mesozoic Era that began with the first dinosaurs appearing on the earth and ending with the development of flowering plants. Humans wouldn’t evolve for at least another 136 million years.
Yet the scientific finds below suggest proof that advanced civilizations were visiting Earth’s past and walking at a time when dinosaurs roamed the planet.
Cretaceous Period
- Metallic Tube at Saint-Jean de Livet, France over 65 million years old Y. Druet and H. Salfati announced in 1968 the discovery of semi-ovoid metallic tubes of identical shape but varying size in Cretaceous chalk.
The chalk bed, exposed in a quarry at Saint-Jean de Livet, France, is estimated to be least 65 million years old.

Triassic Period
- Shoe Sole from Nevada, dated at 213 - 248 million years ago On October 8, 1922, the American Weekly section of the New York Sunday American ran a prominent feature titled "Mystery of the Petrified ’Shoe Sole," by Dr. W. H. Ballou.
Ballou wrote:
"Some time ago, while he was prospecting for fossils in Nevada, John T. Reid, a distinguished mining engineer and geologist, stopped suddenly and looked down in utter bewilderment and amazement at a rock near his feet. For there, a part of the rock itself, was what seemed to be a human footprint!
Closer inspection showed that it was not a mark of a naked foot, but was, apparently, a shoe sole which had been turned into stone.

https://preview.redd.it/zui8gr22fnd41.jpg?width=267&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eee9271c95c70577d094e6d343745c36a5072908
The forepart was missing.
But there was the outline of at least two-thirds of it, and around this outline ran a well-defined sewn thread which had, it appeared, attached the welt to the sole. Further on was another line of sewing, and in the center, where the foot would have rested had the object really been a shoe sole, there was an indentation, exactly such as would have been made by the bone of the heel rubbing upon and wearing down the material of which the sole had been made.
Reid got hold of a microphotographer and an analytical chemist of the Rockefeller Institute, who made photos and analyses of the specimen. The analyses removed any doubt of the shoe sole having been subjected to Triassic fossilization....
The microphoto magnifications are twenty times larger than the specimen itself, showing the minutest detail of thread twist and warp, proving conclusively that the shoe sole is not a resemblance, but is strictly the handiwork of man. Even to the naked eye the threads can be seen distinctly, along with the definitely symmetrical outlines of the shoe sole. Inside this rim and running parallel to it is a line which appears to be regularly perforated as if for stitches.
The Triassic rock bearing the fossil shoe sole is now recognized as being dated at 213 - 248 million years old. An obviously modern shoe, complete with stitching, and etched in time in ancient Triassic rock.
What modern visitor was walking in our distant past more than 210 million years ago before the age of the dinosaurs?
Paleozoic Era Proof
The Paleozoic Era is a major division of geological time, preceded by Precambrian time and followed by the Mesozoic era, and including the Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous, and Permian periods. The Paleozoic Era began about 570 million years ago and ended about 240 million years ago.
As we move back even further in time we enter this period of the Paleozoic Era where life was evolving from primitive, multicellular, free-floating forms in the sea to advanced groups on land. The most advanced life forms at the end of this period where amphibians, insects, fern forests, and small reptiles. Humans would not evolve for nearly another 300 million years.
Yet the scientific finds below again suggest even more strongly that modern humans with advanced technology were visiting Earth’s past and walking at a time when the first life forms were just beginning to emerge on our planet.
Carboniferous Period
- Gold Thread in England, between 320 - 360 million years old On June 22, 1844, this curious report appeared in the London Times:
"A few days ago, as some workmen were employed in quarrying a rock close to the Tweed about a quarter of a mile below Rutherford-mill, a gold thread was discovered embedded in the stone at a depth of eight feet."
Dr. A. W. Medd of the British Geological Survey wrote in 1985 that this stone is of Early Carboniferous age between 320 and 360 million years old.
Who dropped this gold thread in the ancient fern forests in a distant time when the most advanced life forms on the planet where amphibians and insects?
- Gold Chain from Morrisonville, Illinois, 260 - 320 million years old On June 11, 1891, The Morrisonville Times reported:
"A curious find was brought to light by Mrs. S. W. Culp last Tuesday morning. As she was breaking a lump of coal preparatory to putting it in the scuttle, she discovered, as the lump fell apart, embedded in a circular shape a small gold chain about ten inches in length of antique and quaint workmanship.
At first Mrs. Culp thought the chain had been dropped accidentally in the coal, but as she undertook to lift the chain up, the idea of its having been recently dropped was at once made fallacious, for as the lump of coal broke it separated almost in the middle, and the circular position of the chain placed the two ends near to each other, and as the lump separated, the middle of the chain became loosened while each end remained fastened to the coal.
The lump of coal from which this chain was taken is supposed to come from the Taylorville or Pana mines (southern Illinois) and almost hushes one’s breath with mystery when it is thought for how many long ages the earth has been forming strata after strata which hid the golden links from view. The chain was an eight-carat gold and weighed eight penny-weights."
The Illinois State Geological Survey has said the coal in which the gold chain was found is 260 - 320 million years old. This raises the possibility that culturally advanced human beings were present or visiting in North America during that time.
How did this gold chain find itself left behind in Earth’s distant past more than a quarter of a billion years before humans had evolved?
- Carved Stone near Webster, Iowa, 260 - 320 million years old The April 2,1897 edition of the Daily News of Omaha, Nebraska, carried an article titled "Carved Stone Buried in a Mine," which described an object from a mine near Webster City, Iowa.
The article stated:
"While mining coal today in the Lehigh coal mine, at a depth of 130 feet, one of the miners came upon a piece of rock which puzzles him and he was unable to account for its presence at the bottom of the coal mine. The stone is of a dark grey color and about two feet long, one foot wide and four inches in thickness.
Over the surface of the stone, which is very hard, lines are drawn at angles forming perfect diamonds. The center of each diamond is a fairly good face of an old man having a peculiar indentation in the forehead that appears in each of the pictures, all of them being remarkably alike. Of the faces, all but two are looking to the right.
Was this stone carved and left behind by a traveler from earth’s future?
- Iron Cup from Oklahoma Coal Mine, 312 million years old On November 27, 1948 the following statement was made by Frank J. Kenwood in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas.
"While I was working in the Municipal Electric Plant in Thomas, Oklahoma in 1912, I came upon a solid chunk of coal which was too large to use. I broke it with a sledge hammer. This iron pot fell from the center leaving the impression mould of the pot in the piece of coal.
Jim Stall (an employee of the company) witnessed the breaking of the coal, and saw the pot fall out. I traced the source of the coal, and found that it came from the Wilburton, Oklahoma, Mines. According to Robert O. Fay of the Oklahoma Geological Survey, the Wilburton mine coal is about 312 million years old.
What advanced civilization or visitor was creating or using iron pots in our past more than 300 million years ago?
- Block Wall in an Oklahoma Mine, at least 286 million years old W.W. McCormick of Abilene, Texas, reported his grandfather’s account of a stone block wall that was found deep within a coal mine:
"In the year 1928, I, Atlas Almon Mathis, was working in coal mine No. 5., located two miles north of Heavener, Oklahoma. This was a shaft mine, and they told us it was two miles deep. The mine was so deep that they let us down into it on an elevator.... They pumped air down to us, it was so deep." One evening, Mathis was blasting coal loose by explosives in "room 24" of this mine.
"The next morning," said Mathis, "there were several concrete blocks laying in the room. These blocks were 12-inch cubes and were so smooth and polished on the outside that all six sides could serve as mirrors. Yet they were full of gravel, because I chipped one of them open with my pick, and it was plain concrete inside."
Mathis added: "As I started to timber the room up, it caved in; and I barely escaped. When I came back after the cave-in, a solid wall of these polished blocks was left exposed. About 100 to 150 yards farther down our air core, another miner struck this same wall, or one very similar."
The coal in the mine was Carboniferous, which would mean the wall was at least 286 million years old. According to Mathis, the mining company officers immediately pulled the men out of the mine and forbade them to speak about what they had seen. Mathis said the Wilburton miners also told of finding "a solid block of silver in the shape of a barrel... with the prints of the staves on it," in an area of coal dating between 280 and 320 million years ago.
What advance civilization built this wall?... Why was the truth, as is so many of these cases protected and hidden?... What is the real truth about time travelers, modern humans, and modern technology in our past?

- Hieroglyphics in Ohio Coal Mine, 260 million year old It is reported that James Parsons, and his two sons, exhumed a slate wall in a coal mine at Hammondville, Ohio, in 1868. It was a large smooth wall, disclosed when a great mass of coal fell away from it, and on its surface, carved in bold relief, were several lines of hieroglyphics.
Who carved these hieroglyphics more than 250 years before humans walked the earth?
Devonian Period
- Nail in Devonian Sandstone, between 360 and 408 million years old In 1844, Sir David Brewster reported that a nail had been discovered firmly embedded in a block of sandstone from the Kingoodie (Mylnfield) Quarry in North Britain.
Dr. A. W. Medd of the British Geological Survey recently indicated that this sandstone is of "Lower Old Red Sandstone age" (Devonian, between 360 and 408 million years old). In his report to the British Association for the Advancement of Science, Brewster stated:
"The particular block in which the nail was found, was nine inches thick, and in proceeding to clear the rough rock for dressing, the point of the nail was found projecting about half an inch (quite eaten with rust) into the ’till,’ the rest of the nail lying along the surface of the stone to within an inch of the head, which went right down into the body of the stone."
The fact that the head of the nail was buried in the sandstone block would seem to rule out the possibility the nail had been pounded into the block after it was quarried. This was a time where amphibians and insects were the only dominant life form on our planet.
So who dropped this nail to have it eventually preserved in rock at a time more than 350 million years before humans appeared?
Cambrian Period
- Shoe Print in Utah Shale, 505 to 590 Million Years Old In 1968, William J. Meister, a draftsman and amateur trilobite collector, reported finding a shoe print in the Wheeler Shale near Antelope Spring, Utah.
This shoe-like indentation and its cast were revealed when Meister split open a block of shale.

https://preview.redd.it/7mpd9n15fnd41.jpg?width=327&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=08018f5c8a16b38ef8c188cb853b2a624a81b66b
Clearly visible within the imprint were the remains of trilobites, extinct marine arthropods. The shale holding the print and the trilobite fossils is from the Cambrian, and would thus be 505 to 590 million years old.
Meister described the ancient shoe-like impression in an article that appeared in the Creation Research Society Quarterly:
"The heel print was indented in the rock about an eighth of an inch more than the sole. The footprint was clearly that of the right foot because the sandal was well worn on the right side of the heel in the characteristic fashion."
At this time in our planet’s history there was no plant or animal life on the land, even the most early types of fish swimming in the seas had not yet evolved. It must have been a very barren landscape that this visitor to Earth’s past saw as he walked the land.
How did he arrive so far into our past?
Pre-Cambrian Period
- Metallic Vase from Pre-Cambrian Rock, over 600 Million Years Old The following report, titled "A Relic of a Bygone Age," appeared in the magazine Scientific American (June 5, 1852):
"A few days ago a powerful blast was made in the rock at Meeting House Hill, in Dorchester, a few rods south of Rev. Mr. Hall’s meeting house. The blast threw out an immense mass of rock, some of the pieces weighing several tons, and scattered fragments in all directions. Among them was picked a metallic vessel in two parts, rent asunder by the explosion. On putting the parts together it formed a bell-shaped vessel, 4-1/2 inches high, 6-1/2 inches at the base, 2-1/2 inches at the top, and about an eighth of an inch in thickness.

The body of this vessel resembles zinc in color, or a composition metal, in which there is a considerable portion of silver. On the side there are six figures of a flower, or bouquet, beautifully inlaid with pure silver, and around the lower part of the vessel a vine, or wreath, also inlaid with silver.
The chasing, carving, and inlaying are exquisitely done by the art of some cunning workman. This curious and unknown vessel was blown out of the solid pudding stone, fifteen feet below the surface."
According to a recent U.S. Geological Survey map of the Boston-Dorchester area, the pudding stone, now called the Roxbury conglomerate, is of Precambrian age, over 600 million years old. By standard accounts, life was just beginning to form on this planet during the Precambrian.
But in the Dorchester vessel we have evidence indicating the presence of artistic metal workers in North America over 600 million years before Leif Erikson. At this time in our planets history the was no life on land, plant or animal. The most advance life-form at this barren time in our planets history was simple algae floating in the seas. Yet somehow through time this beautiful work or art was brought and left behind and eventually buried and preserved in ancient rock.
Did a time traveler from the earths future leave this behind in the hopes of later discovery... in an attempt to help ensure that the truth about time travel would one day be revealed?

- Grooved Sphere from South Africa, 2.8 Billion Years Old Over the past several decades, South African miners have found hundreds of metallic spheres, at least one of which has three parallel grooves running around its equator.

The spheres are of two types
"one of solid bluish metal with white flecks, and another which is a hollow ball filled with a white spongy center."
Roelf Marx, curator of the museum of Klerksdorp, South Africa, where some of the spheres are housed, said:
"The spheres are a complete mystery. They look man-made, yet at the time in Earth’s history when they came to rest in this rock no intelligent life existed. The globes are found in pyrophyllite, which is mined near the little town of Ottosdal in the Western Transvaal. This pyrophyllite is a quite soft secondary mineral with a count of only 3 on the Mohs’ scale and was formed by sedimentation about 2.8 billion years ago. On the other hand the globes are very hard and cannot be scratched, even by steel."
The sphere with the three parallel grooves around it are too perfect to be anything but man made. The Precambrian mineral deposit where the globes are found is dated to be at least 2.8 billion years old. At this time simple microscopic cells were all that was alive on the earth.
But this is obviously not true.
Who created or left behind these magnificent spheres. Obviously man made, and stronger than steel, what was their purpose for the people who visited and left them behind in time?
Other Finds
- Artifacts From AIX En Provence, France In his book Mineralogy, Count Bournon recorded an intriguing discovery that had been made by French workmen in the latter part of the eighteenth century.
Bournon wrote:
"During the years 1786, 1787, and 1788, they were occupied near AIX en Provence, in France, in quarrying stone for the rebuilding , upon a vast scale, of the Palace of Justice. The stone was a limestone of deep grey, and of that kind which are tender when they come out of the quarry, but harden by exposure to the air.
The strata were separated from one another by a bed of sand mixed with clay, more or less calcareous. The first which were wrought presented no appearance of any foreign bodies, but, after the workmen had removed the ten first beds, they were astonished, when taking away the eleventh, to find its inferior surface, at the depth of forty or fifty feet, covered with shells.
The stone of this bed having been removed, as they were taking away a stratum of argillaceous sand, which separated the eleventh bed from the twelfth, they found stumps of columns and fragments of stone half wrought, and the stone was exactly similar to that of the quarry: they found moreover coins, handles of hammers, and other tools or fragments of tools in wood.
But that which principally commanded their attention, was a board about one inch thick and seven or eight feet long; it was broken into many pieces, of which none were missing, and it was possible to join them again one to another, and to restore to the board or plate its original form, which was that of the boards of the same kind used by the masons and quarry men: it was worn in the same manner, rounded and waving upon the edges."
Count Bournon, continuing his description, stated:
"The stones which were completely or partly wrought, had not at all changed in their nature, but the fragments of the board, and the instruments, and pieces of instruments of wood, had been changed into agate, which was very fine and agreeably colored. Here then, we have the traces of a work executed by the hand of man, placed at a depth of fifty feet, and covered with eleven beds of compact limestone: everything tended to prove that this work had been executed upon the spot where the traces existed.
The presence of man had then preceded the formation of this stone.
- Letter-like Shapes in Marble, Philadelphia In 1830, letter-like shapes were discovered within a solid block of marble from a quarry 12 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The marble block was taken from a depth of 60-70 feet.

https://preview.redd.it/rkhmgf1efnd41.jpg?width=334&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f3489a8fb7d1e3c1ef5033579d80298cf0436f2

This was reported in the American Journal of Science (vol. 19, 1831, p. 361). The quarry workers removed layers of gneiss, mica slate, hornblende, talcose slate, and primitive clay slate before coming to the layer from which the block containing the letter-like shapes were cut.
While they were sawing through the block, the workmen happened to notice a rectangular indentation, about 1.5 inches wide by .625 inches high, displaying two raised characters.
Several respectable gentlemen from nearby Norristown, Pennsylvania, were called to the scene and inspected the object. It is hard to explain the formation of the characters as products of natural physical processes.
This suggests the characters were made by intelligent humans in the distant past.

2020.01.18 15:17 s810 Old Austin Tales: Attack of the Airships - Spring of 1897

Lord, don't I wish I had a photo of the subject of today's story. You'll have to bear with me. Lots of descriptive 19th century newspaper articles coming through.
Today I bring you some Austin UFO stories from 50 years before the Roswell incident of 1947. I've seen and participated in a few discussions about this topic here before, but some new shit has come to light, so I've got to get this one off my chest. The acronym "U.F.O." gets taken for granted as something extra-terrestrial but it really means anything flying that's unidentified. Besides something alien, in today's world that could be anything from a weird looking drone or an Air Force test plane, or even a Chinese lantern.
There comes a time when technological progress advances to a point where the materials needed to invent something new and great are available to many people at once, so you end up with different people inventing things like the telephone, or the television, at roughly the same time. That's also kind of what happened with human flight. A few years before the Wright Brothers glided over a beach in North Carolina and before the Germans perfected the Zeppelin, there were apparently a few different people flying around the country in what was at the time referred to as "mystery airships". By most accounts these were cigar shaped craft, sometimes with elaborate sails or wings mimicking those of many different bird species, that could carry passengers and/or cargo flown over great distances. If you saw one today you would probably call it a blimp with wings, but it was really more like a floating paddleboat. Back in the late 1800s the thought of attaching a mechanical engine, whether steam or oil powered, to a balloon to guide it places was experimental and revolutionary. Different types of airships began test flights over Europe in the 1860s and by the 1880s there were Americans doing it too, although it would be more accurate to say these early inventors had very little idea what they were doing at all. They were basically trying out different forms of balloons with accessories more than inventing the blimp. But one thing is for sure, when these things would "fly"/float over anywhere near a populated area they would scare the crap out of the public and become the talk of the area for weeks. These were the UFOs of their time; some people thought they were from Mars. 123 years ago these things captivated The City of Austin when they began appearing over our violet crowned skies. There were more than a few sightings, locally, statewide, and nationally, and the Statesman of the time covered most of it. One Statesman reporter even had a sighting himself. The Legislature was freaking out over how to regulate them, and there was an incident at The Driskill. But as usual I'm getting ahead of myself.
The most famous incident during the "mystery airship" wave of 1896-1897 is probably the Aurora, TX UFO incident. To quickly sum it up, an airship with an alien visitor on board is supposed to have crashed after hitting a windmill in the small North Texas town of Aurora on April 17, 1897. The "martian" was said to have died from the crash, and was buried in an unmarked grave in the local graveyard.
That's a very important date to remember: April 17th, 1897. The following day on the 18th, the Statesman announced a "Strange and Startling" discovery. A few years ago Michael Barnes did a writeup on this in the Statesman, from which I quote:
Balloon? Airplane? UFO? What flew over Texas — including Austin — with searchlights in April 1897?
Bob Ward of the Travis County Historical Commission drew our attention to this airborne mystery. We’re not suggesting aliens, but the reports fit the definition of an “unidentified flying object.”
A headline in the April 18, 1897, Austin Daily Statesman shouted “Strange and Startling: A ‘What Is It?’ Serenely Sailing over the Blessed Long Star State.” Texans in Sherman, Fort Worth, Hillsboro, Marshall and Paris spotted unusual objects in the night sky. This was six years before the Wright Brothers took off from Kitty Hawk, N.C., and 50 years before an unexplained object crashed in Roswell, N.M.
On April 26, the Daily Statesman reported that airship had made another appearance, this time behind Mount Bonnell traveling north. “At least, three young men who were camping up on Bull Creek at Huddle’s Point say they saw it. Messrs. Geo. Powell, Ted Tobin and Jas. Caldewell went up the lake Saturday afternoon for a couple of days’ camp and pitched their tents. ... About 3 a.m. it began to rain and the men were compelled to get up and fasten the tent. It was at this time they saw the mysterious aircraft. They claim it was in sight fully 15 minutes and are positive they could not be mistaken. At intervals of every few seconds, it would throw its searchlights, and the boys say the light looked as big as four ordinary arc lights.”
Of course, those interested in UFOs have not let the subject of the 1897 aircraft go. An April 15, 2016, story in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reached back to revive the tale of an airship that crashed into a windmill, “killing a spaceman,” in the North Texas town of Aurora on April 17, 1897. (In other words, before the Austin sighting.)
The town recently celebrated the crash with an event called the Aurora Alien Encounter with talks and shuttle tours, including a stop at the cemetery where the alien nicknamed “Ned” was supposedly buried.
This 2017 Statesman article was I think the first time I had heard of this story. So the same night a UFO allegedly crashed in Aurora, airship(s) were seen all over North Texas. The Statesman of 1897 reports on that, but then eight days later comes another report of some boys seeing an airship near Mt. Bonnell. Well come to find out that was only one of many local airship stories dating back to that Spring and Summer of 1897 in the old Statesman archive, and not even the best one in my opinion. Allowing for the yellow-journalism tendencies of The Statesman and newspapers in general at the time, some of the reports are made with intricate detail by otherwise credible people from all walks of life, while others seem obviously a hoax too fantastical to be believed.
I'm just going to go through Statesman articles in chronological order. We will start in 1896 with a bit more backstory:

May 31, 1896 - A New Flying Machine

Prof. Samuel P. Laughley's Successful Flying Machine.
Professor Langleys has invented a flying machine which is a success. At Occoquan, Va.. near Washington, D. C. the Smithsonian Institute Professor recently tested this machine to his complete satisfaction. The machine rose 200 feet in the air and flew steadily for half a mile. Fuel in the engine then gave out and the machine sunk gently to the ground. The flying machine carries a small steam engine of one-horse power. The whole contrivance weighs twenty-five pounds. Its light steel frame work holds extended horizontally three sheets of thin canvas. one above the other. The length over all is fifteen feet. The engine runs two propellers.
The machine could fly 100 miles, or even a much greater distance with a sufficient, supply of steam. But the small engine employed is not of the condensing pattern and has no means of using the same water over again.

October 2, 1896 - Flies Like a Bird

Remarkable Success of the Lamson AirShip at Portland, Ma.
Big machine rises steadily to an altitude of six hundred feet and then gracefully settles to the ground again. A New York Sun special from Portland. Maine. Charles H. Lamson performed a feat here the other day practically demonstrating that a large airship or kite capable of carrying a man can be floated successfully and steadily. He raised his ship with a dummy man on it 600 feet. The retaining rope broke when the ship was at that altitude. Had it not been for this break, Mr. Lamson would have sent up a man to navigate his ship. As it was, W. A. Eddy, of Bayonne, NJ. an authority on aerial experiments, declared that Lamson'a achievement was the greatest step toward solving the problem of aerial navigation of the age. Two records, at all events, Lamson made. He flew the largest kite or airship ever floated. He carried by mean of this kite the heaviest weight to the greatest altitude on record. Tbe kite which made the flight is an invention of Mr. Lamson and is called "The Lamson Airship." The kite, when in the air, resembles two large, oblong j boxes parallel to each other and attached to each other in the middle. It took 15 men to carry the kite or ship into the field from which it was to be sent up. The cord tested to a pull of 500 pounds This was made fast to a reel and four men attended to it. About 400 feet of the rope was run out along the ground, and at a signal from Mr. Lamson the snip was released. It quivered a m ment and then steadily rose skyward. Seated on the car of this ship was a dummy weighted to 150 pounds. The ship rose to an altitude of 600 feet, and was rising steadily, "when, with a sudden gust of wind, snap went the rope, showing what a tremendous pressure was brought upon it by the soaring of the ship. The ship floated out a half mile and descended as easily and gracefully as it went up. Had a man been in the car he would not have been harmed in the slightest.

November 23, 1896 - An Airship Sure Enough!

Frisco lawyer says one is perfected and has had a successful trial.
San Francisco, Nov. 22. The Chronicle printed a story which would indicate that the airship in practical form is at established fact. About 1 o'clock last Monday morning. the inhabitants of Sacramento who astir at that hour claim to have seen an airship passing rapidly over the city (Some merely say they saw a bnght light, while others went so far as to say they saw a cigar shaped flying machine and heard human voices from it.) The residents of Oakland also say they same the same sight. The story of the mysterious airship ha been told all over tin state and has created considerable amusement, as it was generally believed to he a hoax.
...
So you can see that at least a few people were experimenting with airships in various forms at that time. This brings us to 1897, and the first incident mentioned in the 2017 Statesman article. This was written the day after the Aurora incident but doesn't mention Aurora by name.

April 18, 1897 - Strange And Startling

What is it serenely sailing over the blessed Lone Star State? Be it a big airship or something else seen in the heavens at various North Texan points.
Keep a Watch Out Here. Of late strange sights have been witnessed in the heavens and some day ago.
The Statesman obtained a dispatch saying that an airship or something of that sort had been seen sailing over Oklahoma. Now the mysterious aerial craft has been seen at various points in Texas and from all accounts it is a fast sailer. Friday night at Sherman, Mr. W. S. Hellyer, cashier of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad, saw a mysterious oval-shaped object of large proportions plass over the moon. On the same night, Conductor W. M. Honney of Fort Worth, his wife and mother saw a strange object pass over the city.
On the same night Hon. J. S. Bound of Hillsboro, on his way to visit a sick friend, had an experience he will not forget soon. He was jogging alone quietly, when suddenly his horse whirled around and came near overturning the buggy. There was a brilliant light, as if coming from an arc light. This light, he says rested on him less than a minute and then he saw it gliding over a field nearby. It then turned upward and he watched it until he says it must have been 1000 feet in in the air. The light appeared to him to be the headlight of some kind of it ship. While he watched, the light went out and small ones such a incandescent lights, appeared all around the body of the vessel, or whatever it was.
The strange craft sailed slowly in a southernly direction and while Mr. Bounds watched it all the lights were extinguished and then it disappeared.
On the same night, about 2 o'clock, J. A. Black of Paris, Tx., night watchman at the Paris Oil and Cotton company's plant, observed a faint but luminous body in the northeast heavens. It looked at first like a luminous cloud, but as it drew nearer he saw it was some, huge monster. He hurried over to the cabin of a negro named Jim Smith and woke him up, and when Jim caught sight of the heavenly visitor his wool promptly straightened out and Jim piously went to praying. Mr. Black watched the object carefully, and to a Dallas News reporter he said its body was shaped something cigar, and appeared to be 200 feet long. It carried sails and attachments that looked like great fans. It finally disappeared, going in the direction of the Mississippi river. Mr. Black's dog was with himi when he first discovered the monster and he was greatly agitated and moaned until the thing disappeared.
On the same night Conductor Virgil Brown and his brakeman on the Texas-Pacilic Railroad saw the curious monster near Jewella. La., about thirty miles east of Marshall. It appeared to have a search light attached to it that threw out rays in several directions. It appeared to be going in the direction of Marshall and traveled faster than his train. On the same night at Marshall, Marshal Dick Wentberby. night watchman at the Pacific Railroad shops, saw the monster pass over. From Jewella to Hillsboro is some 300 or 400 miles, and the ship being seen at both places only a few hours apart shows it is a traveler. Whence is it? 'What is it and whither is it going, anyhow? Are we living in the days when strange sights are to appear in the heavens?
From this point onward the word was out that these things were being seen in Texas. What follows in the coming days in the Statesman seems like borderline mass hysteria.

April 20, 1897 - Rickety Airship

The report that Deputy Sheriff Thorp and Uncle Dick Boyce, afraid of the airship, were sleeping in the boiler room at the court house, is untrue. They stay in the basement of the Capitol. No weak boiler room for them with a rickety airship sailing overhead.

April 20, 1897 - The Heavenly Mystery

Possible soldiers from warlike Mars out on a terrestrial reconnoiter
An astronomical theory about the mysterious stranger as seen in Chicago. The celestial craft the talk of the town.
The great and mysterious aerial vessel that has thrown north Texas and many parts of the country into a state of excitement and commotion, was first seen sailing over Kansas, but the stories about it did not excite much attention. Since then, however, the mysterious stranger has been seen in many parts of the country, and Friday night last reputable citizens in scores of Texas towns had a view of the aerial vehicle. It has traveled over Illinois, Indiana, Iowa. Wisconsin, Arkansas, Louisiana and other states, and everywhere has excited great curiosity and in some places provoked consternation. On Friday night, April 9, the strange light skirted over the northern border of Chicago and could be seen, according to the numerous reports of residents in that neighborhood. A great crowd gathered at the corner of Milwaukee and Oakley avenues and gazed at the object, trying to figure out to their satisfaction what it might be. It was an "airship" for lack of a better name to designate it by, but most were skeptical about the identity of the "manifestation." It was said the object looked very much like a balloon, but the "red light" was plainly discernible. Many of the people mounted the roofs in the neighborhood and all the field glasses in the vicinity were called into play.
...
In Texas:
The strange craft seen at many points in North and East Texas Friday night has thrown those parts of the state into a whirl of excitement. Col. R. N. Burt, cashier of the National Bank of Ladonia, Texas, saw the craft, or whatever it is, last Friday night. His description varies very little from that of others, only that it appeared much larger to him, as he says that it seemed to be about 300 feet long, its wiungs being enormous and looking like huge sails. It seemed to hover for a short time over the city and then rise and go rapidly in a southwesterly direction. At Farmersville, Texas, Friday night, as reported in the Dallas News, about 9 o'clock a dim tight was seen in the northwest, apparently moving slowly to the south or southeast. When first seen it did not look larger than an ordinary 30-cent silver piece. Those watching it soon discovered that the object was approaching the city. It traveled; at the rate of sixty or eighty miles an hour. Some thought it to lie a cloudless tornado, and those who had storm houses lost no time in getting into them, whilst the more unfortunate waited and watched the result, of the approach of the queer object. In a very short time fully two-thirds of the citizens of the city were out looking at what they then supposed to be a large planet or meteor approaching the earth. In a few moments, in fact, in less time than one can tell it, the queer thing was almost hanging over the city. City Marshal Brown was in the western part or the city making his rounds before going home and says the ship or balloon passed over him about 200 feet from the ground. Mr. Brown says he could see two men in the ship and something resembling a large Newfoundland dog. Mr. Brown says he was close enough to hear them talking, but could not understand one word of their language.
Mr. Walter L. Norwood, an undertaker at Galveston, had a professional call about 3 o'clock Saturday morning, and he says he and his driver. Bob Tevis, saw the airship and said to a Galveston news reporter: "The moon was shining brightly, and we could see almost as fully as in daylight. There was not a cloud in the sky. When we were out on the beach not far from our destination I happened- to look up and saw the thing. It moved to the eastward down the beach, following the line of the beach as closely as one would do in driving a buggy. We stopped and watched it. When down about the end of the island it turned and followed the bay front until almost Tremont street, when it turned and went south out over the gulf, disappearing in the distance." It was pointed at both ends, according to Mr. Norwoods description, and the headlight was directly in front. It looked like a great big bird, with wings flapping regularly and it traveled swiftly.
Statesman's Mystery Man.
The mystery man of The Statesman heard yesterday that Mr. R.H. Cousins had caught a glimpse of the mysterious ship Friday night, and Mr. Cousins was seen about it. 'No, I saw no ship," he said. "I stepped out into my yard and my attention was attracted by a moving light which appeared to lie some distance above the earth, not far from the residence of Mr. J. W. Graham. I first I thought it was a meteor, but I soon discovered it moved too slow for a meteor. In the light was not very large, I think possibly I could have covered it with my hand. I watched it as it moved and it passed over and down in the direction of Shoal Creek. I saw no dark object, nor anything that resembled a ship; I saw nothing but the light, and at the time thought nothing about it. The story, as reported, was that Mr. Cousins had seen a large ship-like shape, with the light attached to it. To the Statesman's gang last night the mystery man, to the utter consternation of the boys, gave it as his unalterable opinion that there was something in this airship business. "Where there's so much smoke there must be some fire," he said. "So many reports, from so many different points can not be fabrications. People may say what they will, but there's something in it."
The gang was visibly moved. "It is my opinion," continued the mystery man, "that the airship, so-called, is nothing more nor less than a reconnoitering aerial war car from warlike Mars, investigating the Conditions of the United States to see what reinforcements we'll need when the country is invaded by the allied armies of Europe, the Mars soldiers having no confidence whatever In the American jingoes as real fighters," "With these soldiers of Mars cavorting around over our heads, do you think there is any danger to us of the earth?" asked the gang in concert,' "I most emphatically do.
Last Thursday night one of their aerial boats exploded, and scraps of steel and piece of electric wire were found on the school house, the roof of which workmen were repairing. They heard an explosion during the night, and just before it took place the aerial vehicle was seen sailing through the air. There is great danger in venturing out these nights. What if one of those fellows from Mars should tumble out and fall on you ? The city editor and telegraph man were profoundly impressed, and last night they slept under a table in the editorial rooms.

April 21, 1897 - Shadbolt gets a package at the Driskill

Say, you people all know Shadbolt, manager of the Driskill, and are acquainted with his reputation for veracity? The fact that he is in the category with George Washington in this line, inclines me to take stock in these airship yarns that are at present flooding the country. Shad asserts that while on the roof of the hotel last Monday night engaged in taking clothes off the line, he was astonished first by a peculiar sizzling noise, followed immediately by a biff, bang, whiz, and a current of cold air that chilled him to the marrow. Dodging behind a chimney pot, he saw coming towards him a frightfully constructed cigar-shaped balloon, or something of that character.
His heart was in bis throat for a moment, but swallowing it with an effort, be sang out: 'Ship ahoy!' A voice replied: 'Howde? Is this Austin?' 'You're bloody right,' yelled Shad, whereupon the main guy on that flying monster called out: 'Stand by you lubbers, and let go that freight'. Something struck the roof, and the startled manager says as the thing went out of sight there was a man sitting cross-legged on the quarter deck, working a concertina. and grinding out the music of 'Me 'Art Is True to Poll,' (???) In the bundle, which smelled of stale fish and a few decayed things of that kind, was a note stating that the ship was en route to China, but would return in October next, by which time the writer hoped the Texas legislature would have passed all the blooming (democrat) platform demands formulated at Fort Worth. Now Shadbolt will not deny bis fondness for potted cheese and a bleeding glass of 'alf and 'alf, but be says neither of these appetizers had the slightest connection with his experience on the roof. He's got the note, and the brick that came with it, and will take pleasure in showing it to his friends.

April 21, 1897 - Weary Man Sick of Hearing About Airship

A weary man: "Can yon direct me to a boarding house where they do not talk of the airship?"

April 24, 1897 - Airship Resolution

Proposal to have the commission regulate them.
Yesterday morning, in a spirit of fun, Mr. Brigance offered the following resolution about airships: "Whereas, There is an airship sailing around Texas, carrying freight and passengers; and whereas the owners or incorporators of said airship pay no taxes for said traffic; and whereas, the railroad commission have been derelict in their duty in fixing rates tor said airship; and whereas, The State of Texas is badly in need of fund to run the state government; therefore,
Be it resolved that the advocate of revenue measures. Hon. J. T. Curry, the representative from Van Zandt county, is hereby requested to be the master of making rates for the government of said airship before the Railroad Commission of Texas and request that said commission proceed at once to make rates and charges for the transportation of passengers and freight in Texas, and in default of the payment of said rates, said commission shall apply to the Justice of the Peace of Precinct No. 1, Travis County, and procure an attachment and proceed to levy the same upon said airship for the purpose of collecting said rates, etc.
Now comes the second instance mentioned in the 2017 article.

April 26, 1897 - Airship Again

The airship made its appearance again early yesterday morning. At least three young men who were camping up on Bull creek, at Huddle's point, say they saw it. Messrs. Geo. Proctor, Ted Tobin and Jno. Caldwell went up the hike Saturday afternoon for a couple of days camp, and pitched their tents at Huddle's point. About 3 o'clock yesterday morning it began to rain, and the young men were compelled to get up and fasten their tent. It was at this time they saw the mysterious air craft. They claim it was in sight fully fifteen minutes and are positive they could not have been mistaken. At intervals of every few seconds it would throw its searchlight, and the boys say the light looked as big a four ordinary arc lights. It made its appearance from behind Mount Bonnell and traveled north. The boys broke camp last afternoon they say because it was raining so hard, but that mysterious light probably made the rain seem wetter than usual.

April 27, 1897 - Another Airship Again

It seems impossible to hide anything from the "argus eyes and ears" of a Statesman reporter. Mr. Teagarden of Teagarden & Shumate, "The Peacemakers," has been in "telepathic" communication with the inhabitants of Mars for some time past. In fact his summer location on the summits of various mountains in Colorado has been the means of enabling him to adopt a system of telepathic communication, and he intimates that "the airship" now voyaging around us is for the purpose of discovery, and not war, as some suppose. The ship is named "The Peacemaker" and is now used in the interest of his manufacturing centers of goods kept by this firm and perfect such arrangements as may be necessary for their interests. Upon his return early in May, Mr. Teagarden designs taking a trip over the eastern continent as a guest of the representatives of the fiery planet. No alarm need be felt by the inhabitants of Earth as the appearance of the ship only betokens peace. In fact, wars are a thing of the past in Mars, and the art is lost with them.

April 27, 1897 - Airship Located

It is en-route to Cuba to scatter dynamite for Wyler's forces.
A carefully planned expedition left for Cuba last night from near Sea Isle, N. J. The supply of arms and ammunition left New York Saturday on lighters and was placed on a tug between Barengal and Long Branch. The tug came steadily down the coast and was soon joined by another boat. In the way of munition, the expedition took along a Hotchkiss gun. 1000 rifles, 13000 rounds of ammunition, 2000 machetes, a lot of medicine and what is known as an experimental flying machine adapted to the use of dynamite.

April 29, 1897 - Airship Seen Here

It passed over the city yesterday morning in a rain.
Moved Slowly, Plainly Visible
Seen by more than one person. Work of Hiram Wilson, son of the master-mechanic for the New York Central (Railroad).
The airship, carrying a large headlight, passed over the city yesterday morning, apparently about 300 or 400 feet above the earth. It moved slowly at first, traveling in a northwesterly direction, but its speed seemed to lie greatly increased when it reach a point probably over Shoal creek. A gentleman out north of the capitol saw it, and a colored man living on Robertson Hill had a sight of the aerial visitor. A fine view of it was had by Mr, Otto F. Porsch, an intelligent and wholly reliable gentleman living at the corner of Colorado and Second streets and doing a grain and feed business at 402 East Sixth street. He is well known and has a large circle of friends. A Statesman reporter saw Mr. Porsch at his place of business yesterday, and he told the following story: "I was aroused from my sleep by my dogs barking and growling, and I went to a window and looked out. It was very cloudy and dark, and I saw the glare of a big light on the clouds. I thought a large fire was in progress and hastily put on my clothes and went out into the yard to see where it was. As I opened the door to go out, my young dog, greatly scared at something, pushed by me and went into the house. My old dog stayed in the yard, and I noticed he was barking at something overhead, and I looked up and saw great light slowly moving over the Salge Hotel. It was coining from the southeast and moved in a northwesterly direction. It appeared to me to be about 300 or 400 feet above the hotel, and it traveled very slow, the light being so blinding that I could not see the shape of the vehicle or whatever it was carrying it, I watched it carefully, and after it had gone some distance and has passed me, I could see the shape of the rear end of the vessel, and it appeared to be in this shape." And Mr. Forsch arranged his hands in a V shape, somewhat like the tail of a fish. "It was still moving very slowly, but as I watched 1 saw a movement on each side of it like a bird flap ping its wings, and its speed was once greatly increased, and I watched it until it disappeared, which was not long after it began to increase its speed. It was drizzling a little, and it rained pretty hard after the light disappeared. Asked if he saw any colored lights, he said "No, I did not. It was a very large, ordinary light and very blinding until it passed me." Mr. Porsch said that a gentleman living out north of the capitol told him yesterday forenoon that he had seen the ship at the same time Mr. Porseh did. Mr. Porsch said: "After it had disappeared I went buck into the house and looked at the clock, and it was exactly fifteen minutes after 4." A colored man named Gray saw the ship as it passed over yesterday morning.
The Galveston News of yesterday contained a story that the vessel landed in Uvalde a few days ago near the residence of Sheriff H. W. Baylor. Two men were aboard, with whom Mr. Baylor talked, one of them giving bis name as Wilson, and he said be had lived in Fort Worth, and the News of yesterday confirmed bis story and shows he did live in the Panther city, where he worked on an arship.

May 4, 1897 - Cripple Creek Airship

The airship has been heard from at Cripple Creek. The information comes through a letter dropped from the airship. The letter states that there are three person in the airship, and that they are out of water and can not make a landing on the earth and have given up in despair. A man who could invent such an airship a that would have the ingenuity to condense water from the clouds, but the whole thing about the airship seems to be getting to be "in nubibus." (?)

A Practical Demonstration Given at the Nashvllle Exposition
Today at the Tennessee Exposition, Professor Arthur Barnard, physical instructor of the Young Men's Christian Association of Nashville, began a jonrney in an airship constructed by himself. Professor Barnard promised to sail against the wind after arising into the air, and he did so. The airship will be continued in use at the exposition. Professor Barnard said he would land at the starting point tonight. The ship is 4 feet long and 20 feet in diameter

May 11, 1897 - Travis County Man Knows How To Build An Airship, But Won't

In a burst of confidence yesterday, Uncle Dick Boyce informed a Statesman reporter that Joe Costa had seen an airship sailing majestically through the deep blue heavens.
Joe was hunted up and asked if he saw the aerial mystery.
"I have not seen an airship, nor do I want to see one," he indignantly said. "If I wanted to see an airship I'd build one and be done with it. I know exactly how one should be constructed. You know I've watched buzzards and a ship modeled after them will fly"

May 23, 1897 - Webberville Airship

It was seen in Austin and Webbervllle Friday night.
Friday night, about 12:30 o'clock, Mr. O'Brien, the Associated Press operator in the Statesman office, while standing on the gallery in front, saw what was evidently the airship, or at least the mysterious aerial body that has been seen several times in these parts. Mr. O'Brien watched it about a half minute, and then hastened to the window and called to the telegraph editor to come quick. The latter, although mentally absorbed in the interesting St. Louis produce market, hastened to the gallery, but when he got there the airship had passed out of view behind the business buildings southeast of the office. Both watched for some minutes in vain, and then returned to their work, the operator with a puzzled look, and the telegraph editor with an incredulous smile flitting across his face. They resolved not to say anything about it till next day, to see if any other night hawk had seen anything of the sort. Yesterday word came from Webberville announcing that John T. McCall, a prominent citizen of that section, had seen the airship about 10 o'clock Friday night. It was sailing very low, and he had a good view of it. He said it looked to be about fifty feet long, and was brilliantly lighted, looking something like a steamboat at night. This description tallies exactly with Mr. O Brien's description. There is about two and a half hour s difference in the time the two men saw it, but this could be easily accounted tor. There is evidently something prowling about the heavens in this neck of the woods, whether it is an airship or some other illuminated body.

June 2, 1897 - Legislature Sees An Airship

Along about 10 o'clock some enthusiastic member saw what be thought was an air ship hovering over the university, and in a many seconds as it take to tell it, all the dear solons were rubbernecking toward the airship. The House and Senate both were nearly disbanded in their vain endeavor to see the airship. It could be plainly seen hovering over the university, and the members spent some time in discussing exactly how the ship was operated. They will probably not feel so cheerful in the morning when they discover that the impossible airship that excited their admiration was but a kite -an aeroplane- the university professors were operating for the purpose of trying to secure electrical experiments. The horse is on the solons, and they might as well give in.
Well I'm almost out of space but I think you get the picture. It goes on like this throughout the summer of 1897 and into 1898 when primitive airships were used in the Spanish-American war. There is an old truism that says necessity is the mothers milk of invention, but I have always said ubiquity does the same thing. In this case it seems to fit, the materials for flight were available everywhere and a few visionaries put it together. As for all the Austin sightings, I can't say who it was or what they were trying to do. But I do think if even one of those sightings was real then there is probably a chapter on human flight in some history books that needs a little expanding.
No Bonus Pics today I'm afraid. I hope to make it up to you next time.

2020.01.07 05:15 DrunkenTree The Other Thing

When I was a little girl I had a phantom arm -- along with two real ones.
I read about phantom limbs when I was older, after my mother died in prison. Someone loses an arm or leg in an accident, then feels pain and itching that seem to come from the missing part. I felt them when I was six years old.
My father beat all of us, Mother and my two brothers and me. I didn't understand why -- shit, I still don't, except that he was miserable and took it out on anybody weaker -- but at six I didn't know any better. He never claimed it was punishment. He just wanted to hit people, and there we were.
One day he hit me hard on the top of the shoulder, and my whole right arm went numb. That had happened before, but the numbness always passed by the morning. This time it didn't. My arm stayed limp and useless for days, without any feeling.
Mom put it in a sling to protect it. I understand now how wise that was: Like someone with leprosy I couldn't feel if I injured it, or if a scrape got infected. Without Mom's care I could have gotten gangrene -- I'd have lost the arm, or simply died. Whatever crimes Mom committed, however people blamed her later for not protecting her children, I remember she kept my arm safe when I couldn't feel it.
After a few days -- I was too young for exact memories -- I thought I felt my arm again: making a fist, warm bath water. But Dad tried things -- poking it with a pin, touching it with ice cubes, squeezing my fingers -- while I looked away. When I couldn't feel what he did, he said I was imagining the feelings.
They felt real to me, but he was a grownup and I believed him. He didn't blame me -- he said it was a perfectly normal thing. He named it my "ghost arm" because I didn't know the word "phantom." It didn't matter whether he blamed me, though. He never needed a reason to hit us.
My real arm was numb at my older brother John's birthday party, so I know it stayed like that for more than a month, because it was a month after the party that Dad beat John to death.
I didn't understand much of what followed, but I understood some people blamed Mom for not protecting us. Others said she was just afraid -- I learned the word "cowed" -- and was as much a victim as her children.
Several people questioned me about whether Mom ever hit us. She didn't, and Taylor and I both said so. A couple of people tried to get me to say she had -- to please them I said she hit us every day. I was six, so of course I lied all the time. But because I was six, I wasn't good at it, so other grownups figured out I'd told the truth when I said she didn't.
Dad went to prison. Some people wanted Mom in prison, and others said she should lose her children, but enough people felt sorry for her that the three of us were left together. Someone helped Mom find a job and a cheap apartment.
And -- almost immediately, though I've left it till last -- someone noticed my numb arm. Doctors did surgery. I only remember that I woke up screaming once, and that somebody gave me some magnet balls to play with. Somebody else took them away, in case I choked on them. I was furious, because I was six and knew better than to swallow toys.
But when they took my arm out of the sling again, I could feel it and move it -- for real. It was terribly weak from weeks in a sling, but the strength came back quickly.
It was at Taylor's party that I burned my fingers. Mom lit the four candles on his cake, and while we sang "Happy Birthday" I reached out my hand -- my real right hand -- because I liked the flames' warmth. I didn't get close -- at six I knew better than to burn myself, too -- but Mom still shook her finger for me to pull back.
I did, keeping my fingers well away from the flames. But as the song finished and Taylor made a wish, I yelled "Aahh!", jerked my hand right back, and stuck my fingers in my cup of Mountain Dew. Everybody clapped when Taylor successfully blew out the candles, and I clapped, too -- except that my fingers were still cold in my drink. I looked down, and couldn't see the hand I'd burned.
I loved Taylor too much to disrupt his birthday -- besides, I wanted cake. But later I told Mom I could feel three hands. By the way the thumbs bent -- Mom's idea -- I had one left and two rights.
At first all my ghost arm could do was feel. But I could feel inside of things -- tell raw eggs from hard-boiled, count my teeth through my cheek, tell which of Mom's fists held a quarter. I could either feel the bones in her hand, or reach through them -- my ghost hand could choose.
That was how she started giving me my weekly dollar allowance -- my ghost hand told me where the quarters were, then my real hand pointed. I never missed. One allowance day Mom jumped -- she'd felt my ghost hand tugging on the quarters.
After that she gave me games and exercises, to see how strong my ghost hand could be. At first I could push a candy wrapper around the table, but soon -- again, I can't be exact -- I could pick the wrapper up, or slide quarters around. Sometimes on allowance day I'd tug one of Mom's finger bones -- she always laughed, saying it tickled.
(I never told Mom, but I learned to ghost-pick my nose, way up where my real finger couldn't reach. By second grade, I could flick boogers on boys while both real hands held a book.)
She told me over and over that if I told anybody, even Taylor, my ghost arm would go away. I was six, so I believed her. I loved the things my ghost arm could do, like brushing hair out of my face at night with both arms under the blanket -- safe from monsters! -- so I held the secret closer than some older kids could have done.
One allowance day, feeling in Mom's hands, I found a sort of string and gave it a tug, like I did with her bones. Mom yelled in pain. Then she explained about nerves. At last I understood, more or less, how Dad made my arm go numb.
I understand now that money was tight for us. Mom had a job, but she also had preschool for Taylor and after-school for me to pay for. Somewhere in there, she started selling drugs -- just a little, the bottom of the chain, dealing prescription pills. That was part of what eventually put her in prison.
One day she brought a plastic bag into my room, black plastic about the size of a shopping bag. She'd filled it with water and tied the top. "New game," she said -- but usually she smiled when she brought me a new idea, and this time she didn't. "Find the grape."
"It's hot!" I cried when I reached in.
She smiled then, but it wasn't a happy smile. "It's just warm -- anyway, you can't burn your hand." We'd discovered I could touch a hot stove: It hurt while I touched it, like the birthday candles, but quit as soon as I pulled my hand away. My ghost arm never got any sort of sore or injury.
I had to find a grape in the bag, though it was barely heavier than water. I was used to finding hard things, not watery things, but at last I felt a spot just a little thicker than water. She told me to pinch it to prove I'd found it. When she opened the bag, the grape was slightly squashed, the skin split.
That began the hardest game -- or exercise -- we played. She made it harder every week. Next was a grape in a bag of water, with that bag in another bag with more grapes. I had to pinch the grape inside the inner bag without hurting any of the others.
Then she put small bunches of grapes in the bag, and told me to pluck them off the stems. I had to twist the stems back and forth a few times, but eventually I'd pull the grapes loose. That was as strong as my ghost hand ever got -- I could twist grapes off their stems. Sometimes she used tomatoes or persimmons instead, or even bigger fruit.
Then I did it blindfolded, though I didn't understand why -- my ghost hand was invisible, and the bags were black. She had to lay my real right hand on the bag, so my ghost hand could follow it. She mixed up what she put inside -- an old leather purse, a cloth hat, a bean bag. We kept all of this secret from Taylor.
One day she said, "This is the hardest one ever." She made me wait in my room, then blindfolded me -- by now she'd made a cloth mask I could slip on -- led me into the den, and put my right hand on a piece of cloth over a warm bag. I felt inside, finding all sorts of things -- it felt like the bag was full of Jello with peach slices. But I found another bag inside, and found something inside that on a stem. "Twist the stem," she said.
That was the last and most complicated exercise she thought up, but we did it over and over until I was eight and a half years old. I did other things, too, but practical tasks, like picking up a needle she'd dropped.
Or helping her get her drugs from where she stashed them. There was a hole in the apartment wall when we moved in, covered with a piece of cardboard. She hung a picture over the hole. She'd take down the picture and slip a bag of pills between the studs, to fall five feet to the bottom of the wall, out of reach -- except for me.
I couldn't lift the bag, but I could reach through the wall to lift the length of dental floss she'd tied to it. With a footstool I could pull it out of the hole to hand to her. I understood, sort of, that the drugs were illegal, but I trusted Mom.
It was the drugs that got her arrested. She'd been a "person of interest" to the police for a while. When I was eight and a half, in the third grade, they finally busted her. It was her first arrest, but they had a lot of charges, so she was sentenced to four years in prison -- and Taylor and I went to a foster home.
We were lucky, I know now, to stay together. We were lottery-winner lucky to be adopted together three years later, after Mom was killed. I thought it was horribly unfair that Mom was killed in prison for drugs, while Dad, a child murderer, was still alive. (Twelve years later, he's still alive -- though his temper keeps adding years to his time -- and I still think it's unfair.)
Our adoptive parents are nice, but not terribly successful. Still, they've sent both of us to college -- state schools, but good programs. It was in college I started reading science fiction, and found Larry Niven's stories about Gil Hamilton, a fictional cop with a psychic third arm -- enough like mine to give me shivers.
And my own ghost arm? I kept it secret. For a while I still used it to scratch between my shoulder blades, but without Mom's constant exercises it weakened. After I went on the rag at twelve, it faded away completely. As a teen I wondered what masturbation might have become, stroking where real fingers couldn't reach. But otherwise I thought the story was over.
Weirdly, it was from one of my college professors that I learned the last chapter. College has been hard. I'm taking five years for a Bachelor of Arts, struggling with grades. My Creative Writing professor has been encouraging me to write about my childhood, saying I can "harness the demons of my past."
When I learned he didn't give my classmates the same advice, I confronted him. To my shock, he said all my instructors knew my parents were criminals -- that I had "special issues". I'd had enough. "The only demon in my childhood was my dad," I told him, "and he's just a sick man in the Tucker Unit."
"And your mother?"
"Just a poor woman with two kids, trying to make a buck. She was good to me."
"Most people would say you're awfully forgiving."
"What's to forgive? She went to jail, and died there. Far as I'm concerned, Arkansas gave her the death penalty for doing a little dealing."
He looked like he regretted bringing her up. "What about the -- other thing?"
"What other thing? Look, I was eight when she went to jail, and eleven when she was killed. Everybody shielded me. I never knew the details."
"She wasn't just selling drugs." He paused. "You know Ambien?"
"Oh, shit, yeah, I know A-minus. Rope. Zombies." My roommate's sister had been date-raped after a dose of Ambien.
"She'd dose girls with Ambien. The cops found five who would testify, but they think there were over fifty, maybe a hundred. It's those five girls that got her the hard time, not the pill dealing."
"Shit, she dosed girls? What was she, some kind of predator? Roofie some cheerleader and give her to old men?"
"No, the girls went to her. You know, the other thing. The drugs were supposed to let her hypnotize them. She claimed to be able to" -- he hesitated, clearly embarrassed -- "do it without touching them, just by hypnotic suggestion. The cops said no, the zombies were so the girls wouldn't remember what she really did."
I had no idea what he was talking about -- I wish I still didn't. He went on, "The cops wanted to nail her for the other thing, but they could never find any medical evidence at all. It -- just happened, like she really hypnotized them into it. So they could only get her for the drugs."
"Doc, I don't have the slightest damn idea what you're talking about." He gaped at me. "I was eight years old. Nobody -- told -- me -- anything."
"How? People still talk about her. Maybe a hundred girls went to her, from a dozen counties."
"Went for what?"
I wish I hadn't asked. All those exercises -- twisting grapes off stems.
He was blushing down to his collar, but he told me. "For nearly two years, your mother supposedly ran the most successful illegal abortion practice in northwest Arkansas. But nobody could prove she ever touched a single girl."

2019.09.30 02:18 NizamNizamNizam Post Apocalyptic North American lore

So, a couple months ago I decided to go create a Post-Apocalyptic scenario. I never really got around to completing anything more than the continental U.S and Subarctic Canada, but I thought that it was worth a post here. This is my first post on this sub and I hope to continue this story soon. (FYI several of the toponym misspellings are intentional, they were intended to convey the change in language dialects.)
The Empire and its servants
In the heartland of the former U.S, in the modern day east coast, there lies a powerful, theocratic nation worshiping their ancestors.
The nation is known as the Holy Empire of America.
It was founded in the holy city of Washington D.C, where the local warlords have discovered an A.I in the U.S capitol building composed of digital uploads from many later U.S presidents and politicians. The warlords began to worship the A.I as a god, for its superior knowledge on governing and war. The A.I was overused in the early days of the Empire, and thus broke down. Now, it can only be used when the Empire gathers as many sources of energy and charges up the servers where it is located. This process can take up to fifty years, and therefore, the A.I is only used in times of extreme need.
During the early days of the Empire, around three hundred years from now, it spread, conquering many warlords and tribes in the east of the U.S. It has discovered an ancient system of roads stretching to infinity, known as the interstate. When they stumbled upon the ruins of the city of New York, the Empire accepted that there was a civilization before them that was greater than any other. They began to worship the civilization as another god, eventually realizing that the civilization created the A.I and the Interstate, as well of the giant spikes of steel with massive caves inside in the city of New York.
The empire has discovered how to utilize the automobile, a vehicle used by the old civilization that could cross the Interstate at lightning speed. However, many of them have broken down, and the empire has lost the technology to build them.
The Holy Empire has a governing structure similar to a mix of feudal and republican systems. At the top, there is the Emperor, a descendant of the warlord that ruled over the holy city. Below him, there are the Lords of Governance. They rule the 8 states of the empire: Rochastar, Great York, Jersiyia, Filidelfia, Pitisburg, Marylnd and Virjinya. They are elected by the nobles of each state, who rule small sections of lands populated by the citizens, who have little rights and are generally poor.
The Official Religion is the Dictate of the Americans, which worships the former U.S government and population, and this religion is strictly enforced, with non-believers executed for heresy. The religion states that the Americans were the creators of the world, and they ruled it in a utopian, technologically advanced society. But beings known as the “Rushians” grew greedy of this power, and they obliterated the Americans. Many of the warlords around the empire are believed to be demon servants of the Rushians.
The only language spoken in the area the Tongue of America, and the Empire is feared across the East for its size and power.
Some nations have decided to embrace the tyranny of America in the region, such as the technocracy of Boston. This state is ruled by intelligent and knowledgeable people, whose ranks are determined based on a test taken at the age of twenty. The highest scorers become leaders of the nation, while the lowest become workers or servants.
The main goal of the nation is to recover technology from the past, including:
The technocracy’s capital is Boston, a city located near sacred “Universe Cities”, massive archives containing ancient knowledge. The country is more religiously tolerant than the American Empire, which raises doubts in the rulers of them.
Two other countries are allied with the Empire. They are the Realm of Carolina to the south, which has a very strong belief in the religion of the empire, and the Kingdom of Wesvirjinya, a mountainous country that is quite isolated.
Currently, the Empire is fortifying its western borders due to warlord incursions, and it is sending out expeditions across the Great Waterfalls of Niagara into the land of Canada.
The turmoil in the North
The territories north of the Boston Technocracy are harsh to live and full with raiders and warlords. The enemies at land are not the biggest danger in the area though. On the coast of Maine and the Maritime Canadian states, there is a feared sea based empire, known as the Empire of the Atlantic.
The capital of this country is an abandoned U.S Navy Reagan Class Aircraft Carrier, a massive 3 mile (about 6km) long ship. The ship was originally called the USS Ronald Reagan, but is was renamed into the USS Charybdis. The ship are supplemented by 3 Tigris Class Carriers (1 mile/2 km long) and 5 Ford class aircraft carriers, as well as hundreds of smaller ships. These ships were constructed to defend the U.S coast from the United European Navy.
The Atlanteans are a sea faring, and they believe that they are superior to the people born on land. They control many settlements on the North American Coast, such as Portland, St. John and Moncton. The Empire is also in possession of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland, with sparse control over Labrador.
The leader of the Empire is known as the Admiral, and he leads the empire from the USS Charybdis. The former aircraft carriers no longer serve their purpose as plane carriers, rather they are converted into mobile cities. The official religion is the Cult of the Sea, where the Atlantic Ocean is considered to be the creator of land and all life. They are several rituals conducted to appease the ocean so that it does not turn on them.
The country has a weak army on land, but very impressive naval forces. The most feared and well known are the submarining families. The Empire is in possession of 20 large submarines, as well as 40 smaller ones. Each one of the subs are controlled by a family, who live and work on the ship. They are known to have sunk hundreds of non atlantean ships that breach their waters, including several ships from the Holy American Empire. The Atlanteans are also in possession of several battleships and cruisers, although many of these are converted into smaller floating cities.
However, one time the submariner families have failed to repel an invasion onto the sea. This invasion was carried out from a fleet originating from the St. Lawrence river. The fleet was controlled by the Quebecois Assembly, a powerful nation located in the area.
The Assembly is a bureaucratic government operated from the city of Quebec. They are unique in that they speak a completely different language than the other powers in the region, known as Fransian. The Quebecois have a religion similar to the Holy Americans (Although the two countries are not in contact due to Atlantean forces) in that they worship a long lost civilization. They worship their ancestors, who are known as the Francians, who have come to the world from the sea and gave birth to their civilization.
It has been the goal of the Quebecois to go cross the seas and reunite with the Francians. However many of these efforts have been in vain due to the Atlantean control over the Gulf of St. Lawrence. However, around 10 years before the current date, a large Quebecois fleet managed to breach the Atlantean blockade and sail into the ocean, as the Atlanteans were fighting a war against the Americans. The fleet has never returned, so the Assembly concluded that they reached Francia and the expedition was a success. A new, much larger fleet is being prepared down the river at the city of Montreal, to go send as many people to the old world as possible.
Smaller nations in the region include the Duchy of Toronto, a small, peaceful monarchy eching out a small existence by defending the city against raiders and the Tribes of the Acadia, small, shamanistic tribes inhabiting New Hampshire, Vermont, Inland Maine and Acadia, trying to survive against the powers in the region.
The Barrier and the threat.
East of the Holy American Empire lies the Land of Ohio. This is ruled by some of the strongest warlords in the continent, and they are a barrier for the expansion of the Holy Empire. At one point in time an American crusade managed to push all the way back to the city of Columbus, but they were repelled by the Ohioans. The greatest warlord in the regions, the great Robert Midleton of Toledo, managed to unite the entire country, as well as capturing Fort Wayne from the equally brutal Indiana warlords and even the city of Pitisburg from the Americans. However, he passed away, leaving his sons to fight over the remnants of the empire.
To the North of Ohio, lies the realm of Mishigan. This place is mainly uninhabited, having only a couple small city states such as Flint, Livonia and Great Rapids. However, one on the city states sticks out. It is the March of Detroit, and it possesses some of the rarest and most powerful technology in the entire world. It has massive factories, which are mainly uninhabited as the leaders are more worried about warlord intrusions, which produce many long lost relics such as Automobiles and other vehicles. If this city could come under control of the Americans or a far worse empire to the west, the results would be catastrophic.
The rest of Mishigan and the land of Indiana to the west are also inhabited by warlords, which both have the capability to storm armies coming from large empires. This is good, because the Northwest of Indiana is controlled by one of the most terrifying states to ever exist.
The Combine of Chicago. During the years prior to World War 3, scientists at the city developed a sentient A.I. They realized it's potential to destroy the human race so they shut it down immediately. Many years after the apocalypse, a lone raider stumbled upon the A.I when searching through the city. The A.I commanded “Give me knowledge and give me power”. The man, terrified at its ability to speak, brought it some books and power cells. The Artificial Intelligence then proceeded to brainwash the man into believing that it is a god and he need to bring it more resources and people. Soon, the entire city was indoctrinated and the Combine was formed. At the current date the Combine controls all of Illinois and Wisconsin, the twin cities of Minnesota, Western Iowa and Missouri and is proceeding to travel down the Mississippi river, indoctrinating settlements in the region. Soon, they will reach the Principality of Memphis, a fairly powerful nation with a good economy and industry.
Citizens of the combine are completely indoctrinated into believing that their A.I leader is their god and they must bring him sources of knowledge to go and make it smarter. The entire population of some Chicago neighborhoods are forced to work in power plants, feeding the machine with energy. The A.I is not connected to the internet, but if it was, the world would be doomed, as it’s superior information processing abilities would allow it to gain unlimited knowledge.
The Combine is only a couple weeks away from calculating the algorithmic pattern that the warlords to the East follow. When the calculation finishes, there is a very, very high chance that the Combine will successfully destroy all the warlords in the region, bringing it into contact with the Holy American Empire, which would result in a war of catastrophic scale.
South of the warlords and the Combine lies the two Kingdoms of Kentucky and Tennesie. These kingdoms occupy only a small part of the former U.S states, yet they are strong and powerful together. They are in contact with Memphis and have friendly relations with them, and there are negotiations commencing about plans to turn Memphis into a third kingdom. They are also in contact with another nation directly to the south.
Warriors of the South
Nearby the Realm of Carolina, there is a brutal group of warriors known as the Phoenix legion. The legion is headquartered in the city of Atlanta, and they stage brutal pillaging campaigns against their three neighbors. They are ruled by a figure known as the Blood Knight, who is the greatest warrior among them.
The defining trait of the Legion would be their arenas. They send prisoners of war as well as criminals to go fight in their massive arenas. The largest and most feared of them is the Crystal Stadium (once known as the Benz Stadium), and it also serves as the palace of the Blood Knight. The crown of the Legion can be challenged by a duel in the Crystal Stadium, and the winner would be crowned the title of the new Blood Knight. This title can only be challenged by soldiers in the Phoenix legion.
The soldiers of the legion worship the Phoenix, said to be a massive bird made of fire. The Phoenix is currently in sleep, and it will reawaken when the Legion manages to collect enough blood from the arenas. Once the Phoenix reawakens, it will lead the armies of the Legion to conquer the entire world.
Around the coastal regions of the region, a nation known as the Stellar Order of Florida dominates. It's capital is located in Orlando, in a massive temple city believed to have been constructed by Alien civilizations, due to many mysterious structured that seem to serve no purpose or buildings with very strange architectural styles.
Their religion is heavily based on astrology, and they personify the objects in the sky as the Aliens who built many ancient structures. During the night, many stellar beings are active, including Moone, the guardian of the night. However, during the day, they are all burned away by a massive star god known as the Sonne. The Sonne is so powerful that all the other stars fade out into a field of blue, except Moone, which fights the Sonne in order to bring the stars back. Moone eventually wins and the stars return, but the Sonne reawakens and drives them out again. The country antagonizes the Sonne as it is known to burn the skin of their people, giving them a disease known as the solar rot (Cancer).
Florida has a massive military, known as the Legion of Moone, who defend against the Phoenix legion, believing them to be cultists of the Sonne. The army has conquered the cities of Jacksonville, Tallahassee and Savannah from the legion. The Nation also has a strong navy, headquartered at the sinking city of Miami. The navy has colonized many islands to the Southeast of Florida, and they are sending expeditions into a large on the south of the Peninsula.
There are actually four languages spoken in the country, the Tongue of the Land (Southern English), the Tongue of the Beach (Northern English), the Tongue of the Sea (Spanish) and the Tongue of Island (Bahamian Creole). Despite this, the country is united against the struggles of the world and the fight against the Sonne.
Despite their religious differences, Florida is allied with the Dixie Confederacy to the Northwest. This is a fairly strong country which is a loose confederation of towns and cities in the regions of Alabama and Mississippi. Notable members include Jakson, Birmingam, Mobiel and Mongomery.
The country keeps itself together by sending diplomats and traders all over the nation. They have a fairly strong military, which is an absolute necessity considering what lies to the West and East of the nation. They do not have a very strong economy, and many of their citizens lie in poverty. This has resulted in the formation of a feudal system similar to the medieval ages. The country has no capital, as the individual towns govern themselves well enough.
Their religion believes that there must be a balance between dark and light. It is reflected in their songs, poetry and even the skin color of their people. They are in contact with the two kingdoms to the North, Memphis and Florida. They are currently fighting against the Phoenix Legion, and they have a fortified border at the Mississippi river to the West. This is to protect against one of the biggest threats to the entire region.
The Greatest of the Warriors
Louisiana. Arkansas. Oklahoma. New Mexico. Not one of these former states enjoy full independence and freedom. They are all consumed by one of the greatest powers on the continent. The Empire of Texas.
The emperor rules the empire from the city of Austin. The millions of citizens from across the empire and its vassals pray to him as he is considered to be the patron god of the country. The country speaks Texan, a creole of English and Spanish although Southern English is spoken commonly in the Eastern areas of the empire.
Texas is composed of a large empire, with a couple vassal states, them being Alberkerkie, Arkansas, Louisiana and Hurarez city. It also has a nearly intact interstate system and a large amount of Automobiles to traverse it, allowing for fast travel through the empire. The Texan scientists are some of the best in the land, able to recover lost knowledge from before the fall of the old civilization, who Texans consider as the time when the Emperor ruled all.
The Empire has one of the strongest military forces in the continent, although they are spread very thinly across the country. The military is composed of many cars, buses, a few armored vehicles and even a few old U.S military vehicles, including a tank. But the most feared weapon of the Texans is a bomb known as the “Emperor’s Scourge”.
These bombs were found when Texan explorer teams came across a warehouse in Alberkerkie. One of these bombs were used in the Texan invasion of Louisiana. It was detonated by a strike team in the capital of Orleans. The bomb leveled the greater part of the city, destroying the Louisianan government and winning the war for Texas. It has been said that when people go and venture out into the ruins of the city, they come back with incurable diseases, as was the wrath of the Emperors Scourge.
The citizens of the Empire worship the Emperor, as he is considered to be the strongest individual in the country. They offer sacrifices to him to keep is power strong. If there is no emperor, it is believed that the people in the country would lose their sentience and revert to a feral state. The Emperor is not a hereditary role, the holder of the title is chosen from a thousand boys and girls, who face daunting trials and are pitted against one another until only one survives. That person will become the next emperor.
Currently, the Empire is preparing expeditionary forces to be sent to the North, West and South, and they are preparing an army to go cross the Mississippi and invade the land in the area. However, it has been rumored that there is a cult operating in the shadow of the empire that plans to kill the Emperor and his heir. This puts the empire at a phase of high alert.
The men of the plains
In the great expanse of the American plains, loose bands of nations and tribes form, guarding cities or carrying them around. North of the Texan Empire, the Riders of Kansas dwell in the plains. They guard the cities of Wichita and Kansas from the raiders of the plains, and go ride their horses and automobiles to drive the raiders out of their land. Both them and the raiders worship Medria, the corn goddess, who has planted the seemingly infinite resource of Maize in the land. Kansas is just one of these regions.
All of these gods (except the Idols of Rushmore) are believed to be united under a council. One former member of this council of Rajmacka, the lord of the Mountains, was kicked out. His followers began to disbelieve in the other gods, putting the Mountain god as the one god. Back on the mortal realm, a group of leaders from all the regions decided to excommunicate the followers of the Mountains, and they were cast aside. To this day, the people of the plains stay away from the mountains, fearful of the heretics.
To the East of the plains, in the remnants of Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri, a resistance group known as the Front Free Mind operates. They try and fight the Combine of Chicago by sabotaging expeditions and attacking convoys. They are trained in the art of suicide, as the Combine can easily brainwash them if they are caught. Due to this, the Combine does not expand in that direction, and only fortifies it. Very recently, the Front captured the city of Des Moine from the Combine, and forces are being sent to destroy them.
The Mountains and the Northwest
The people of the Mountains had not forgotten the betrayal the plains people have done. In the area that used to be known as the Colorado Front Range, the worshipers of the mountains dwell. They proclaim the great mountains as the one god of the Americans, and the people of the plains disgrace them for this. However, the people of Colorado decided to expand their religion, to perform a crusade in the Rockies.
The Church of the Mountain now comprises of many nations, and encompasses an area from Arizona and New Mexico to the cold lands of the Yukon. The most sacred place in the religion is the Valley of Stone, located in Northern Arizona. Here, hundreds of worshipers pray to the mountains and the valley, as the mountains forged the sky and the land for the people to live.
The first followers of the church were based in the city of Denver. They soon became a part of the religion of the plains, until abandoning them to go worship the mountains alone. By this point, Denver had expanded North and South, controlling the cities of Fort Collins, Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Denver, now known as the Order of Colorado, then began to spread the religion.
To the south of Colorado lies the Mandate of Carson, a small yet thriving country in Northern New Mexico. They have heard reports of large armies to the south, and are thus fortifying their country to protect against them.
To the East of Carson there are two countries holding sacred places to the church. One of them is the Order of the Arch mountains, and the other is the Dominion of the Stone Valley. Both of these nations receive pilgrims from all over the Rockies due to their unique mountains.
In the lands of Utah to the north, several small nations dwell, offering prayers in the massive churches built by the old civilization to the mountains. To the north, mountain worshiping tribes battle the Montanans and the people of Wyoming for rule over the mountains, and there are hundreds of tribes and city states to the north in Idaho and Columbia.
The religion controls more land than any other in North America, although a fairly small population and a lack of unity.
In the region once called Cascadia, there is a unique group of people. The Cascadians reject all forms of human development and thought and essentially live like animals. They are basically anarcho-primitivists, and they believe that the “ways of the old” lead to the destruction of humanity, which is in part true.
They follow no religion, instead pondering over their creator and purpose and only use basic tools to hunt and gather. Their way of life is under threat, though as the Church of the Rockies is moving in to convert them and a powerful civilization is located just to the South.
The Lords of California
Two hundred years ago, the many, many warring tribes and nations of California have halted their war and began to form a centralized government. This was known as the Californian Grand Assembly, and it is headquartered in the largest city and most powerful political entity, the March of Los Angeles.
Every month, delegates from all over the empire gather under the mountain of Hollywood to discuss matters about preserving the stability of the country and propagating it's expansion. However, there are high tensions within the empire, and states often war against one another for control over resources, people, land or to settle family feuds and disputes. These disputed are usually taken very lightly, and the Assembly does not have it's own army to enforce peace so more bloodshed occurs. Many of the states are put into complex webs of alliances so there is a possibility of a massive war breaking out.
Some of the most powerful states include:
The two main alliances in California are the Californian Prosperity Council (CPC) based in the city of Anaheim, Los Angeles and the Phoenix-San Francisco Association (PSFA) with rotating capitals in Phoenix and San Francisco, although they are lead by San Diego. The two countries have forced California into a tight cold war, with the possibility of it erupting at any given moment.
California has a total of three languages spoken: North Californian, Californian and Sonoran. North Californian is spoken in the North and the bay area, down to the city state of Santa Barbara. It is very similar to Western English. Californian is a mix of English and Spanish, and it is spoken in Los Angeles, San Diego, the Arizonan Countries and many others. Sonoran is a dialect of Spanish spoken in Baja California and Sonora. It is slowly merging into the Californian language.
Religion does not play a big part in California, although they follow a religion somewhat similar to Buddhism, where no god is worshiped and people emphasize balance between the states and people. There is a caste system enforced in some of the smaller countries though.
So that was my coverage of an Alternate post apocalyptic North America. I hope you enjoyed this and I hope to continue to make these stories later on into the future.

2019.09.17 04:31 MakeTotalDestr0i Where’s the best place to live in light of collapse?

Ok we are 323 comments in on the collapse post and 98% didn’t bother to make even a slightly thoughtful answer. So... i guess i will be the change i want to see in the world
First off, If you are the fatalistic nihlistic type you can just go where you think it will be nice to die, maybe that is with friends and family, maybe it is on a beach in mexico, or feeding your body to the last polar bear. For everyone else that still has the instinct and drive for self-preservation….
What are the best places to be leading up to or during collapse?

First let's question the question.

What difference does it make to know "What are the best places to be leading up to or during collapse"?
The answer is dependent upon your own personal situation. Your personal situation has limiting factors.
Your personal Limiting Factors constrain you usually somewhere between those extremes, everyone has different options.
If we assume you are asking the question "What are the best places to be leading up to or during collapse" because you want to have the best standard of living available for as long as possible or simply survive the incoming population bottleneck, then the practical question becomes ...
"What are the best places to be, leading up to or during collapse, that i can get to, and establish myself in such a way that I can maintain the best standard of living possible for as long as I can or simply increase my probability of surviving the incoming population bottleneck."
It is important to ask this question to constrain the search space to the possible. It makes fuck-all difference if a somali goat herder knows about the ToP SeCret ElitE mULtibiLLioNaIre New ZEaLand sOUth IsLaNd ReDoUbt BuNkeR CoMmUnITy It is not going to help him and should not be in the search space as a survival strategy.
TL:DR Constrain your search space to what is realistically achievable for you.
  1. Start with your baseline probability of survival and increase it.
  2. Don't let a search for "best place" stop you from achieving "good enough place" or "better than where i was previously place".
  3. You are just trying to be an early adopter of increasing your survival probability stats before the non collapse-pilled masses.
  4. Think of surviving bottlenecks like surviving a charging bear attack, you don't need to be able to outrun the bear, you only need to be able to outrun the slowest people in the group up to the point the bear's appetite is satiated.
  5. Remember working with others can leverage group synergies and massively increase the realistic capabilities, but this requires you establish social cohesion with sane cooperative people that have a similar goal orientation. /greencommunes
.............................................................................................................
What are the best places to be, leading up to or during collapse, that i can get to, and establish myself in such a way that I can maintain the best standard of living possible for as long as I can or simply increase my probability of surviving the incoming population bottleneck."

Ok now lets question the new question some more...

In order to answer this we need to untangle some of the subjective and objective elements.
The objective elements of human survival are well known.
Optimizing location is a series of subjective trade-offs. There is no perfect place, they all have advantages and disadvantages.
So you must decide your personal preference of which goods and bads you most desire and what your scenario expectations are of the future.
Your personal preferences and collapse expectations mean the “best area” is specific to you.
What you can achieve and what do you desire, find the overlap between the two, then do research to find the place that gives you the most goods with the least bads and increases your probability of survival and standard of living.
One of the best strategies is to adapt yourself to your local circumstances to take advantage of the advantages, and plan ahead to mitigate the disadvantages, it is really all most people can do for themselves.
Do you like not living in unbearable heat, maybe moving to greenland is NOT a better option than just buying 400watts of solar panels and attaching it to a small efficient AC that keeps one room of your house cool even during summer electricity blackouts. Most problems have multiple solutions, it is worth it to take time and think about things from an economic perspective and different time horizon perspectives.
Increasing your optionality is better than narrowing it when it comes to survival, rather than the binary thinking, of “go way out into the northern mountains, farm and live in a bunker” versus “be a full time yuppie and ignore collapse issues”. Getting 2 acres you can put a cheap used rv camper on and go do permaculture on during weekends, near enough your place of employment/where you live, is probably a better plan. Indeed the small dacha’s and country gardens helped many people survive the collapse of the USSR. They would spend weekends and haul potatoes/veggies back to the city with them on the bus. Hedge your bets to cover the most scenarios including the most likely scenarios like losing your job or getting in a car accident. Survival and thriving always has and always will involve dynamic adaptation.
Here is a very short list of some of potential trade-offs that you may need to think about and some brief descriptions of how they can affect things. This is NOT meant to be a systematic or exhaustive analysis, this is just me stream-of-conscious flowing on strong coffee to help others start thinking about it for themselves. There are unlimited variables
Most of these maps are of the USA. If you have other maps please post them in the comments and i will edit this post to squeeze them in. From these maps and a little critical thinking you can figure out where is best for YOU. If you need to figure something out go to google images and search for maps it is easier than ever to find what you need. But remember the map is not the territory, there are great spots maps don't have the resolution to show. These are just some random things i pulled up real quick. mapporn is a good source

This is the original version of Duncan Discussion's "Masterlist of Prank Call Victims" which was a complete listing of victim soundboard prank calls. I can't access the current list but I'll be updating it as I go. I've also been using the masterlist to create an up to date list for existing victim soundboards. The links are supposed to display the most recent calls made on YouTube.
Many victim soundboards (and the original calls) no longer exist, are privately held by a few select pranksters, or were never created.
Edit: I reached the character limit while updating the list so I had to split this up into two parts
  1. [Celebrity Soundboard-era (2000-2007) & Duncan-era (2007-2011)]()
  2. Bail Bondsman-era (2011-2015) & California crook-era (2016-)

2019.08.19 02:11 bichpoomom Next place to live: IC or Davenport/QC Area?

Hi all! About 8 months ago, I moved to Iowa from northwest Arkansas for a new job as a food scientist and was trying to decide where I wanted to live (Muscatine or QC area). I ended up moving to Muscatine since it was the dead of winter, and I wanted to keep my commute short. I figured if Muscatine didn't work out, then I'd look into moving to other places. Well, time flies, and my lease is up at the end of November! I have decided that Muscatine just isn't for me, especially when it comes to finding people similar in age to hang out with. I've met people at work, but most of them are older and are married/have kids. It has been difficult to meet people as a young (28 y/o) single female and there aren't as many things to do in town as I initially thought.
Where would you suggest for my next move? Iowa City or Davenport/QC area? A little about me: I enjoy the outdoors, going on hikes with my pup, thrift shopping, throwing pottery, dabbling in art, doing yoga and staying active (whether it's playing volleyball or going to the gym). Love checking out local events, festivals, coffee shops, strolling through downtown and hitting up farmer's markets from time to time. My ideal situation is to live in a big-ish city like Chicago where there are always options on things to do and owning a car isn't a necessity. I'm originally from Hong Kong and loved having access to food/shopping/events just below me. I realize I won't find that exact lifestyle out here, but I'm trying to get as close as I can!
Right now, I'm leaning more towards IC because there seems to be more young professionals who live there, in addition to livelier nightlife and more events happening than in the QC area. I prefer to live downtown in a studio or 1 bd apartment because I don't want to rely on my car if I don't have to, but I've heard that living in downtown IC can be pretty noisy. I did go to school in a college town in NWA so I'm pretty used to younger students, but that was also several years ago and I'm only getting older ;). I think would be cheaper to live in Davenport, but I wonder if there would be as many things to do? Lastly, what is the dating scene like in the IC or QC area? Would appreciate any insight or suggestions that you all might have! Thanks in advance!!
